*Beak opens slightly but in a phony way. A fake smile. No one could believe this! Tension in the air. Feathers tight. Breathe she thinks* Hi, how intresting to see you all here. I was just wondering how everyone is doing and how you people uh come up with names. It seems to me I have unknowingly stolen identities without knowing. I want an origanal name so how do I come up with one. *Gah, like anyone would read this she thinks*

*murrs softly* Just... string syllables together? Etherrawen is made of elvish syllables that I strung together until they sounded 'right' to me. Try different culture's gods and goddesses... combine their names, and perhaps look at unusual names in general?

Try to be a little more confident in you're posts, we all make mistakes as newbies (I noticed the similarities in youre name) But give youreself a little credit....

Ok, names. I make up names for most of the things I draw.

Take a few random words like carpet and anger ... mix them around together and you can get Carger or Petang ... those are rubbish- but work on them.... turn carger into cargorus... petang into pet'ourious.... those are rubbish too- but work it around.... it's easy. Its how I got names like Tae'osha, and Artunonos.

And if all else fails- take a name from a fantasy book.

I tend to check other languages. For instance, noir is french for black, so that's more a physical desc. Leiko, which i go by, means arrogant in japanese...i am so it fits.
Also looking through myths and such can give you interesting name ideas. I happen to be compiling a list of names and waht god/goddes/person they refere to. I also have a list of japanese female names which are quite interesting. If you'd like to see my little lists just contact me...post here or something.
It's probably more personal if you develope your own name, though. A self-choosen name reflects who you are.

I guess it can be comapred to all those "were-names"
when people combine everyday ordinary things like "white and wolf" "black and skies" colors and objects sometimes dont mix yanno? its just well. "too common"
my name, my "were" name was given to my by the Lady Freya. goddess of fertillity and ruler of the light elfs in norse mythology.
I belive the others sumed it up wonderfully and pray that their point come across.

No need to be huffy.. in your Nook thread you stated you'd been here before. Anyone who's visited has probably heard of our resident colorgryph Acyd...
As for names, mine isn't original, for the most part.. Aside from being a japanese word (I've been told it means "heart", but I thought it was the word for the back edge of a blade), I found it in a video games also.
Just try to base a name off something your'e intrested in perhaps...

Naming is fun.

Like Noir said, a fun way to come up with a name is just take a word that relates to you in a different language. Piscis is Latin for "fish" (not to be confused with pisces, which actually means "fish"). Sorry, Latin joke. If you're keen on acid, then you could use Acris or Acerba, both Latin adjectives signifying the various properties of acid. Just a thought.

You can just pick an English word that describes you for a name. Either leave it the way it is, or add a short ending to it to make it a little different.

As Etherrawen said, you can just plain make it up by putting sounds and syllables you like together (all names were originally developed this way, after all).

You can name yourself after someone or something you admire or are fond of.

Name yourself after an animal.

Pick a word and spell it very oddly.

Choose a number and spell it out.

Now, I'm going to start naming off Phantasy Star women because I love those games so much.

Alis (Alisa), Mina, Nei, Anna (Amia), Amy, Shir (Shilka), Maia, Thea, Lena, Laia, Mieu, Miun, Alys, Demi, Kyra... *runs out* I think that's the most of them...

So many fun of.
