Logfile from Groo. -- Caern Fall Log 1 -- Mitch, Leonard, at the Bluff
Tuesday Late Night, May 7th 2002

Two Eagles Bluff(#3332RJ) To the northeast, the foothills climb upwards into the steep, snow-capped crags and mountains. Here, the tall summer grasses bend in sporadic waves as the wind dances on the bluff. The evergreens and aspens give way to an open field that lends itself to a panoramic and picturesque view to the south and east. A small stream wends its way unobtrusively through the eastern edge of the mountain's crags, the scent and sound of trickling water clear on the hesitant but almost incessant breeze. Wildflowers litter the green of the grass, coloring them with touches of violet and bright oranges, yellows and blues. Tucked in along the sloped wall of the forested foothills to the northeast is a well-worn section of ground.

Taking no chances, Yi has taken a very long way around when it comes to going to the bluff now. She doesn't even summon up a howl of greeting, instead picking her way through bits of the river, not caring if the old shoes she's donned get soaked. "Leo? Duane? Anyone?"

Finds-the-Foe is currently crouched in the underbrush, ever vigilant to those coming and going, especially those coming. Slowly, his shape grows larger in the darkness and he shifts his weight to his hind legs.

Finds-the-Foe contorts and blurs as he is transformed. Finds-the-Foe ripples and changes, slipping into Hispo form.

Little Bear wears the crinos form, using his spirit skills to hide amidst the underbrush as he watches Yi approach. Eyes narrowed, he grips his spear and rises, watching her for a long moment before looking at Mitch for some kind of confirmation.

The clearing itself seems deserted, the ashes of the fire cold and grey.

Yi fears the worst, but so far nothing's attacked. Yet. Nevertheless she remains on edge, running a hand through her hair. A stream of Cantonese curses release out into the chilled air, and the girl moves towards the firepit to feel the ashes briefly. Cold. The Gnawer glances around, looking for signs of struggle.

No signs of struggle, indeed no signs that anyone has been here recently at all. There are no tracks that you can make out, almost as if they'd been deliberately obliterated.

From afar, Finds-the-Foe assumes you are clean of taint yes? Long distance to Finds-the-Foe: Yi is very clean. Well, assuming you aren't sniffing the city's natural tainty residue.

Yi stands up again, a knife slipping into her hand as easy as a Wendigo could take an arrow out of a quiver. She waits, silent, concentrating.

Pack> Yi grasps out for Salmon first, before asking the totem to contact a certain missing Little Bear packmate.

Finds-the-Foe sniffs at the air tentatively and indeed seems to lean forward towards Yi experimentally. After some time, and no doubt going over her scent many times, Mitch creeps out silently from his cover and slinks forward out into the open. He chuffs a single word. Yi.

Little Bear melts from the foilage at Mitch's reaction, lowering his spear. He stops and stares at her for a long moment. ~ Three Blades. You're alive. ~

Yi whirls in surprise, knife at the ready and snarl impending against the two. Or at least, until she hears her name twice, and sees the familiar faces. Unfortunately she has no way of knowing if they are in the clear yet. "I am. And you two are doing ok? Nothing nasty come out yet?"

Little Bear moves forward and, unexpectedly, embraces his packmate. Without leaving crinos. Hello, face full of fur. He lets go after a long moment and heads for the cave. ~ Nothing's come here. Or to the Lake. I've moved the buffalo deep into the woods. Still looking for the kin, not leaving til we have her. They've ignored this place so far. Don't know how long that will last. ~

You paged Tskilegwa with 'Are there any packs having trouble with their packlinks? Specifically, Salmon's Leap?'.
Tskilegwa pages: Coding wise or ICly?
You paged Tskilegwa with 'ICly.'.
Tskilegwa pages: None that I'm aware of.
Long distance to Tskilegwa: Yi oks, just checking. :)

Finds-the-Foe doesn't say much for nothing much needs be said. Rather he shifts into crinos form and hops up onto a rock. Crouching and hunching, he makes like simply another extension of rock even while his eyes and ears keep vigilant.

Yi returns the hug as best she can, taking care not to prick her packmate with the knife in hand. "Thank the spirits. Is there anything from Sepdet?" She glances once towards Mitch, almost at once glad he's there.

Little Bear emerges from the cave, scrabbling to watch his head in this large form. He slings an overlarge bow over one shoulder, holding his hands a quiver of arrows. ~ She sent word by owl. She has the pathstone safe with her someplace secret. She needs news and said to warn away the kin. Silverscale says that there's something wrong with her. She can't mindspeak. ~

Yi breathes a sigh of partial relief, knowing her pack alpha is safe in a sense, and worrying that she isn't. "Should we move things from the cave to somewhere else? How much have you heard?" The question goes to both Garou, the Gnawer feeling kind of silly just standing there with a knife. She slips it away.

Little Bear shakes his head. ~ Nothing but what we've seen. Strange evil forms in the woods, spirits fleeing, the caern... Can't get close. Even the bawn is overrun. What happened? ~

Yi shakes her head, unable to fill in the details herself. "I only just heard, and came here as soon as I did. Cubs are being herded to the safehouse of the Walkers, and ... " Slumping downwards, the Gnawer sits heavily in the grass. "And yes, the last thing I want to say is that .. Dancers have the Hidden Walk."

Perhaps Mitwitchuck saw something, or perhaps it was merely Little Bear describing the last few days. In any event, his fur bristles and he growls low. Tilting his head sidelong. he shifts his head to pan the horizon without changing his silhouette.

Little Bear shakes his head, eyes glowing red in the setting sun's light. ~ So it comes to this. The others hide in the Scab, I suppose. ~ He moves to the edge of the bluff, crouching as he looks down.

Yi coughs to let go of the rising sick feeling in her throat. The need to howl frustrations. "They are moving to the safehouse on Regan, but I think there are still some safe places left that the others have gone to. No sept is foolish enough not to have more than one hole to run into right?" She looks up at Mitch, then to Little Bear. "It isn't wise to stay here, but I would not say to leave it for them to find either. If you need anything from the city..." She leaves off the offer, virtually a blank check.

Little Bear nods. He moves back towards the fire circle, careful to keep from being silouetted against the sky. ~ If we think of anything, we will let you know. Thank you for the offer. Has anyone been lost? ~

Finds-the-Foe shifts ever so imperceptibly and regards Yi thoughtfully for a moment. He doesn't smile a thanks, nor does he ask for anything. Most likely he's trying to think what in the blazes a city can offer him that he doesn't already have right here. But he's on lookout and the stare doesn't linger.

Yi shakes her head again, but this doesn't seem like a 'no we haven't' thing. "I haven't heard yet. I wanted to check on the bluff and the lake, and you guys before I went back." Her head almost hangs. "I'm not sure what's happened over there, or if the farmhouse's cubs are safe." She looks over the two, but more or less scans the forest line down below as well.

Little Bear lifts his nose to test the air as a current comes up the bluff from the forest below. What he smells doesn't make him any happier. ~ We'll need scouts. And a place to work from. Here is as good as anywhere. I'm sick of Wyrmbringers and Wyrmcomers taking our land. I won't leave this place unless I am forced to. But that is no reason to be careless. How did you come here? ~ He studies Yi, glancing at her soaked jeans.

Finds-the-Foe snorts at Little Bear's words. Maybe he disagrees with him on some point? Either way, his ear twitches at a gnats inquisitiveness but that marks the most of his motion.

"A little bit by foot. A little bit by paw. A little bit by flying," Yi manages to joke, despite the status of the situation. "Movies always have fugitives running through rivers to lose their scent."

Little Bear chuffs a snort. ~ Well, its not a bad plan. Still, retrace your steps and I'll follow you out and get rid of your tracks. Have you heard from Flamecaller? Or Touch-Deer? ~

Yi rubs the back of her neck, blowing out another sigh. "No. I haven't heard from anyone except Anneka and Elan. And now you two."

Little Bear nods. ~ Good to hear she's safe. Him too. We need to do something. See what's going on down there. ~ He nods in the direction of the caern.

Finds-the-Foe takes a deep breath but makes a point of expanding his stomach and not his chest, lest his shoulders raise and give him away as more than a patch of darkness. He growls a low agreement to Little Bear.

Yi nods as well, in agreement. "I'll find out how others are doing, and then gather some scouts to see what is going on there. The moon is thin."

Little Bear nods. ~ Alright. I'll follow you out. Make sure you're not tracked. ~

Yi gets up, shifting down to a more suitable form of travel (and clothing saver) before heading with a sniff the way she came. Most of the way is by the river bank or through the river itself, hence her previously soaked clothing. Once they're more near the city, she takes to following a highway back into the outer limits, and makes sure Little Bear is well on his way back before howling a quick thanks and disappearing into the city.
