Runs-at-Dawn draws back as Song-of-Fury attempts to retreat, but he doesn't release the grip his jaws hold -- he's attempting to take a good portion of the Galliard's shoulder as he goes. His free hand slashes at the belly of his foe as he uses it to help him push backward.
From afar, to the room, Song-of-Fury laughs. "Since when is getting into a better range retreating?"
Both crinos forms rip into each other's midsections as they struggle back and forth; the Fianna tries to rip as much of the Shadow Lord's shoulder as he can as the two both go back from each other, both falling onto their backs as the two separate.
Alicia slips her hand into Tec's, gripping hard as she watches, sniffling, not even able to tell the two apart, never seeing their war forms before.
Tecmessa squeezes Alicia's hand gently, while maneuvering slightly around -- she's still hugging her, but she's also poised to move at a moment's notice.
As the pair fall back, Runs-at-Dawn lies there, even as an angry growl escapes the throat of Song-of-Fury, who struggles to support himself on uninjured arm.
Song-of-Fury pages to the room: umm... who posed that?
Alicia pages to the room: The ghost of chrismas past :)
Nemo pages to the room: I did.
You paged the room with 'Or, the Nemo of Challenge Present. ;)'.
From afar, to the room, Alicia laughs and squeezes Mulan.
Song-of-Fury struggles to maintain his footing, scrabbling forward as best he can with a roar toward a gnashing bite the Theurge's throat. His claws rake in a desperate effort to gouge his opponent's exposed flesh.
Alicia lets go of Tecmessa, sensing her urgency, her own body trembling.
Runs-at-Dawn isn't moving, either to get up or to dodge. If anything, he seems to be shifting down, passing through glabro on his way to his birthform.
And it would seem Tec's wariness was well warranted, as she's narrowing her eyes at Luke's form, and then taking several steps forward, as she shifts up into glabro. ~He's submitted, Song of Fury!~ She seems entirely willing to make the point physically, if necessary.
Song-of-Fury stops, a hair's breadth from the Fianna's throat, his snarl barely held in tow. But he goes no further.
Alicia understanding of Tecmessa's words, she watches the woman shift up to another form. Following her lead, she shifts as well, ready to help bring this to an end.
Tecmessa relaxes just a touch as Jarred stops. Glancing back at Alicia, she says, "Do not worry. He will not go further." Looking back to Jarred, she asks, "Yes?"
Alicia looks tense, her fists balling up. She moves around them, then kneels next to Luke. Craddling his head in her lap, she strokes his face, eyes wide at the sight of blood. "Oh god.. Oh god.. he's not ganna die is he?"
Song-of-Fury collapses close to the Fianna, his breathing labored. He pulls himselft a short distance away, until his strength gives out completely. A plume of dust from the floor rises as he lets out a loud, rasping breath.
Song-of-Fury contorts and blurs as he is transformed. Song-of-Fury shifts into Glabro form.
Brian enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Brian has arrived.
Duncan steps forward, tossing the can to the side. "My turn," he says, rolling up his sleeves. "Can anyone else heal?" he asks curiously.
Alicia bites her lip, shaking her head no as she stares down at Luke's body, shuddering. "No.. Not yet.." She says to Duncan.
Brian steps into the barn quietly, inobtrusively, perhaps drawn by the sounds of talking. He lets the door shut behind him, only momentarily permitting the full moon's light to spill into the cavernous interior of the place.
Tecmessa shakes her head, silently, as she crouches down next to Alicia, resting a hand on her back.
Luke is breathing, but doesn't look to be moving, aside from that. He's on his back, and there's a fair amount of blood on the floor around him. Probably his, to look at him.
Duncan squints some, trying to decide which one needs it more. He finally grunts, and just goes over to Luke. "Well, don't just stand there. Either damn well help me or go make yourself useful by finding someone that -can- heal." It's actually suprising, a grumbling order from the little meek Fianna kid. "Ah shit, kid," he grumbles, then goes about the laborous process of trying to heal up Luke.
Alicia bites her lip hard, flinching as she feel's Tec's hand on her. Turning her head, she stares back at the Fury, tears falling down her face. "He's...breathing.." She softly says to the fury. "Barely."
Jarred is a short ways off, also on the ground, on his stomach. He seems conscious, but disoriented at the moment,
Alicia nods and hops to her feet. Glancing to Duncan, she backpeddles to the door. Stepping around Brian, she ducks her head and leaves the barn to find someone.
Alicia leaves the barn through one of the doors. Alicia has left.
Tecmessa tells Alicia, "He'll be fine. We heal fast. And the Gift heals even faster." She rises from her crouch to check Jarred over -- although she doesn't seem particularly expert at first aid assessment.
Once the scent of blood reaches him, Brian's expression sours. His eyes go first to Luke, then to Jarred, then back again. "Duncan," he demands, quietly. "Why the hell is Luke lying on the floor, bleeding out his asshole?"
Yi creaks open the door to the barn, having heard voices and not found anyone in the farmhouse.
Jarred turns his head slowly, trying to focus his eyes on the fallen Theurge who fought like a bloody lion.
Duncan squints, concentrating despite Brian's entrance and question. He chews on his lip a few moments, letting his gift do the work, healing up a bit on Luke before he finally lets out a heavy breath, shaking his head to get rid of the fog. -Then- he answers Brian. "IT...was a challenge. He lost."
Joseph enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Joseph has arrived.
Alicia enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Alicia has arrived.
Brian's lips purse into a frown, his gaze once again wandering over towards Jarred. Of Duncan again, he asks, "What was it over?"
Squall enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Squall has arrived.
Yi takes quick steps over to Jarred's side, dark eyes gazing over his wounds before looking up to see Joseph and Alicia come in. Seeing as she can't be much help, she melts back into the shadows of the walls to be out of the way.
Alicia heads back into the barn, following behind the Wendigo elder. She glances over to Brian and takes a deep breath.
Squall runs in, breathing only slightly heavily.
Luke moans faintly at Duncan's touch, his eyes fluttering open as the healing does its work. He tries to sit up, but the first attempt doesn't go all that well. The second is somewhat more successful, his weight propped on his uninjured right arm since the left still isn't going to support him.
Duncan lets out a heavy breath. He peers over as the newcomers enter, but he pays them little mind. Instead, Duncan answers Brian, "I don't honestly know. I came in about when they started fighting."
Tecmessa adds, done surveying Jarred, "As did I."
Alicia bites her lip and steps forward, circling towards Luke and Jarred. Wringing her hands together, she says softly. "Ah'was there fo'all of it." Her voice is barely a whisper. "Ah'know what happened." In lieu of anyone with the touch, Tecmessa strips her outer shirt off (there's one underneath) and starts trying to do proper first aid. She's not horrible at it, at least.
Yi shrugs in a 'Don't-look-at-me' manner, but moves towards Alicia's side. Her gaze falls over both the fallen fighters, slightly narrowing in a wince at the wounds they gave each other.
Squall grimaces at the inflicted wounds, staying close to Joseph's side, though he glances around at the unfamiliar faces.
Brian lets his gaze move over to Alicia, and settle there. "What were they fighting over?" he asks, very quietly, though it's clear that his volume isn't a particularly accurate indicator of his overall mood.
Alicia turns around to face the Sept leader, feeling like a cat in a roomfull of rocking chairs. Wringing her hands together, she fails to meet his gaze, purpoesly so. "It is a long story sir, please be patient while I tell it from the beginning." She takes a deep breath, then begins her tale.
Duncan sighs, standing up on shakey legs, the healing taken a lot out of him. He peers at Luke, asking, "You going to live now?" He pauses, then looks to Jarred, "And you, you going to survive?" He's not going to try that again unless he has to it seems.
"I didn't ask for a long story," says Brian, a bit of irritation slipping into his tone. "I asked for an answer. Why were they fighting?"
Luke nods faintly, still a bit disoriented from his unconciousness and subsequent reawakening. His gaze goes first to Jarred, though it doesn't linger, then, to Brian and the cub he's speaking to.
Alicia takes another deep breath. "Because Jarred was upset that the Fianna of this Sept have been insulting him. From what ah'over heard. He's angry, he feels unappreciated. Luke ah'guess struck ah'nerve wi'him and that was it. He challenged Luke. They came out here an threw down." Her voice drifts away as she keeps her eyes upon her feet.
Jarred doesn't respond to Duncan, looking instead back at Brian, Alicia and the others.
The Fury, crouched down by Jarred, adds, "Wasn't here for the beginning, but the ending was honorable enough."
Yi is back at Jarred's side, helping him at least sit up if he can. Her gaze though, is set upon Alicia and Brian. She keeps her tongue in check this time around.
Alicia has no clue who Brian is, or that he's the Sept leader, or even a Fianna, her voice was neutral as she spoke.
Duncan eyes Jarred a moment, scowls then moves to him. He generally pushs anyone crowding around him out of the way, fending them off with a 'Back. Back.' He stares at Jarred and sighs, "Stay still," and, despite having done it once, he tries to heal Jarred. Fair's fair afterall.
Max enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Max has arrived.
Duane enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Duane has arrived.
Kaz enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Kaz has arrived.
Persephone enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Persephone has arrived.
Brian gives a soft snort; it's not entirely clear whether he's shooting the messenger, or simply dismissive of the message. Nonetheless, he turns away from Alicia, back towards the tableau. Another soft snort, and a shake of his head. "No more healing. Of either of them."
Tecmessa backs slightly away from Jarred as Duncan takes over, looking at Brian with interest.
Piotr enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Piotr has arrived.
Alicia lets her shoulders slump and steps away from them. She makes her way to Tecmessa instinctivly.
Persephone sniffs at the air, noting the strong tang of iron in the air, then tilts her head curiously towards Brian. She does not immeiately question or agree, though, merely watching curiously.
Kaz sticks firmy to the edges of the barn, once she's shouldered her way inside. She looks vaguely uncomfortable.
Yi is shooed away, but it doesn't keep her from hovering just out of range and eyeing the deep wound on Jarred's shoulder. A soft sigh just barely escapes her, her gaze quietly aimed at the sept alpha though not without a little protest in her eyes about no more healing.
Tecmessa reaches out a hand to rest it on Alicia's shoulder.
Alicia leans into the Fury Elder, one arm wrapping around her waist as she sighs heavily, closing her eyes.
Duane hangs back, near Kaz, watching with his inscrutably dark eyes -- taking everything, but not becoming part of the action. Shoulder hard against the side of the barn, arms folded, he shares some of the Gnawer's unease.
Layne enters the ground level of the barn through one of the doors. Layne has arrived.
Joseph lifts his chin in response to Brian's proclamation, and with a soft noise of approval, he turns to leave the crowded brown. Making his way past the others, he heads out.
Joseph leaves the barn through one of the doors. Joseph has left.
Piotr creeps into the barn. Not that he's a healer, but at least he can help if more hands are needed.
Brian runs a hand back through his hair, moistening his lips with a flick of his tongue. "Dick-waving on the full moon is stupid. Dick-waving on the full moon, in this barn, is even more stupid. Stupidity oughtn't be rewarded by a fast recuperation. Maybe the injuries will remind the two of them to be a little slower to turn to claws and teeth, next time they disagree."
Kaz only stays briefly. Her discomfort wins out over curiousity and she's soon out the door again.
Kaz leaves the barn through one of the doors. Kaz has left.
Squall leaves the barn through one of the doors. Squall has left.
Max moves through the doors into the barn and, unlike the pair she was with, moves forward almost into the space of those involved, looking from one to the other with glittering dark eyes. She then turns her attention to Brian, listening to what he says with a thoughtful expression, shoving her hands into her pockets.
Duane nods slowly, smirking a bit at Brian's explanation, then he too disappears without fanfare.
Duane leaves the barn through one of the doors. Duane has left.
Jarred just watches Brian with a dark expression, turning his head away at length so that the Alpha cannot see the look of disgust that passes over his features. He winces a bit as Duncan's healing flows into him, but does not otherwise respond.
Duncan concentrates, not listening to the conversation. It takes him just a bit, but the worst nastiness of Jarred's injuries fade. Right after that, Duncan half collapses backwards. He breaths hard for a moment and shakes his head. "That's it, I think I'm tapped out."
Persephone chuffs in agreement, almost amused agreement, with the Fianna elder. Let the foolish learn from their injuries.
Brian strides forward, to catch Duncan by the collar, lest the theurge collapse. Oblivious to Jarred's sneer, he says to his packmate, "You wasted more effort than I would've."
Jarred croaks out, "What a surprise."
It's mere curiosity that draws Layne to the barn. She'd noticed the rather large crowd moving about through the barnyard, and so wanders in--quiet and catlike--to inspect.
When Brian moves to catch Duncan, Max moves over to Luke and crouches down beside him. She taps his temple, her voice quiet. "Foolish," she echoes. Then she winks at him and pushes back to her feet. She turns and realizes those she arrived with have nearly all left. She, too, heads for the exit.
Tecmessa glares at Jarred from her crouch nearby. "Ah, so you wish to cause more pain to yourself tonight, be it emotional or physical?"
Yi squats by Jarred, not missing that look of disgust on the Shadow Lord's features before glancing back at the alpha. "You won't hear why Jarred feels unappreciated? Maybe it is just a tribal matter, and not my place to say... but the roots seem to tap into a deeper well of anger." Of course, Yi has no idea who she's talking to, when she says this to Brian.
Duncan groans quietly as Brian keeps him on his feet. "Perhaps," he says with a chuckle, "I've always been a bit of a soft-heart, though." He sighs, "Besides, I don't know if Luke'd have made it and the other would probably have been worthless to us if I had stood by. Like it or not, we could use every extra set of hands we can get."
Piotr leaves the barn through one of the doors. Piotr has left.
Alicia kicks her foot against a support beam idly, remaining silent. Heaving in a deep breath, she casts her gaze away from the group and wounded. Already she wasted her breath once today, she won't do it again.
Luke just peers at Max, scowling. Who is _she_ to be reprimanding him? Any other time, he'd likely say something, but tonight, he keeps silent. Not up for much in the way of talking.
Brian's eyes snap over to Jarred, a hint of irritation springing into his eyes despite his effort to keep his expression neutral. To the injured Shadow Lord he says, quietly, "Perhaps the pain of your injuries has made you speak without thinking. Someone should help you to the farmhouse, to a bed. Duncan? Will you assist Jarred to the infirmary?"
Max leaves the barn through one of the doors. Max has left.
Yi takes a step back, still squatting. A deep breath, a slow sigh, and she shakes her head in the slightest of motions before standing up and moving into the shadows once more.
Jarred doesn't look at the Alpha again. Turning and pushing himself up into a very shaky standing position, the Shadow Lord sets off slowly for the barn door. "Duncan?" Brian repeats, a bit more insistently, as Jarred begins to haul himself towards the exit.
Duncan shrugs slightly. "Well, I can give it a shot," he says. He wanders over, offering help to Jarred wether he wants it or not. "Let's go, bub," he says, opening the door for the injured Shadow Lord.
Tecmessa looks about to offer help, but Duncan beats her to it. She subsides, and begins balling the remains of her overshirt up.
Layne takes an unassuming position near a beam, but one that guarantees a clear line-of-sight to Brian and the rest. She mutters something under her breath, head tipped toward the gathered.
Alicia watches the two leave, then sighs heavily. Stubbing her toe into the ground, she mummers. "Ah wished they'd have listened ta'me, this wouldn't 'ave happened."
Luke closes his eyes, wincing as he gets to his feet. He's still a little woozy, and totters a bit, but doesn't seem in too much danger of falling down.
Brian frowns as Luke tries to rise, and glances over towards Layne. "Would you help him to a bed? One on the other side of the house from Jarred, preferably, so they're not at each other's throats the instant they're well?"
Yi slinks through the shadows to Alicia's side, leaning out to say softly, "It's not your fault, if you are feeling that way." She furrows a brow at the Alpha's comment, but keeps her own comments to herself.
Alicia sighs heavily and glances to Yi, absently rubbing her shoulder. Blowing a few whisps of dark hair from her face, she shrugs. "Sho'whatevah." Her eyes drift from her, to Tecmessa.
Tecmessa says, rather firmly, "It was not. It is often hard, in these full moons, to get those affected to listen to reason and not their blood."
Yi shrugs, backing away and heading towards the door. Nothing more to see, nothing more to do.
You pass through one of the doorways of the barn, out to the farm's barnyard.
Barnyard
The lane wends its way back and around the farmhouse to here, where it widens into a broad, grassy sward contained only by the woods which encircle it on three sides. Buildings break up the purity of the landscape: an open-sided structure which serves as a garage and the big barn, empty of livestock, to the east. A good-sized vegetable and herb garden furrows the land south of the barn, while a pyramid-like pile of rocks, of similar consistency to the gravel of the lane, rests a few yards south of the garage.
North of the buildings, the fields have long been fallow, hastening a conversion from farmland to natural prarier. A sliding glass door allows admittance to the farmhouse, the interior obscured by Levolor(tm) blinds in a wood-grain pattern. The lane leads out around the house to the southwest. The discerning can just barely pick out the beginnings of a faint path into the woods towards the southeast.

Jarred moves slowly across the barnyard toward the farmhouse, sparing glances for no one. He seems content to allow Duncan to bark orders for the time being.
Joseph's faint smile is perhaps invisable in the shadows thrown by the moonlight. "I have joined Hope Star."
Persephone walks out into the yard from the barn to the northeast. Persephone has arrived.
Kaz gives Jarred a definitely worried look. "Yo, Jarred. I grab you tomorrow?" And bark orders he does! Duncan grumbles a bit on occasion, "Hup-two, hup-two," leading him up to the door which he opens. "Lessgo," he says, "I need to sleep after that double healing. The sooner you get t' bed, the sooner I get to bed."
Yi steps out of barn, casting a glance at Jarred and Duncan before shaking her head again and turning her eyes towards the sky.
It takes a moment, but a matching grin slides across Duane's lean features. "Word, yo," he says, nodding, his eyes searching Joseph's shadowed face... perhaps for something new, with this news. "So, you and me and her's all I know about," he says quietly. "We gots anyone else?"
Persephone snorts once again to herself, then goes back towards the rest of the bawn and away from the trappings of the farmhouse.
Jarred slides the glass door at the rear of the farmhouse open, and walks inside. Jarred has left.
Duncan slides the glass door at the rear of the farmhouse open, and walks inside. Duncan has left.
Joseph answers. "Not yet. But we are working on it." His eyes slide to Squall, "If you have ideas, bring them to the island."
Persephone walks through the treeline and into the forest. Persephone has left.
Max folds her arms across her chest and abandons her dirt scuffing to flop her shoulderblades against the side of the barn. Her attention is on Joseph and Duane, though she flickers a glance to her mentor every now and again.
Yi blinks and brings her eyes back to level ground. "Squall, have you asked your elders yet... about, you know...?" She asks the Wendigo cub softly.
Squall watches Duane and Joseph's conversation out of the corner of his eye, but otherwise his attention seems focused on his feet, until Joseph speaks to him. "Ideas..?" His brow furrows, not entirely sure what the question implies.
Kaz looks thoughtfully after Jarred, then shakes her head slightly and looks back at Max, eyebrow raised.
Squall glances at Yi, brow still furrowed. Suddenly his eyes go wide. "Aww crap! I'm sorry, I knew I forgot something. I hadn't seen Joe till today, since ya asked. Um, want me to broach the topic, or do you want to get all formal and ask?" He glances from Yi to Joseph.
Duane nods, his own eyes following the line of Joseph's vision. "I see that one," he mutters, mostly to himself, and then louder, "Be sure to tell me you going out there next, OK? I want to drop some of my stuff off over there.
Joseph gestures to Duane, indicating the comment was for him, not Squall. though now that Squall's spoken up, he adds, "We could use a ragabash. We should get this cub rited."
Joseph answers Duane. "We go out every other day. Usually, if I am ot there, Sepdet is. Come any time. even Lightfeather spends time there."
Squall's eyebrows shoot up, and his jaw slackens a little. "Me? Um..well, hokay. No arguments. I think..." His brow furrows again, and he looks as if pigs have just started to fly.
Yi blinks and shrugs slightly, looking from Joseph to Duane and back to Squall. "I don't know your tribe's customs, for asking favors of teachers."
Tecmessa walks out into the yard from the barn to the northeast. Tecmessa has arrived.
Duane reiterates his thought, louder, for Joseph this time: "I hear you. He about ready for the big leagues." His eyes are hard on Squall, measuring the cub.
Tecmessa drifts out of the barn, nods generally to the group outside, and heads for the Farmhouse.
Tecmessa slides the glass door at the rear of the farmhouse open, and walks inside. Tecmessa has left.
Still slouched back against the barn wall, Max holds Kaz's look for a moment. "Yeah. Superfreak onna stick. I jus' ain't gettin' off on no --" She breaks off as Brian and Tecmessa exit the barn, looking after them.
Squall gulps slightly, head nearly spinning as he glances from Duane, to Joseph, to Yi. Deciding to address one thing at a time, he nods his head slightly to Joseph. "Um, elder, can I ask you a favor? It's sort of a formal, tribal thing."
As Brian steps out of the barn, his eyes immediately go to Yi, and he exhales softly. He takes a step towards the young woman, and declares, "You wanted to know why I wasn't willing to hear Jarred's grievance."
Luke walks out into the yard from the barn to the northeast. Luke has arrived.
Joseph's gaze falls more directly on Squall again. He nods, indicating the cub should ask.
Layne walks out into the yard from the barn to the northeast. Layne has arrived.
Yi catches the alpha's movement, turning her attention briefly away from the Wendigo cub and glancing up at Brian. She nods her head, silent but with her eyes questioning.
Kaz mutters, "I don' get off on that kinda shit neither," with a small grin, and then quiets herself, watching the interactions, heel occasionally thumping on the barn's wall.
Brian lets his shoulders lift and fall in a mild shrug. "I didn't ask because there's no need," he explains. "I already know what his grievance is. He's bothered by the fact that, because he's a Shadow Lord, my tribe doesn't like him, and doesn't make a secret of the fact." He keeps his Kerryman lilt pitched low, as if to avoid disturbing the relative quiet of the evening.
Luke emerges from the barn with Layne, her arm around him, though he seems to be supporting his own weight. Walking a little gingerly to avoid jostling his abdomen and left arm, but still under his own power.
Squall coughs, clearing his throat. Gesturing slightly to Yi with his open hand, he launches into his question head first. "Yi had spoken with me a week or so ago, and she requested wanting to learn from the Wendigo the ways of the woods, and forest. She knows about being a new-moon in the city, and in buildings. But she would like to learn from us how to be a new-moon in the forests. She asked me to present the request to you, for your opinion on the matter." He nods slightly, done...though with a slight glance down at his feet, he adds. "To be honest, I think it may be a worthy consideration, elder."
"It's not a secret," Yi replies, shrugging lightly as she turns her gaze from the alpha. "Even the Lords in Hong Kong know they aren't liked very much. But just because his tribe isn't exactly the highest held, doesn't mean that he should already be one step down on the ladder." She sighs quietly, very aware of the whole tribal pecking order as her own isn't exactly the highest in esteem. "He's a good guy, Jarred," she mumbles softly before glancing up at the Wendigo gathered.
Duane arches one eyebrow, drawing his attention back from the Alpha and directing it toward Squall, then Yi. She gets a healthy dose of his dark gaze, though his expression is, again, unreadable.
Joseph's eyes look up to catch Yi. They examine her caefully, darting to Brian and back again as he makes his appraisal.
Layne helps Luke back out into the yard, allowing her gaze to hover thickly through the small crowd. She seems disinterested--or at the very least, she feigns disinterest, climbing the steps to the back entrance.
Squall begins gnawing the hell out of his lower lip, his trademark for being either nervous, or deep in thought. He glances from Yi to Joseph, to Duane, wincing slightly in preparation for a negative answer.
Max pushes away from the barn wall and moves a foot or so closer to Kaz, leaning back to her casual slouch once she's there. She watches the painful progress of Layne and Luke as they cross the yard to the house.
Joseph seems to come to some conclusion, though before he speaks, he waits to see if and when Brian is done with what he has to say.
Kaz is mostly watching Squall now, a small, sympathetic smile creasing her eyes.
Luke's expression and interest might well be a mirror to Layne's as he passes through the barnyard and into the house.
Luke slides the glass door at the rear of the farmhouse open, and walks inside. Luke has left.
Layne slides the glass door at the rear of the farmhouse open, and walks inside. Layne has left.
Brian answers Yi's shrug with one of his own. "No one's said that he's one step down on the ladder, or that he's not a 'good guy'," he states. "The fact of the matter is that he comes from a line of Garou who lied to, cheated, stole from, and murdered more than their fair share of Fianna, and not one of us is going to go out of our way to play kissy-face with him because of it."
Kaz slides slightly closer to Max, unconsciously.
Max's dark gaze slides back to Brian, narrow-eyed in the moonlit darkness as she tries to take in expressions along with what she can overhear of the words spoken. She leans to the side toward Kaz and mutters something to her, never looking away from Brian and Yi.
Joseph's expression grows faintly dark at Brians words, though he certainly doesn't argue with the Fianna. His attention shifts back to Yi, and he waits for her to be done before speaking.
Yi nods, dipping her head a little to Brian. "I understand that. I just hope, that the actions of his ancestors and their kin will not be put on him as a burden for him to carry in the eyes of the other tribes."
Brian shrugs one more time, diffidently. "Some of the tribes seem to get along well with the Shadow Lords," he remarks. "Though I can't imagine why." He pulls his gaze away from Yi, to study the farmhouse for a moment, and the lights on the second floor.
"Maybe because at one time, the Garou were all one with Gaia and each other," Yi replies softly, eyes slipping to Joseph.
Duane finds himself nodding along with Brian's explanation, half in his own thoughts -- just aware enough to agree with the analysis of the Shadow Lords. After a moment, he comes back to awareness, and watches Yi and Squall.
Joseph speaks up, interrupting what he feels is a finished conversation. "You wished to speak about teaching," he says to Yi.
Kaz snorts softly at Max, which may be answer enough in and of itself. She regards Yi with a mixture of cynical amusement and wistfulness, but for once in her life, doesn't add her thoughts into the matter.
A tiny smile creeps across Brian's lips, the expression wry. He runs a hand back through his hair before sketching a small, polite bow to the assembly, and heading off across the fields to the southwest. "Good evening."
Probably, Brian can hear Kaz's farewell. "'Night, Kahuna-rhya."
Squall finally stops gnawing on his lip, deciding much more and he'll start bleeding, though he looks like he'd be willing to take up cigarettes on the spot just for something in its place. Glancing between Yi and Joseph, he awaits their conversation.
Brian walks through the treeline and into the forest. Brian has left.
Yi nods to the departing elder, then straightens and turns to the Wendigo elder. "A while ago, a Wendigo by the name of Leonard asked my tribe's elder, Elan Shadow Eyes, of exchanging teachings. I've never truly been in a forest of trees. After going to the Lake Arthur island to help Sepdet with a rite of summoning... I guess, I was rather drawn to learn more. I just ask, though, if I could learn to track, scout, hunt in the wild, I could use it in the city as well. Your people would know the ways of the Wyld. I am willing to learn, if you are willing to teach."
Duane looks doubtful -- his brows have drawn together and the beginning of a smirk hooks one corner of his mouth -- but he remains half a step behind Joseph, just watching Yi and Squall, silent.
Max casts a faint grin to her mentor, lightly slapping the back of her hand against Kaz's middle. She calls over to Yi, "Rock on, Calamari Queen."
Kaz seems to feel this slap her due, as she merely grins at the cub and watches Joseph, vague anticipation on her face.
Joseph looks at Kaz for a moment, and then back at Yi. Something in what she says--especially about Little Bear, makes the Wendigo's expression go grave again. His answer, though, is a nod. "The Wendigo will teach about the Wyld, but they ask in answer for city teaching. There are things I would know of the white man's world."
Kaz mutters, under her breath, "You sure about that, cap'n?" Ah, cynicism.
Duane can't help himself: he giggles. It slips out, quietly, almost held in check, but there it is. Wide eyes flash toward Joseph, and he asks, "/Straight/?"
Squall's face splits into a big grin, and he lets out a whoop of delight. He gently thwaps Joseph on his shoulder, though his eyes go wide a little at the potential screw up there.. He covers quickly, coughing and throwing out, "Hey yeah, just think, who better to teach ya 'bout the good and the bad of city life, Chief?"
Max stops, mid-nudge and stares at Joseph. "We /gotta/ do some village people." she deadpans quietly.
Yi smiles, nodding in thanks. "We all teach what we know. It's not just a world of white men, just a different world of people," she replies, giving the Gnawer galliard and cub a slight smirk. "I'll test the teachings first, and the rest of the Gnawers can jump in if they feel it is safe to go in the water."
"What, y'r expectin' me /not/ t'teach somethin'? You gotta be smokin' th' good stuff. I'll help, f'sure." Ok, so probably only Max and Duane understand a word she's saying. She seems blithely ignorant of that fact.
Max turns the idea over quietly. "'n Elan can be the motorcycle cop, 'n Nebraska can be the construction worker, n' the Timinator c'n be the other dude." She grins widely, then calls over to Yi, "Cannonball, chica."
Squall, after some mental deciphering, grins encouragingly at Kaz. "I get to teach the Gnawers how to hunt squirrel though." His stomach rumbles at the thought, and his eyes glaze over.
Joseph's eyes dart to Duane first, and his scowl is as fierce as it has been since the Wendigo known as Badgers returned instead of He Catches the soul. Next, the look gets thrown to Kaz, and then to Yi. The Wendigo eventually nods to all. "I intend to see these cities, myself."
Squall breaks into a bigger grin. Much more of this and a muscle is going to collapse. "Wait'll you see the glory of Burger King."
Duane nods now, the smirk solid but swimming with some good humor now. "A'ight, kola, no sweat. Just, you know, make sure you take a /friend/ with you, if you know what I'm saying. I don't want to see you... you know?"
Kaz is mildly taken aback by the fierceness of Joseph's glare; she can only muster a faint grin for the two Ragabash cubs.
Max grins. "I got shotgun on his quest for french fries."
Squall says "I get to take him to the theater though, for his first wicked action flick. Maybe something Jackie Chan, if it's playing."
Kaz says, slowly, "Not too, uh, abrupt, people?"
"The run itself is refreshing, really," Yi replies with a subdued chuckle at Squall's comment about Burger Nazi. "You don't think I drive all the way up here, do you?" A quiet grin with teeth. The grin widens at mention of the famous HK action star. "Who would be the teacher, on the Wendigo side?" A brief pause. "I don't think I've fully introduced myself, either..."
Joseph is not sure what the fuss is about, but the fierce glare remains, dampened only by slight perplexity. He agrees with Yi's last statement, indicating she should, and that he will reciprocate.
Max is leaning fully against Kaz now, though Joseph's expression abruptly shut her up, a refreshing change that shouldn't last long.
Squall tries hard to dampen his grin, at the sight of Joseph's glare, though it's still hard to manage.
Yi gives the elder a full respectful bow, trilling out in a soft Canto-British accent, "Song Yi Ling, Three-Blades to Gaia's children, cliath new moon of the Bone Gnawers from the Sept of Rat's Tail in Hong Kong." She slides back up and straightens, offering a smile.
Kaz's arm snakes rather automatically around Max's shoulders. She's watching Joseph in what is clear is fascination, even if intimidated fascination.
Joseph seems vaguely impressed by the Gnawer's formality. He honors it with a rather deft recital of his own. "Black Rabbit, called Two Souls now and formerly known as He Catches the Soul. Born under the knife-moon to the tribe of winter's Wendigo."
Duane follows suit, for Yi's benefit, though he does throw Joseph a final amused glance. "Duane Spears, He-Calls-the-Flame. Uktena seer," he says, less formally than either Joseph or Yi.
Max pipes up, her eyes on Duane. "Max, Bruises, Gnawer puppy 'n 'basher." Formality?
Yi gives Duane a nod as well, casting glances at the others. "Well now that we're all familiar," her eyes turn to Joseph. "Who will be the teacher?" A small quirk of a smile turns to Squall, remembering his bit about squirrels.
Joseph draws a breath, his chin lifting in that proud way he has. "I can teach about the Wyld, but if it's no moon teaching you want, specifically, there is Man hunter."
Kaz blinks. "Who?"
Squall nods slightly to his elder, then glancing to Yi adds, "I can teach you some of the more basic no moon stuff, but Linda's probably your best bet, assuming she's around."
Joseph turns to face Kaz, surprised she does not know who he means. "Man Hunter. Linda Fire."
Kaz still looks blank. "Never met her, I guess. Whatever. I'll be comin' after you folks some, too." There's a pause. "As long as it's ok?"
"Linda... I remember her. She was the first Jay told, when we came back from scouting in the sewers." Yi blinks and gazes towards the ground. "I would learn whatever you are willing to teach," Yi replies, giving her jeans a light dusting with her hands. "And maybe, a few ways of the wolf as well." She looks a bit curious and thoughtful on that idea. Her dark eyes blink, and she runs a hand through her hair.
Alicia slides open the kitchen door to come out to the back yard. Alicia has arrived.
Alicia heads out of the farmhouse, heading towards the barn. She looks a whole lot happier and relaxed now. Changed into fresh, clean clothes, her stride has returned to full confidence.
Joseph gestures with a hand in the traditional way, a small wave along with a nod of the head. "Washte. Good. I will tell Man Hunter."
Max sinks down to a crouch, brushing the dislocated soil on the ground back into the small hold she dug with her boot. She looks from one of the conversants to the next now and again.
Yi bows her head, and glances at Alicia. "I'll be around then," she smiles to Joseph and waves at Alicia.
Squall runs a hand through his hair, glancing at the moon and sighing. "I should get going. Especially if I plan on waking up at dawn tomorrow, and hauling some boulders around." He winces slightly and glances to Joseph, apparently amused. "See you guys later. Thanks again Chief!" He nods to Joseph and Duane, offers the others a quick wave, before he sprints for the trees.
Squall walks through the treeline and into the forest. Squall has left.
Alicia wiggles her fingers to Yi and Squall, letting her eyes train about a bit to th eothers.
Duane has regained his composure now, and he watches Joseph with an honestly curious look. He asks no questios, but they ride behind his eyes.
Kaz nudges Max gently. "I gotta get over the Caern. I'll see y'there later?"
Joseph's nostrils flare, Duane's curiousity not lost on him. He turns his attention back to Yi, and Kaz, expression still severe. "When can you take me to the city?"
Kaz glances upwards. "Sometime that ain't full moon, f'one thing."
Max pushes to her feet. "That lone ranger stuff, or can I come with?"
Yi rubs the back of her neck. "Well, when you would feel prepared to go, I suppose." She smiles wryly. "I will be in the barn, if you wish to find me."
Joseph glances up at the rather full moon and nods to Kaz. To Yi, he says, "When the moon is small."
"So, couple weeks, we'll talk City." Grinning at Max slightly, she says, "'s more of a Starsky and Hutch night. C'mon?"
Joseph nods again.
Max nods at Kaz and pushes away from the barn, heading for the woods. She makes sure to walk close past Yi, bumping shoulders with her wordlessly.
Kaz just shoots Yi a grin, and the rest a general wave, as she wanders off.
Yi nods, giving the moon a glance as well before half-turning. "Then we can meet then." She gives Kaz and Max a grin, and adds one last note to Joseph, "I am grateful you agreed, and I promise to do my best at learning what knowledge you can offer."
Yi then heads into the barn to bed down.
Opening one of the two doorways, you are able to gain passage into the vastness of the farm's barn.
