Bawn: Western Forest(#3018RA)
Tall Sitka spruce and sequoia crowd around and above you. Many of the trees are old, their branches twisted into impossible shapes, trunks broad and draped with lichen, mosses and creepers. Tendrils of moss hand down from them like green spiderwebs, snaring the unwary with cold, ghostly fingers. The patches of younger growth are dense and pale, needles tinged with silver. Matted undergrowth huddles sullenly in the occasional small clearings, clutching with thorns and burrs at the legs of those who would pass. Deer seldom venture here, but the forest is full of rustlings, and tiny glints from wary, watchful eyes.
The forest spreads out to the east, bounded on the west by Sunrise Road. From farther to the west, one can occasionally hear the distant sounds of the town of Kent's Crossing.

Joey chuckles a little, "I learned that one from White Bear, he threw pinecones at me once." She rubs at her face, "Which was better than the rocks I got next time."
Stacey chuckles a bit at that. "I sure wouldn't have thought of that. He's a funny one sometimes." She yawns and then leans up against another tree. "I'm going to sleep well tonight. I have to go seek out the other Guardians soon, though."
Dagger's-Edge makes his way through the woods, silent beneath the dewing drops of light rain. The black wolf's color masking him as well, the Shadow Lord listens in on the voices from afar at first, walking slowly ever closer to the two.
Joey frowns a little at that, "Not yet though Stacey?" Her voice comes off like bittersweet honey, the sad child begging for another bedtime story.
Stacey looks off into the woods, then turns back to smile at Joey. "Well, all right. It can wait a little while, but not too long. They must know what is going on, tomorrow at the latest."
Dagger's-Edge chuffs aloud to announce himself then, striding out of the shadows with head held in confidence. Sniffing towards the other two, the halfmoon melts out of his wolven form, assuming homid. "Yo," he greets once more, a hand working itself through his damp hair. "Sup girls?"
Joey smiles at her victory. "I had fun with you the other night, at the Odeon. I wish-" she stops and tenses at the new arrival, eyes faltering. "Hey," is quietly uttered.
Stacey gives Joey a knowing smile, but then her look because a bit more calculating once she hears Kenneth's voice. She turns towards him and grins broadly. "Hey, Kenneth! Joey and I were just discussing stuff. And look," she happily points to a huge red mark on the side of her face. "She punched me good."
Kenneth squints, given the dim light. "Hunh," he notes with a measured amount of novelty to it, "You finally got the guts to hit someone who's pissin' you off huh?" The question is for the Gnawer, and not hostile in any sort of sense. Then, "What'd you punch her for?"
Joey shrugs, "I mostly missed her, and she dared me to do something about it, but I don't remember what the it was." She looks to Stacey then, unsure what to say next, "And anyway, she got me twice back right away."
Stacey shrugs, too, still grinning. "Yeah, we were both pretty mad." She sobers then and clears her throat. "Listen, I got something to tell you two, and you guys can pass it on to others you run into. Something is going on southwest of the farmhouse. It's not too close, but still a threat. Val the Corax has located an estate with a greenhouse that's all painted black. Strange, most likely tainted, animals come out of it. She has seen rats, cows, and crows. Apparently the animals guard the area, open farmland, aggressively, and their bite has a vemon in it that makes your frenzy or have convulsions and stuff. So just, be on the lookout. I'm gonna warn the other Guardians. Not sure what is being planned about this."
Kenneth nods slightly, looking to Joey when she explains the punch doling, and then back to Stacey. "Yeah? Sounds like a job for a bunch of Garou who got nothin' better to do." The halfmoon looks off down the wood. "Anyone think about grabbin' a couple of pistols and goin' at it?"
Joey brings a shoulder up to her ear and uses it to scratch, standing up slowly as she lets out a breath.
Stacey shrugs. "Yeah, I don't know what they're planning. I've seen the result of just a rat bite, though. It was a red scar this big." She hold up her hands, making a circle the size of a baseball. "It wasn't pretty. I sure don't want those things getting to our cubs. It worries me, especially since Dakota isn't staying at the house at night."
Kenneth seems just a bit edgy underneath the calm facade tonight, oweing the condition to the moon. He rolls a shoulder, not deterred by the thought of a rat bite. "Who's 'they'?" he asks instead, glancing back over to Joey for a second or two. "And anyone get the newmoons to scout it?"
Joey looks up at Stacey, "Who stays with the cubs at night then?" The they question is lost over her head.
Stacey shrugs, smirking a bit. "I was just sayin' 'they' as in people in general. I just found this out from Auggie. I guess his pack is involved. Megan-rhya and them haven't learned about all this yet either. The news is just starting to spread. As far as the newmoons, well, they can't. You see, it's all open farmland, no cover at all to hide in, so... there's no where to scout from really. Except the skies. But now that Val has seen crows, who knows if that'll be possible?" Then she looks over at Joey, shaking her head. "No one that I know of. I'm stopping by there at least once each night to check on things, but... I wish I knew someone was there all night, in case something happened. Rae, Tenzin, and Basil... not so sure how well they'd fair in such a situation."
Kenneth watches the two girls in quiet for a moment as Stacey answers Joey. At the last part, he again looks off down towards the shadowed wood. "If..." he starts to say, voice even, "if there ain't anyone to stand guard out there, I could do it." He looks back, black eyes glinting. "But don't get me wrong. I ain't doin' house chores or crap like that. Just that it's easier to stay out here."
Joey frowns at this news, "That's no good. Well, uh," she pauses, shaking her head. "I'll be there tonight, but tomorrow I gotta go back to look after the dogs."
Stacey smiles at them both, looking relieved. "Any help you guys can give with that would be greatly appreciated. It's hard to fit in a good patrol /and/ check in at the house. Very draining. Thanks, guys." The girl does look really grateful, even in the dim light. "And I'll keep you guys posted about that animal situation."
Kenneth cracks his neck to either side, rubbing at it. "Whichever. I just need t'find someone who can teach me that damn rite to keep my f--... t'keep my clothes on." The halfmoon looks down at his bare feet, frowning. "Such a buncha crap havin' to take 'em off all the time."
Joey almost grins at Kenneth at that one, then dusts her pants off. "Gonna head back there now. You gonna be watching too then right Kenneth? I'd feel better if you were."
Stacey smiles and nods. "Well, I'm sure if you ask Dakota, she'd be willing to point you in the right direction, or I can ask her for you, if I run into her first?" Then she glances over at Joey. "Hey, take care, then, Joey. I'm glad we were able to talk, eh? Just... remember what was said, huh? And I'll see ya around."
Kenneth nods slightly, an eye narrowing as the Gnawer says her piece. "Yeah, I'll be 'round." Then he turns back to Stacey. "You gonna run 'round and make sure none of those animals are lazin' out here?"
Stacey nods. "Yeah, I'll check things out on my way. I'm gonna go seek out the other Guardians as soon as I can." Then she slumps against a nearby tree. "Ah, Gaia, but I'm tired. That girl... that took a lot out of me."
Kenneth watches the Gnawer's back as she moves off, waiting until the ragabash is out of sight before he looks back to the Coggie. "So, what'd she punch you for?" he asks, finally giving voice to a tick of curiosity.
Stacey lets out a sigh, stilling leaning against the tree, as though it's holding her up. "We... exchanged words. She said something that just... made me go off. I yelled at her, chewed her out, told her what I thought. Finally she got fed up enough to stand up and bunch me. By that time I was angry enough to want to fight, but... she stopped it before it got too far. Worked things out finally. I hope." She glances in the direction the Gnawer went, grimacing a bit. "I wasn't nice about things, told it like it is."
Kenneth hunhs again, also looking in the direction Joey had gone. "S'how it should be told. Leave the sugar-coatin' to the galliards." It's then back to brushing off parts of his clothing, shifting his weight off one foot and another. "Damn rain... makes the dirt all muddy and sh-... makes things annoying."
Stacey nods and sighs. "Yeah, I agree, but... whatcha gonna do, huh?" She reaches up to run a hand through her own rain-dampened hair, wrinkling her nose. "So, um... well, now you know why I was in such a bad mood yesterday, too. Joey conflict. Frustrating, stubborn Gnawer."
"Gonna get some Garou to teach me that rite," Kenneth growls, still annoyed at his shoe-less state. He looks back up to the ahroun after. "Thought it was maybe you had a run in with that white-furred meathead of the wolves," he says with a shrug and a turn. There's a moment's pause as he asks after, "The hell you got to argue with Joey about anyway? Thought you were the one who didn't like fightin' and arguin'. You're like... the Peacemaker."
Stacey laughs lightly at that. "The Peacemaker?" she asks, smiling, then becomes more serious. "Nah, it wasn't White Bear. He honestly doesn't bother me. Honest. It was... a combination of Brom, Basil, and Joey, really. There was some sort of confrontation and Joey ended up fox frenzying." She sighs. "So yesterday I was upset at Brom and Basil, and a little hurt, but today... Joey and I, we were talking. And then she says that she was probably just gonna leave, that nothing was really holding her here, and that really got to me, you know? Because here I am thinking we're friends, so... we fought. But... I think it all worked out. In the end she didn't let me walk away, and she came to the point where she was saying she wanted to work with me and all to make things better for her."
Kenneth huffs, finding a tree to lean against. His eyes look down towards the dark ground. "It's just a name y'know. Peacemaker's a gun that people carried back in the days of the Old West, y'know? Colt 45, fast reloadin' and all that. Saw it a couple times on some History Channel special. Whatever, y'don't like the name, it's cool." The halfmoon then looks back up. "She's right too. Least she thought to tell you how she's not feelin' it out here."
Stacey smiles then, looking pleased. "No, no, I like the name, really. Thank you, Kenneth. I'm honored," she says sincerely. "And... you're right, about Joey. Ah, it's all hard to explain. I basically told her I wasn't going to help her unless she wanted me to. That I can't force her to change or work miracles, you know? If she wants to stay and for her situation to change, she has to work towards that, too."
Kenneth thinks for awhile longer in silence. "Yeah," he finally edges on towards agreement. "Just... hangin' around isn't doin' jack." He looks back up then. "What're you gonna tell the Guardians, 'bout that house?"
Stacey frowns and looks off towards the Farmhouse. "Same thing I told you guys, everything I know. White Bear and Holly will have to decide how to go about things, then. We'll probably be meeting together tomorrow, so I'll tell them then."
Kenneth nods slightly, his breathing steadying. "Guess you'll be makin' sure nothin' dirty gets out here hunh?" Dark eyes flick back up.
Stacey straightens a bit and nods. "I'll do my best, yeah. Me and the other Guardians. There's a new Uktena out here, too, arrived from another Sept, Midnight Fire, to help the Guardian pack out."
"Yeah, that uhm... what's her name. Nascha, Calls-Down-the-Stars-to-Judge," Kenneth remembers aloud, eyes roving. "Another halfmoon." The second part, spoken with a bit of a grunt. "Least it's not all ahrouns like before."
Stacey blinks and then chuckles. "Oh, yes, you met her yesterday. It's all fuzzy in my mind, too rage filled. Yeah, she's helping us out, which is good. Need all the help we can get with Jacinta gone, and even when she comes back, since she's pregnant and all."
Kenneth looks back up, brows lifting. "The Wendigo's prego?" He has to work to hold in a laugh of disbelief, and it comes off as a near invisible smirk. "Who knocked her up?"
Stacey raises her brows and then shrugs. "Well, that I don't know. I just know that she has announced she's pregnant."
Kenneth turns away from the ahroun, a hand touching his lips. The Shadow Lord remains quiet and still for a long moment of silence, before he remarks, "Guess she's human after all." Then, he looks over his shoulder.
Stacey smirks and tilts her head, placing one hand on her hip. "Well, of course she is, what else would she be? Well, a Garou-human, but still. Same as any of us." She yawns a bit then. "So, how have you been?"
Kenneth shrugs the shoulder he looks over. "Chillin'. Illin'." The halfmoon turns back around. "But since you ask. Thinkin' of goin' elsewhere myself."
Stacey tilts her head. "Elsewhere? Away from here? Like where?" She frowns. "For how long?"
Kenneth shakes his head. "Don't know," he answers vaguely. "Like Joey said, ain't much keepin' me here. Dillen can play pack all he wants, but Lucas ain't comin' back. And I told Lucas once, when we hit cliath, I was gonna go check out my parents' house again. Back home in North Carolina."
Stacey frowns deeper. "I see. Well, I guess it is good to go back, find out about things from your past. Lucas and I had talked about that once, too, when we had first met in fact." She turns her head away sharply and loosened strands of hair shade her expression. "Well, if you decide to stay... or if you leave and then return... if you need a friend, someone to listen, or a pack or, well, whatever you decide I pray Gaia watches your steps."
Kenneth laughs. His tone, touched in bitterness. "Please, Stacey. You of everyone else in this backwards part of town should know, just about everyone's /glad/ to see the Shadow Lords fade off. Bet they wouldn't shed a tear."
Stacey is silent for a long while, still turned away, then she draws in a breath and turns to face him, meeting his gaze. "I would."
Kenneth lifts his chin slightly, scrutinizing the girl. "Maybe for a little bit. And then after a few months of doin' your ahroun thing, you'd forget. Better if you don't get too attached, Stace. Not good for ya."
Stacey tilts her head stubbornly, her eyes narrowing a bit. "Think what you will, Kenneth, but I don't forget friends. Or family either. And that ain't gonna change about me, any more than my optimism will!" She nods her head then, as if it's all settled.
Kenneth wets his lips, and then actually smiles. "You go on that way then, Stace. It's your path to follow," he replies, turning to go. "I'm different from you."
Stacey starts to return the smile, but then frowns, looking a bit confused, as though she can't decide whether to be hurt by that or not. "Meaning what?" she asks dryly. "Once or if you leave you'll forget about all of us here? Even me?"
Kenneth pauses in his step. "I don't predict the future," he notes. "Whatever comes, whatever goes, things will just be as they be, go as they go." He looks back over his shoulder once. "Trust me. You won't even notice I'm gone." The halfmoon again, smiles a bit, and then slowly melts down into his lupus shape once more, moving off into the forest.
Stacey watches as the wolf slips into the night, one hand clenched in a fist at her side, the other reaching up to grasp the dove pendant that hangs from her neck. "But I will, always," she whispers, and then the littlest Cliath turns and begins her trek into further into the Bawn, also shifting into her wolf form, starting her quest to locate the other Guardians.
