[At Xia's Apartment]
Underneath the gibbous moon, Kenneth stops outside of Xia's apartment complex, gazing towards the upper floors. It's fairly late at night, at least by most people's standards. Then, scrolling through the names on the callbox, he dials for the kin's apartment. As the box rings, he straightens a few parts of his worn clothing, some of it frayed at the hems and joints.
A voice comes on the call-box with bits and pieces of static tossed in. "Hello?" It sounds a lot like Xia.
"Xia?" The voice that comes back over, is remarkably Kenneth's. "It's me. Kenneth. I'm downstairs." Obviously so. He takes a breath, about to say more, but then doesn't.
There is silence for a few moments before Xia's voice is heard. "Come up," she says and has the door unlocked for the Philodox to pass through the security door.
Doesn't take very long, and the Shadow Lord knows his way around here by now. Kenneth is soon at the kinswoman's door, giving it a quiet, unobtrusive knock while looking around at the empty hallways.
Xia opens the door slowly and allows the Shadow Lord to step in before she closes it quietly behind her. The room is fairly dark, only one small lamp is lit in the corner.
Kenneth squints a little, with the darkened room. His eyes eventually settle on Xia, and the philodox keeps silent with just his gaze on her, waiting.
Xia takes a hesitant step towards Kenneth and wraps her arms around his shoulders. "Where have you been?" she asks, whispering in his ear.
"It's..," Kenneth starts to answer her, trailing off and standing quite still, allowing the kin to get closer. The philodox eventually curls his arm around her waist, holding her close as well. "Time's a funny thing," he finally says after a moment, voice quieting, "in the Umbra." Then he looks down, gazing upon her face in that way of refamiliarizing himself with it.
"Is that where you have been?" the kin answers and draws only her head back, allowing hip to keep his arms around her waist. Her hands rise to his face, fingertips trailing along his jaw bone and cheeks. "Kenneth, I was scared about you."
Kenneth averts his gaze for a moment, an eye closing on the side of his cheek being touched. The philodox's jaw works a bit, and then he returns his full gaze on the kin. "A part of it, yeah," he replies. "It doesn't feel like I've been gone that long, but... Stace said it's been months." His dark eyes search hers, as if to confirm this.
Xia nods her head slowly to confirm what Stacey had said was true. "You have been gone for a month," she replies. Her thumbs brush along his cheekbone as she looks into his eyes briefly. "No one told me where you had gone."
Wetting his lips, Kenneth clears his throat quietly. "Last I knew it was March, and five of us went into the Umbra chasing some crazy coyote's claim about a fetish." He lifts his hand to cover hers on his face. "And after that, I ended up somewhere out in the middle of ..." He breaks off there, brows furrowing, and then shakes his head. "Has anything happened to you?" he asks in its place, once again searching.
"I'm in summer classes," Xia replies, although she slowly shakes her head. Whatever she seemed to want to say to Kenneth, she leaves for someome to fill him in with the details. "Nothing important happened with me," she replies with a reassuring smile.
Kenneth's expression seems to go doubtful for a second or two, and then he nods once. "Anyone come by?" he asks, his tone implying not just anyone, but those in the Garou know. The philodox's gaze strays around, still evaluating the dim and dark. "Roommate's out again?"
"She has gone to Europe for a few months," Xia replies and she takes a step from Kenneth, although pulls him gently by the hand towards the couch. "No one really knows where I live," Xia replies, "except for you."
Going along, Kenneth is lead to the couch, and sits down there. "They should. In case anything did." His other hand combs through his hair, judging by the length with its need to be trimmed again, possibly needing a new dye job as well. "A lot has happened since I left," he says pensively, gazing over at her.
"You know no body ever tells me anything at all about what goes on," Xia replies. She slumps into the couch and leans against the arm. "Would you like anything? A drink?" she asks.
Kenneth shakes his head, breathing out slowly with a bit of a tired sigh. He looks like he's been traveling for some time, at that, mentally and physically. "I heard one time ago, they gave a lot of info out to this one woman, sayin' she was kin or human, something like that. She betrayed the Garou. Her house was a trap, an' some Black Spiral Dancers almost got the Sept Alpha." The halfmoon looks over, gaze going up and down the kin.
Xia nothing appears to register on the kin's face. She, however, listens and shakes her head back and forth to this news. That's horrible," she mutters.
Leaning in some more, Kenneth has a very serious expression. "I'm telling you because you need to know. I was told we have 'em out there right now. Black Spiral Dancers. The Wyrm's Garou, lurking outside the bawn and they're chuckin' people's heads in by a catapult. With any luck, we'll find them and kill them, but I want to make sure you're safe."
Xia bites her lip and nods her head. "I carry a gun with me wherever I go." she replies, she makes no mention of having any silver. Her dark eyes sit, studying Kenneth's expression carefully.
Kenneth does look a little surprised at the mention of the firearm, but accepting. "Good," he says with a slight nod. "Might consider a few less noticeable things... like wasabi powder." He lifts his brows pointedly. "If that shit stings for humans, I can imagine what it does to wolf senses."
Xia nods her head. "I will look for it tomorrow," she says quietly, despite that they are the only two in the whole apartment. "Does this connection of this kin have something to do what is going on now?" she assks.
"No, just a cautionary tale," Kenneth dismisses with a small shrug. "Jarred told me about it, way back when. But when things are this hyped up you should know so you don't end up doing something that gets you in trouble."
Xia answers with a dip of her head. "Would you like to say here for the evening?" she asks suddenly. "I need to sleep soon, I have a class in the morning." She doesn't mean to sound rude, but she is stating the facts.
Kenneth cants his head at the offer, and then glances around the apartment. He nods to the kin, slowly upturning a corner of his lip to a quirked part of a smile. "Don't go out of your way for me," he says, pushing up to his feet and holding out a hand to help the girl up too. "I'll stay, tonight."
Xia takes Kenneth's hand and rises to her feet. "Kenneth..." she says and looks into his eyes. "You need me," she says with a smiles. "I will have to find you some new clothes, and we need to get your haircut."
Kenneth goes a little tense at first, an initial reaction to the thought of needing anyone. The smile though, it puts off the followthrough. Looking into the kin's eyes, and then up to his hair and down to his clothes, he concedes. "Yeah," he utters quietly, that just one word doing all the summarizing he seems to need to express himself.
