Bawn: Central Forest(#2876RA)
The forest is dark and quiet. No, not quiet. Listening. The ancient firs rear up all around, branches interwoven in a dense roof of dark green. Fallen needles lie in a thick carpet on the ground, heaped up around the drifts of undergrowth clinging to the scarce patches of light reaching the forest floor. Every sound seems muffled, and the sharp scent of pine hangs in the air like the clouds of midges that swarm ceaselessly beneath the branches. Even the many deer who roam here seem to step more quietly than usual, and the songbirds seldom sing.
The forest spreads out around you in all directions.

Far-Cry pads through the central forested areas of the bawn, making his way east to west on a winding, unset trail. The black wolf's pace is not even at a steady trot, but a meandering stroll that takes him from one scent to another. Because of the recent rainfall, the smells are muddled. It is when one stands out to him that he changes course to head that direction, investigating thoroughly each mystery.
While for the most part she has prefered to stay on two feet, Adalyn has taken to her fur for the day and seems to be enjoying her freedom. She moves at a very slow pace, one paw in front of the other and doesn't seem to be as interested with the smells as she is with the sights. The dark chocolate hued wolf snaps her head upward every now and then and stares at the tree branches before moving forward. Both ears prick up immediately and her head cants to one side when another is seen further out. Standing proud, the cub trots forward and emits a soft chuff in greeting.
It is the greeting that brings Far-Cry's head up as well, nose sniffing and ears cupping forward. Movement caught in his gaze turns his eyes in the direction of the approaching cub, and he in response moves towards her. It's her scent he recognizes faintly, shown by the familiar, if distanced acceptance of her in his vicinity. You are one of the cubs of the Lords of Shadow, muses the philodox. This one is called Far-Cry, born half moon.
Learns-Quickly stops and stands straight, her eyes and ears alert as the other approaches. She sniffs eagerly and eventually lets her ears flap down and her tail sink as he speaks. ~Yes, I'm Learns-Quickly, crescent moon. What tribe are you?~ she asks, tilting her head. The light footed cub prances ever so slightly on her paws and leans her head out again to investigate the stranger further.
Far-Cry isn't saddened by the cub's lack of recognition of him. Not even surprised. The philodox allows the investigation on a tolerant level, though he turns away his backside in the event she comes too close. I am of your tribe, cub. The Shadow Lords, Grandfather Thunder's children. You saw me at the gathering, where I held the cracked bones and called for others to come say their piece. He looks more directly at her then, tail uplifting in a mild constant show of his dominance. I have been searching for you and Demands-Answers. Moon Otter-alpha has told me of you.
Learns-Quickly doesn't come too close to the stranger, or atleast she thinks of him as one for now. She knows well enough to keep her distance until some form of understanding is made. Though with the mention of her own tribe, the cub bows her head and her tail tucks under as a display of her own and she gives a quick nip towards the bottom of his muzzle. ~I'm sorry I didn't recognize you. I hope you've heard good things~ The cub lowers herself to her haunches.
Far-Cry gradually relaxes, though never fully, as the cub shows her submission. This one heard only that you were cub of the Lords of Shadow. It is up to you to decide what good things you want to show. His golden gaze turns away to the forest for a brief moment, listening to the silence, and then he turns back. What have you learned, Learns-Quickly?
Learns-Quickly lifts her nose up while keeping her head mostly down. ~Many things.~ she begins simply, shifting her head on her front paws. ~Mothers Tongue. The different tribes and their history. How to change safely and when. The Litany in its stricktest form. A fury, Alesia-Rhya has begun to teach of my moon-the umbra and now healing herbs.~ Her tail begins to wag quickly but in small motion, seeking approval.
Far-Cry notes the use of the Mother's Tongue with a quick flick of his ear. Moon Otter-alpha told the Black Fury to teach you about your moon? If there is approval, it's slow in coming.
Learns-Quickly crouches a bit so that her forelimbs are almost resting on the earthen floor beneath them. ~Yes. There is no one of our tribe to teach me the Theurge tradition. She also teaches Demands-Answers sometimes and a Get Cub-but mostly me and the Get~ she says, a soft whine added as well.
Far-Cry licks at the side of his muzzle, tail twitching behind him in thought. The Get cub. Leaps-From-His-Den?
Learns-Quickly stays still, her eyes skittering around their paws and occasionally lifting to meet his for less than a second. ~Yes.~ she says simply, her ears flipping up and then back again.
Far-Cry settles down with a scrape of his paw against the ground, looking ever hard to read save for the underlying tension around the philodox. What do you think of Demands-Answers and the Fenris cub? he asks abruptly, ears sweeping forward at the theurge. What do you think about the Fury who teaches you?
Both ears flip and pushes herself to a more upright position. ~The fury seems to be a good teacher but less demanding than Otter-Rhya. Demands-Answers is my fellow cub. I respect her but I don't see her much. The Get is ambitious but maybe over eager.~ She keeps her answers simple and obviously refrains from letting her more emotional opinions litter them.
Far-Cry seems to notice the lack of emotion tied to the answers, seeing as he continues to wait and stare at the young cub. That's good of you to think of them that way, rumbles the philodox after a time. But what do you /really/ think of them? It's a pressing question, searching out those opinions.
Learns-Quickly clearly hesitates, looking from one side of her to the other before keeping her chin steady and even with the ground. ~Demands-Answers is a little too strict for me. Never seems to have fun-always um..politics. That's the word. Alesia is patient and direct. I think she'll teach me a lot but I wish someone in the tribe could teach me. The Get, same answer as before. I don't know him well.~
Far-Cry takes in the answers again, leaking only a little bit of wryness and humor from the splay of his ears as the cub gives in. What is it you want to learn, from the Lords of Shadow? he asks next in his interrogation. And does not Moon Otter-alpha teach you? Culls-the-Herd-alpha? Spits-Out-Nails? ... Have you met the snaketongued mule of our tribe, Brings-the-Bitter-Harvest?
Learns-Quickly lifts her head and wags her tail in approval. ~Moon Otter has taught me almost everything I know, even bits of my moon. He found me when I firsted--I don't think he can stand me much but I've grown attached to him,~ she says jokingly. ~Culls-the-Herd and Spits-Out-Nails I've met as well. I like them both--even if most don't like Spits-Out-Nails. But I haven't met Brings-the-Bitter Harvest~ she says, canting her head to the side.
Far-Cry flips his tail one way, a growth of tension in the line of his shoulder becoming apparent. Those are the Lords of Shadow here. Myself... included. If you feel you are worthy of joining Thunder's brood, then you must work. Work hard. But even then, sometimes, it is not enough. But for now, you have proven to your elders that you are eager to learn those ways. His gaze turns back to the cub, and he peers at her. Continue to learn, Learns-Quickly. Some things are not taught. Only learned.
Learns-Quickly respectfully dips her head low again and crouches so that the lighter fur of her belly is almost in the dirt. Human expression would show so much more of whats swirling around in her head. For now she simply responds with,~I understand. I'll prove myself.~ she says confidently, letting her ears flip up and then shaking herself off as she stands at her full height.
Far-Cry stands as well, moving to bump the cub lightly against her shoulder with his own. The philodox in lupus speaks no further, letting her read what she wants of the physical contact between them. Indeed, without another word, the halfmoon trots away, his farewell unspoken and leaving the cub to ponder.
