[LOTS of paging between us to figure out where we were going to start. Eventually it was decided we would work our way from the outskirts of the city nearest the bawn's direction and go southwards towards downtown.]
Goldeny orbs of bright liquid pools shine brightly as One-Rage pads along, flickering his tail back and forth. He looks like nothing more then a common mutt with only a hint of his lupine heritage. Sniffing this way and that, his black claws click away he cants his head about to his traveling partner. You ready Mulan?
Yi looks around cautiously, making sure there's no one around to watch the girl and her 'dog' as they near the spot the two of them have picked for this scout mission. She brushes a hand through her hair, a flashlight keychain hanging around her fourth finger. "Looks clear," she says curtly to the lupus, and nods as they stop at their starting point.
One-Rage pauses for a moment, sniffing once more, then chuffs as he peers down at the manhole near by. Flicking his ears upwards, he glances over his shoulder, chuffing. Go first. I'll be right behind you.
[You paged the room with 'Is the manhole covered? If so, Yi'll shift to glabro and pry it off as quietly as she can.'.
Eric pages to the room: It's covered, yes. Saftey hazard. :-)]
Yi waves slightly to the lupus to back up a little as she shifts upward. Inserting her fingers into the holes on one side, she hauls upward, the muscles on her arms bulging under the skin.
The manhole is heavy, especially without the proper tools, but nothing a glabro can't handle. With the sound of metal scraping metal, the dish comes away, revealing a hole into darkness.
One-Rage chuffs lightly, padding forward to let his gaze drop down into the darkness, scanning for a moment. ~Turn Invisible before going down there~ He rumbles in the mother's tongue.
[Eric pages to the room: Remember to page me if you want to use any gifts. Don't just pose their successful use.]
Yi sets down the coverdish as quietly as possible, still a bit worried of being spotted in the daylight. She nods, again silent, her mind set on the business ahead of them, and concentrates in calling up for the gift of her auspice.
[You paged Eric with 'Blur of the Milky Eye. :)'.]
Yi's form shimmers a bit and becomes less, well, obvious. A casual observer might overlook her , but One-Rage has no trouble at all locating her. To him, she's still quite obviously there.
Yi smiles a little, then sets her jaws back into the grim line and climbs down into the manhole. Once reaching the bottom, she waits for Jay to hop down, her arms waiting.
One-Rage waits patiently for the most part, swaying his tail from left to right as he sniffs the air, continuing to glance about.
One-Rage pads close to the manhole, then slips down into it, flopping down into the glabro's arms.
It's, well, dark. There's the smell of waste, both the biological kind and simple garbage, but that's not so strong here. The sewer extends forward and back in a long tunnel.
One-Rage cants his head from side to side, flickering his ears upwards as he listens calmly for a few moments.
Yi sets her partner down and peers up into the sky and light, enjoying its radiance before turning to One-Rage and whispering as softly as she can in the mother tongue. ~Which way now?~ Her nose wrinkles slightly in distaste at the smell, but the two of them being Gnawers, should be rather used to bad smelling things.
[You paged the room with 'We don't hear anything, do we?'.]
One-Rage nudges her lightly as he glances about, then starts forward, narrowing his eyes as he continues to scent for anything out of the obvious.
[Eric pages to the room: Not immediately.]
The natural smell of the sewers overwhelms the sensitive lupine nose. If there's anything hiding down here, it's going to be hard to sniff out.
One-Rage wrinkles his nose as he continues to plod along, shaking his head with a soft snort. Going to be hard to find anything Mulan. I'll keep my ears peeled.
Yi hushes now, and grips the flashlight in between her fingers, not switching it on yet. Gradually she paces herself a little bit in front of One-Rage, eyes and ears alert as the two of them proceed down the sewer.
[You paged the room with 'I've not much experience IRL of sewers. Is it tall enough for a glabro to stand upright? Moreover, how about a little less than 8' tall crinos?'.
Eric pages to the room: Yeah, the ceiling is easily 12-15 feet overhead. That's why you have to take ladders up and down.]
Very quickly it becomes pitch black.
[You paged the room with 'If I switch on the light, it will blow my cover to anyone watching right?'.
Eric pages to the room: Well, yeha.
One-Rage pages to the room: hehe. You be invisible young mulan. Float like featha', sting like bee. *gentle wise nod*]
One-Rage pauses for a moment, letting his trained, feral eyes stare into the darkness, nudging her, he softly says in the mother's tongue. ~Take your Hispo~ Simple at that.
Yi nods, though probably unseen in the blackness. She sets the keychain's ring in her teeth and shifts down into hispo, snuffing as the stench becomes much more apparent to her in this form than in nearman.
One-Rage shifts up as well, following after her as his eyes strain through the dark confines of the sewers.
Shifting helps, but not overly so. Pitch black is still pitch black. The tunnels are bare, with a small stream of not-so-clean water running down the middle of them. After about fifty yards, it comes to an intersection.
Three-Blades pads stealthily into the darkness, her tail held out and brushing periodically at One-Rage's left foreshoulder to let him know her position. Her ears swivel around like twin radar. Her paw sometimes splashes in the water softly but she lets the sound echo in an attempt to mimic bats and get an idea of their surroundings in the darkness.
One-Rage continues as well, his eyes narrowing as his hackles raise slightly within the darkness. He feels almost at home though in the pitch black ink. Glancing to the intersection, he trains his ears for a moment in pause, listening.
[You paged the room with 'Can we assume the sewer lines follow the streets above? We don't hear any rats or other living creatures, yes? Only the trickle of water.'.]
Every now and then, the Garou catch the sound of something moving through the water. Droplets splash, or the swishing sound of something pushing it as side as it trundles through. There are a few animal scents, though not as many as one would expect in a large city's sewer system.
[You paged One-Rage with 'Left, or right? We probably want to head towards the city. Maybe we will find another manhole. Since it's daylight, there will be a little light streaming from it. Also the storm drains may provide a little light.'.
One-Rage pages: Not that'd we know in this darkness :)
You paged One-Rage with 'Aiee. We want to head into the city. It might help a bit with the cars rushing overhead, but it'll screw with our ears. I don't like not seeing in the dark, and the smell sense isn't helping. K'sou. What to do? I'll say right. If we're closest to the bawn in a sense, then we were north of the city. Heading right would take us west or south, depending.'.
One-Rage pages: Okie. keep leading :)]
Three-Blades nudges her fellow hispo with her tail, her eyes finding nothing in the darkness. ~We should head into the city,~ she comments in a low growling whisper before starting on what she thinks would be the right tunnel. Her hackles raise and her teeth grip a little more tightly on the keychain as the two of them continue on.
[You paged Eric with 'I assume we started in the north of the city... and going into the right side tunnel. Would it take us into the city heading southwest? We want to move towards that sound of droplets splashing.'.]
One-Rage follows after her, remaining quiet for the most part as he glances from right to left, listening still. He examines the walls about him, still lightly sniffing at the air.
Taking the right-hand branch, the sound of water dripping grows louder. In the near-pitch darkness, the Garou can hear the sounds of their own breathing echo off the stone walls.
Three-Blades restrains the urge to growl her dislike, but the increasing sound of dripping water is making her curious as she tries to figure out where they are. She pauses for a moment, turning her head to look at One-Rage. Her ears flick briefly, showing a bit of nervousness, but then she again continues on, comforted that he is still behind her.
[You paged the room with 'You said near pitch black... means we're heading toward a lighter spot of the sewers?'.]
One-Rage rumbles softly to her. ~Careful, may be under a large body of water.~ His eyes glance to the sounds of water dripping, then chuffs softly.
[Eric pages to the room: No, it's pretty much near pitch black all around.]
Being in Hispo helps a little. A very little. You still can't see more than a few feet.
Three-Blades bobs her head at her partner's comment, sniffing softly and hoping her senses aren't as screwed as she thinks they are. The two of them still continue forward though. She stops again, this time to listen for that sound of something moving she thought she heard eariler.
The grows a bit more humid, and now the Garou can smell the water in it. Chlorinated water.
One-Rage rumbles softly to himself as he tastes the air, quirking a brow forward. Hmm.... ~That smell..Isn't that the stuff they use in spa's and pools?~ He questions softly to her.
[You paged the room with 'We're not near the wharf, if there's chlorine. A sewage processing plant?'.]
Three-Blades sniffs lightly before replying. ~It is. We might be near a plant of sorts. I don't think the power plant would use chlorine. Maybe it is a sewage processing plant?~ Her ears are pricked forward, listening for any sound of machinery, cars, anything city-like.
[Eric pages: Or a large fountain.
You paged Eric with 'How does a large fountain make the air humid though?'.
Eric pages: Water evaporates even at room temperature. Plumbing collects dew.
Long distance to Eric: Three-Blades hms. A fountain would have faster water, and lots of splashing. Continue forward.]
One-Rage dips his head in agreement as he bumps against her slightly, drawing his ears forward, then sniffs at the air. ~So far its been too quiet~ Drawing his head back to her, he sniffs once more.
Three-Blades tastes the air around, experimentally. She knows it's a little -too- quiet, but continues hesitantly forward towards the louder dripping water sound. ~I'm beginning to hate water as much as Banecruncher,~ she growls softly, feeling the murk in her paws.
There's little actual warning. The darkness suddenly grows darker. There's a screech of outrage, something whose territory has been invaded, and plans to defend it. Something lashes out at catches One-Rage in the shoulder, and the Garou can smell fresh blood.
One-Rage continues after her, passing closer to the walls as he goes, listening, training his head upwards every so often, searching for another manhole of sorts, anything that could give a possible clue to whats up top.
One-Rage grimaces and whirls around quickly in a blur of speed, digging his claws in, then snaps out with his powerful hispo jaws, hoping to catch whatever it was that just bit him.
Three-Blades whirls around, the sudden screech and smell of blood mixed with chlorine fueling the adrenaline. She tries her hardest to keep from revealing herself through voice as her head whips around, looking for the enemy.
[Eric pages: You can't see *anything*.]
One-Rage's claws strike against something soft and lumpy. Flesh falls away easily beneath his attack. His teeth sink into something moist and foul-tasting. The stench of rot wafts up from the darkness. The creature cries out again.
One-Rage continues to lash out, making sure his jaws sink 'deeply' into the soft flesh. With a fluid motion, he digs his claws into the ground, then YANKS back with a jerk of his head, hoping to rend the hell out of something.
Three-Blades crouches, silent with eyes closed, ears listening to the sound of Rage tearing and slashing.
[You paged Eric with 'If I don't see the target, can I still use Scent of Sweet Honey, attract rats/rat-spirits? Then Jay an I continue forward, and hope we run into some manhole?'.
Eric pages: Sure, you can do that.
You paged One-Rage with 'Any luck in killing it?'.
One-Rage pages: Not sure yet :)
You paged the room with 'Please try to rend flesh as quietly as possible. Here there be banes. ;)'.]
Three-Blades can only smell the flesh and hear its cries, but she calls out to the rodents of the sewers, aiming to attract them into this fight so she and Jay can run for the nearest manhole.
[You paged Eric with 'Man, where's a map of the sewer/streets when you need one... Scent of Sweet honey, and bugger outta there if Jay can free himself.'.]
More of the rotten flesh falls away. One-Rage takes a mouthful of it and tears, the horrid taste of the beast making him gag.
[You paged Eric with 'With luck, I may be able to get a rat-spirit to help us out in this sewer navigation?'.]
Three-Blades's ears flatten at One-Rage's gagging, but prick upward again. She shakes her head briefly to clear out the fight or flight urge pulsing through her.
One-Rage hacks the flesh out of his mouth, shaking his head quickly with a snort as his claws gleam brightly for a moment. This time, he takes it four to the floor and sends two quick powerful claws down into the body.
[Eric pages: Um, you don't have any means of contacting a spirit. Plus, you're in the Realm.
You paged Eric with 'Doh. Ok, scratch it. Is that thing dead yet?'.
Eric pages: It's awfully quiet, but one-Rage is attackign something.
You paged Eric with 'Kay. Since I don't think there is anything else here, I'll help him and throw in a bite and claw in the ick thing's general direction as well.'.]
One-Rage's attacks continue to rend the body of his attacker. His mass pushes it back to the ground as it flails against him feebly. The sickeningly sweet smell of honey, completely out of place here in the sewers, begins to permeate the area.
[Eric pages: Go ahead and pose.]
Three-Blades decides to forego the stealth against this foe, and lunges a hispo claw in the fleshy thing's general direction as well with a low growl. ~Die you piece of fishbait...~ as if willing it to cease its movements.
One-Rage listens to the sounds of its mewling, then strikes down quickly with a shot, hoping to strike for its throat, aiming to where he can hear its gasps are. He stays quiet the entire time, not a single growl, nor howl. Simple, plain, hacking.
Things get muddled as the other Garou joins in the melee and everyone starts attacking in the darkness. It doesn't take long, however, before the creature stops thrashing beneath One-Rage and its body begins to decompose quickly.
[You paged the room with 'I... I'm attacking the darkness, hehe. ;P'.
One-Rage pages: LMAO!!]
The smell of the honey is getting noticably thicker.
One-Rage growls softly and whips his gaze to Three-Blades. ~What are you doing? Your giving yourself away. I had it under control.~ Irritable isn't he? Glancing down to his wounds, he softly rumbles, pushing himself up to crinos. Well, so much for subterfuge.
Three-Blades stops her attack, sniffing quietly. At least it smells a little better in here, she thinks to herself. Thumping her tail against One-Rage, she says nothing before indicating with her head that they should keep going.
One-Rage pushes himself upwards, on two legs now, his eyes sparkling as the pain fills his shoulder in a stinging throb. Easy for her to say, she's not the one bleeding. But the Ahroun pushes forward, this time, watching the darkness a lot more carefully, and listening as well.
[Eric pages to the room: You guys looking for a way out, or continuing scouting?
One-Rage pages to the room: well..one bane can't really be all that much of a finding. What they ganna do. "Oh yah...guys...we found one bane...um...it hit me...so we left..." (Sept) *SLAP!*
Long distance to the room: Three-Blades nods. Continue then. (Brian: Who sent you guys? *Jay and Yi look at Banecruncher*
From afar, to the room, One-Rage dies laughing.]
Three-Blades continues padding forward, ears pricked, nose smelling honey, blood and chlorine. She's looking and listening for plumbing, and silently concerned about the ahroun, though not voicing it and trying not to let it show.
One-Rage plods forward, glowing despite himself as he continues to listen. The smell of honey is pissing him off. Its dulling one of his important senses. But he can't really blame the new moon, he'll get over it. Flickering his ears from right to left, he continues forward silently as he can.
The sounds of the battle have clearly attracted attention. Sounds are clearer now: creatures splashing through the water, something clicking against stone, the odd cry of something inhuman. In the artifical underground, they bounce off the walls, seeming to come from all directions.
One-Rage hrmm's to himself. ~Ok.... let's get the fuck out. I'm brave, but I think thats sign enough there's a load of shit here~
[You paged the room with 'Is there a tunnel we can slip out of here from?'.
One-Rage pages to the room: or a recent manhole we passed by?
Eric pages to the room: You can find the way out with realtive ease, yeah.
One-Rage pages to the room: Ahhh okie :)]
One-Rage takes his hispo once more, his speediest form, then pushes against her, shoving in the direction back.
Three-Blades softly growls her consent to the ahroun's decision. If even the fullmoon is worried, then the no-moon's in no position to play heroine. They'll haul their furry butts out ASAP.
[You paged the room with 'This being the Realm, I don't want to know what was in the Umbra. Once we get out, let's try and trace back to see what's on the ground in the same area?'.
Long distance to One-Rage: Three-Blades sits next to a bale of hay, peering at Nevada with a small glower. "Sure as hell wasn't any damned Ninja Turtle down there."
One-Rage pages: LOL!!]
Three-Blades and One-Rage haul tail, zipping back the way they came. With luck, she'll remember the number of paces they took and not run into the wall at the intersection point.
[Eric pages to the room: Osprey Circle Fountain.
You paged the room with 'Wouldn't happen to have a map of the city somewhere online, would you? :)'.
Eric pages to the room: Nope.
You paged the room with 'Are we at the intersection yet?'.
One-Rage pages to the room: Ok guys, I gotta head out unless Eric has anything else. I have to snag my pay check and then pack an get ready for dallas....
Eric pages to the room: The intersection is Opsey Circle Fountain. I need to head off, too, fairly soon, so let me know what want to try. :)
Eric pages: Well, the intersection is Osprey Circle. There happens to be a fountain there.
You paged Eric with 'Kay. Well, assume then we made it out, Jay put back the manhole, and I had Jay stay somewhere while I went to scout this fountain?'.
Long distance to the room: Three-Blades will make the fountain scout really fast, just walk briefly, eye it in homid a couple times, and then get out of there?
You paged Eric with 'Just so I have an idea... anything unusual around the fountain above ground?'.
Eric pages: It looks perfectly normal. Osprey Circle is an area where several corporate buildings stand. The fountain is in the middle of the circle. There are people eating their lunches beside it. Pigeons. Traffic.
You paged Eric with 'What types of corporate buildings? It's a traffic circle, with a fountain in the middle and stuff yeah?'.
Long distance to Eric: Yi imagines a sort of Downtown LA feel to it, if you know what she means.
Eric pages: Right.
You paged Eric with 'Okay...bane country. ;) Circle... possible if the spiritual flow there is spiral like, you know? :)'.
From afar, Eric nods.
You paged Eric with 'Mmmm... any unusual looking people, punks, goths, etc. among the corporate business men/women?'.
Eric pages: Nope.
You paged Eric with 'Tough one. This is probably as bad as the hospital, blight wise. What does the fountain look like? Clear water and everything?'.
Long distance to Eric: Yi notes, by the way, if you have to go.. we can stop here. Otherwise I'll just bombard you with detail type questions. ;)
Eric pages: Yeah, the fountain looks spotless.
Eric pages: And I really shouldd go. Feel free to +mail me if you have any more questions.
You paged Eric with 'A little -too- spotless for normal downtown. Kay, I'll +mail you if I've got more to think up. :) See ya!'.
From afar, Eric waves.]
[Game OBAH! Continue?]
