The church is quiet, but there is someone here. She stands balanced at the top of a short stepladder, working on an unfinished mural that covers half the wall's surface, a wood pallette held in the crook of her left arm as she works.
The Asian Gnawer slips into the church with barely a creak of the doors, glancing around to see if the church has any occupants.
The incomplete painting is beginning to take shape, these days--a woodland scene, with a waterfall that spills around one of the grimy windows. It's not quite trompe l'oeil, for it seems to have touches of strangeness: half-human faces, almost fey-looking, peer out from behind tree trunks, or take shape like spirits in the water.
The painter is too absorbed in her work to hear the faint sound of the unoiled hinges; she is focused, her attention on the leaves before her. Another of those creatures is appearing under her hand, as if the brush does not create it but calls it out from hiding among the branches.
From outside, the sound of someone singing may be heard. The doors creak open, louder than the Ragabash's arrival moments before. "The ghouls all came from dere humble abode, ta get a jolt from my electrodes. Dey did the mash... the monsta mash! Dey did the mash... the monsta ma-- " the singer stops mid-verse, pokes a blonde head from around the huge brown paper bag he's hefting around. He blinks.
Yi's eyes fall upon the painter and her work, admiring the unfinished mural with a quiet air about her. She suddenly turns to avoid the swing of the door, catching herself on a pew before glancing at her blonde familiar. A light chuckle elicits from her. "Hello Nevada," she giggles before offering to help with the bag.
Rina starts, and half-turns; the sudden movement rocks the ladder, but she balances again quickly. She squints a little against the beams of sunlight that cross the dusty church. "Who--" Her head tilts a little as she studies the two from her perch. "Don't think I know you." The voice is soft, hoarse, with a trace of Chicago.
Rina's jacket lies cast off on the floor at the foot of the ladder; she gives it a quick glance, before returning her eyes to the two strangers. There is something guarded in her manner, a tension about her balanced stance on the ladder's next-to-top rung.
Bowing her head in a cultural greeting, Yi glances at Nevada before introducing herself. "My name is Yi," her lightly toned, british/cantonese-accented voice echoes just slightly around the hollow church. Her gaze bounces back and forth between Nevada and Rina.
Nevada sets down the brown paper bag on a pew, rubbing his shoulder lightly. He half-grin Yi's direction, then looks to Rina. After a moment of scrutiny, he smiles slowly. "Hello," he says,"Funny night t'be inna church, huh?"
Jay strides into the church, letting the doors slam behind him as he stretches up his arms with a tired yawn. Opaque orbs flickering brightly in curiousity as he trains his gaze towards anyone who's inside.
"If you call it that," Rina answers quietly. "It hasn't been one f'r'a while, though." She glances back to the Oriental girl, and introduces herself. "I'm Rina. You... friends of Seiri, or Elan?" She braces pallette and brush against her forearm, and comes down a few steps on the ladder.
Nodding in affirmation, she gazes at the other girl curiously, though wary of the new face. "My friend here, Nevada, and I both know Elan, yes." Her eyes shift up to the painting above. "You paint very well," she comments, taking in the picture with an admiring light.
"Some of us even know Rina very well." Jason comments as a slight smile tugs upon the end of his lips. Bumping shoulders with Yi, passing by, the Ahroun leans up against one of the pew's.
Rina lifts one shoulder in a taut little shrug, and jumps down past the last few rungs, landing heavily next to the leather jacket and the backpack beside it. Her dark eyes flick to the newcomer, and she offers a faint, tight half-smile.
Nevada seems to be admiring something other than the picture, but the doorslam and Jay's subsequent strolling in steals his attention. He shoots him with a grin.
Yi blinks in surprise as she's shouldered, then smiles at her 'brother.' She relaxes a little more visibly, since she's around people she knows, and they know the new face. Strolling over to a pew, she sits down on the wooden backing and gazes over the other three. "Are we going to do anything, this...Halloween?" she queries, casting a short glance at the galliard cub who informed her of the subject yesterday.
If anything, Rina seems more on edge since Jason walked in; she watches him warily, as if expecting a threat or at least some trouble. She hardly takes her eyes from the three others, as she drops to a crouch beside her things. Her hands move with the automatic grace of actions performed by rote; unzip the bag, take out a box, cover the pallette with plastic and stow it inside. She picks up a jar, dips several brushes into it, and straightens as she rinses them.
Jay doesn't seem the least intimidating at all at the moment. The past is where it is, in the past. Sliding down into one of the pews, he draws a knee to his chest, glancing expectantly over to Nevada. "Yah Cubby, what we ganna do? Smash pumpkins, or some heads?" A wry grin forms upon his adamant features as a few whisps of bangs drip down into his face.

"Man, ya don't go screwin up no lil kid's Halloween," Nevada replies with mock indignance. "Dat's sacred groun. So Michelangelo here is a frienda yas? Ya?"
Jay shrugs slightly as he glances over to Rina, letting his gaze fall upon her. "Something like that Nevada.... we well..." He looks her over. "We go way back... kinda...But we're just good friends, or were, its been awhile." Finishing his ramble, he lets his hands rub the back of his head. "Just good friends." As if he's trying to assure himself.
Rina jerks her chin slightly, meeting Jay's gaze across the room. "They family?"
Jay nods his head as he watches Rina, letting his pools fill her own gaze. "Yup... Nevada there is my lil cubby, and Yi here is pack."
Yi brushes a hand through her hair, still watching Rina with polite curiosity. She glances over at Jay and smiles, feeling honored, if not more, to be called pack. "I just recently arrived here, from Hong Kong," she says to Rina. "The city's an...interesting place." She's cautious, still keeping the hammer off the Veil for now.
Rina answers with a curt nod, dropping to a crouch again to put away the brushes and cap the jar of paint thinner. She ducks her head slightly, half-hiding her face. "The city's a fuckin' hellhole blight," she says dryly, looking up from her work. "But it's home."
Yi inclines her head to the side, watching the woman pack up painter's materials. "Do you come here often to paint on these walls?" she asks out of curiosity, as this was the first time she'd seen the woman around.
Rina lifts one shoulder, slightly awkward. "Somethin' I've been workin' on for a while," she answers. "Haven't been down here lately..." The dark eyes flicker to Jay for a moment, and then return. "Not for a long time."
"Tink it's neat," Nevada says as he takes a seat. "Adds some colla. Always so dusty an dark'n here." He leans back. "So who's gonna help me drink somma dese Cokes? Eh you guys?"
Yi slips over to the brown bag Nevada had set down on the pew and looks in. She glances up at Nevada, her eyes turning slightly to watch Rina from the side. "Would you like a Coke, Rina?" she offers as she reaches into the bag and plucks off a can.
Rina zips up the backpack. "No, thanks." She snags the jacket, and shrugs into it as she rises again, settling the leather about her shoulders with a characteristic little toss of her head. "Look, if you guys want me t'go, it's cool. Or we can do the real introductions, and hang out."
Yi turns around, Coke in hand. A quiet sigh escapes her lips before she smiles. "Are you kin?" she asks rather abruptly, testingly. With a quiet pop and hiss of air, she sits atop the pew backing, next to the bag of Coke and watches the woman.
Rina nods curtly. "Rina Vencenzo. Glasswalker kin, from Chicago. And I know Jay... are you guys both Gnawers too?"
The blond grins. "Yah... Nevada, In-Sheeps-Clothin, an Galliard. Cub ta Jay. An I tink it be cool if ya wanna hang out. Nice jacket by the way."
Rina nods, meeting the boy's eyes for a moment, measuring. Then she returns her attention to Yi, expectant.
"Song Yi Ling, Three-Blades, no-moon cliath of the Gnawers," she rolls off, used to the introduction in the English tongue now. "It is indeed nice to meet a kin. 'Hanging out' is something I'm still getting used to," she chuckles at the last bit.
Rina nods quietly, and wets her lips. "I gotta pick up some stuff, anyway. I'll be back later to work some more, if y'don't mind." She swallows, and then leans down to heft the backpack to her shoulder. "Thanks anyway, though."
Yi nods and waves. "Good bye, Rina. It was nice meeting you," she says, pausing before sipping her Coke again.
Rina nods, offering a slight smile. "Yeah, likewise. Give my regards to Elan, I haven't seen him in ages." Then she heads out, pacing through the aisle, past the three of them. Her gaze slides once to Nevada as she passes, an odd, guarded glance; she is quick to look away and walk out.
Nevada's eyes narrow slightly. He nods slowly, then smiles. "See ya lata," he calls. He'll make sure of that.
Rina opens one of the double doors at the back of the church, leaving for the streets. Rina has left.
Yi finishes the rest of her Coke rather quickly even though she was merely sipping at it before. "Thanks, Nevada," she says, partially squeezing at the empty can.
"Huh?" Nevada blinks, then glances at Yi. "Oh, yah, no problem. So what you been up to today, Fortune Cookie?"
