Forgotten Church Basement(#1279RJLM)
This basement is only partly below ground level, and there are windows evenly spaced on the walls, right below the ceiling level. The main part of it is a large open area with a small kitchen in one corner and a large, ratty carpet in the center, covering the cement floor. There is a rather large window in the kitchen; it looks as though it might actually open onto the street. On the wall opposite the kitchen is a large bin, and there are folding tables along the wall perpendicular to it. On the other wall there are a few folding chairs, many fewer than one would expect from the number of tables.
A hallway next to the kitchen leads off to two offices and what once might have been a classroom.

Sanctuary

As opposed to last night, most of the Gnawers are not here. Most of them, but Joey still is. In the half-light that seems to be around the basement, he sits against the wall, arms hugging his knees close as he stares at almost a full twelve-pack of Snapples. He taps the ash off of his cigarette, blowing smoke upwards, apparently waiting for someone.

Yi walks through the tarp upstairs, her quiet footsteps taking her down the center aisle and to the top of the stairs. Looking down into the basement, she spots the light of Joey's cig and blinks. "Joey?" Her homid eyes aren't quite adjusted to the dimness yet, but they're getting there. She descends the stairs, glancing over to the corner.

"Aye," the shorter Ragabash admits, waving his hand. Thich causes the glow from his smoke to trace lazy orange lines in the air. "My bad. Shoulda told you that I'd be down here, tonight." He shrugs it off, trying to eb nonchalant about it. "I got cold, so I stuck here.'

"It's ok," Yi replies, striding over to the corner and giving her fellow new moon an extra nod of greeting. She spies the Snapple bottles in the darkness, and smiles. "Came prepared, as always." A quiet chuckle fades from her, as she squats down to his eye level. "I would have brought some warm soup from the restaurant...but... got fired." She purses her lips slightly with disappointment, but shrugs it off. "So, I owe you one." Her line, learned from some source of media along the way, is followed by a wry grin. "How should we start?"

Joey looks more than a little surprised at the admission. "What happened," he asks, taking a unopened Snapple, handing it to her. He takes one for his own,a nd works his own magic on it, accompanied by a small popping sound as the seal breaks.

Yi watches Joey for a few, the furrows her brow as she stares at the cap of her own Snapple. Her thoughts aren't quite concentrated, however, as the memories of all her manager's loud tirade come rushing back. With a sigh, she shakes her head and twists open the cap of the Snapple instead. Here one could see her bandaged arms, wrapped almost mummy-like. A result from yesterday's encounter. "Rotem's kinfetch, appeared in my restaurant, the Tin-Yen Chop Suey. I worked part time there, to earn rent. Nevada and I still sleep at Jay's old apartment." She takes a sip. "But when Rotem came in, he was giving my boss an attitude, and lied that he was my boyfriend. I took my lunch break early, only half an hour or no more work, said my boss. I was only going to leave Rotem there, hoping one of us would be able to come in and handle him while I resumed my work, but...that didn't come out as planned. And so, I was fired."

Joey frowns a bit, sighing. "That blows," he says, plainly. "It sucks, and it isn't really fair to you and a lot of folks," he says. "Are there other places in town you can work at, if you want to?" He looks at the snapple, then back to Yi. "This the best time to be teaching you? If you all would rather wait..."

Shaking her head, Yi takes up the bottle of Snapple and drinks the rest of it, settling down into a cross-legged position. "It's ok, really. I have an idea of how to get my job back anyhow," the newmoon grins with a near invisible wink. "So, how are we going to do this. I do remember you telling Bernie about 'Mojo', but I still don't understand where the trick is..." She closes up her empty Snapple, and sets it before her.

Joey takes a breath, dashing out the butt on the floor next to him in a small shower of orange sparks. "Well, Mojo is the word I use for...like, inner magic. You know...spirit." He thinks on this again, explaining. "You tap into that. Don't force the magic up, just...touch it, scratch it behind the ears a little, wishing the cap'll open for ya."

"Wonder if this is the same kind of magic that Perrin uses," Yi muses aloud as she tries the easier-to-open bottle. Once again, her brow furrows, taking up a concentrated thought towards the cap and willing it to unscrew. The silence permeates for a bit, only the near unheard breathing of both Gnawers inhaling and exhaling. Then, Yi blinks. She pokes at the cap softly, examining it. "Maybe it moved... maybe it didn't..."

Junior steps in quietly, glancing around.

Joey shakes his head. "I asked him about that a while back," he explains. "He said what we do is...stasis magic or something. Always works the same way. he does stuff much bigger than we can, always changing stuff." He looks at the bottle in Yi's hand. "Not yet," he says. "Don't give it teh hairy eyeball so much. Just...want it, I guess. But not too much, kinda like it knows when you're trying too hard." Junior does get a wave, quietly.

Junior smiles, waving back, and heads over that way - quiet, since he sees lessons are in session.

Yi blinks and looks back who Joey is waving to, and gives Junior a greeting nod. Then, she turns back to the bottle before her and concentrates. 'But not too much', as Joey instructed, she tries the sort of technique she used around the time she went to elementary school. The kind of concentration one needs, to stare off into space while still listening to the teacher. All the focus comes down to the cap and her, as she imagines the cap unscrewing almost like she would imagine her teacher's fake headwig suddenly losing its gluey grip and falling to the floor. Her concentration is broken, when the cap turns and slides with a clink, to the floor.

Joey raises his bottle, already opened. It's only Snapple. "There ya go," he says. he reaches with a free hand, giving Yi another bottle. "Try it again, since I bet junior's thirsty."

Junior chuckles.

Yi takes the offered bottle and grins at Joey. This 'mojo' thing isn't all that hard. Still, it'll be awhile before she can get to Jedi master status. "Ok... open...open...sesame...open..." Her little trancelike state comes back for a minute or so. It's a little harder this time because of the airtight seal, but as before the cap button pops up, unscrews, and wiggles slightly to clink off the side of the bottle. "Bernie was right, this is a fun thing to practice!" Yi grins to Joey and Junior, liking this immensely. Maybe she'll try it on her new job boss' glasses screws...

Junior grins. "Teaching again, huh, Joey?" He shakes his head. "Think you're better at it than I am. Don't have the patience."

Joey chuckles, himself. "Minutes to learn, a lifetime to master," he quips. "Like this whole garou thing, all in all." He gives Yi a wink. "Wait til you meet some nice kin guy wearing a zipper on his pants, then go to town." Junior gets a shrug. "And I think I'm not strong enough with my teaching. How'd you do last night?"

Yi almost snaps her head around as Joey makes the kin remark, but the humor reaches her brain first and she laughs softly, accompanied with a little blush. Man living in America is tainting her mind a little. "Well, we'll see about the kin," she chuckles again, laughing off that dirty thought. Yi offers the now opened bottle up to Junior, and waves for him to have a seat. "Yes, how is the new cub? Stubborn like usual?" She gives the ahroun a small grin, glancing at her arm bandages. Bitter? Naaaa.

Junior shakes his head. "Not as good as I'd like. When he realized how quickly he healed up, he started thinking it was a bloody dream again. Yi left a mark on his chest, t' get him actually thinking again when he woke up. Got some into him, but wanted t' wait til he was actually paying attention before doing more." He sighs. "Came close to pounding him."

Junior takes the bottle, and smiles. "Thanks."

Junior sighs. "Dunno if I'm cut out for teaching stuff like the Litany and all. Fighting I can do - that's easy. Don't think I've got the patience t' hammer the memorization into 'em, though."

Joey wipes a hand down his face. "Well, he can fix the doors for starters," he says. "And, with some cubs, you kinda have to hammer the Litany into them," he says. he rolls his eyes upward, looking ever-so-innocent.

"Have to wonder if Jay was as stubborn," Yi murmurs thoughtfully, taking up her second bottle of snapple, the fourth bottle out of the case. Rubbing the side of it softly with her finger, she listens to the bottlecap pop without twisted assistance and grins at Joey on both accounts. "I'll have to get the wood for it... but I'm not exactly a carpenter. Think Big Dog would get even more angry if Rotem nailed on the doors, but they didn't open..."

Junior hrms. "Matt was offering money t' get real doors."

Joey nods, chuckling at that thought of unopenable doors. Junior's phrase catches him. "Yeah, that was...cool, but I felt kinda awkward, too."

Yi nods. "Yes, he left 200 dollars on the countertop. I have it kept in a safe place until I can find out how to fix the doors. It is... my fault about that. I'm going to pay him back as soon as I can." She shrugs a little uncomfortably, feeling that burden of obligation her culture teaches about gift giving and repaying people for gifts.

Junior nods. "We need t' do something nice for Matt. He's been doing stuff for us for a while now."

Yi turns back to her teacher, bowing her head respectfully to the new moon. "Thank you for teaching me about this gift," she says, holding up a half-drunken Snapple. "So now not only do I have Matt on my list to pay back, but you as well Joey. If you need a favor, or want me to teach what I know to you... ask away, na." Taking a sip of her drink, she nods in agreement with Junior. Indeed they do. Darn that Matt, so..Robin the Hood.

Joey nods slowly. "I might be asking that, Yi. There's some raggie Tricks I don't know yet. Like that one for going invivible, kinda, when ya want to." He sighs. "And Matt. Hell, I could run around for a ywar and not even feel close to paying him back for all he's done for us. the older me keeps thinking he wants something back, but I look at him now, and all I see is that the kid actually likes us, rare for a Fianna, and just wants to give us food because he knows we don't got none of our own."

Junior nods. "He's a good guy. A good friend." He hrms. "Any idea of what he'd like?"

Yi guzzles down the rest of the Snapple and puts the cap back on, setting it next to her other empty bottle. "Well I would offer to train him a little, but there is a whole...'thing'... going with the other Fianna and Gnawers it seems." Then she remembers... "Maybe getting him a newer scooter?"

Junior hmms? "Scooter?"

Joey hmmms. "Well, most of the Fianna around here don't like us. But Matt does, and luke does, and fuck the rest of them if they can't stand the smell. A...scooter would be kinda cool. Not sure what his speed is."

Yi smiles and nods enthusiastically for a little bit. "He has a gas powered scooter, he uses it to travel back and forth from the farmhouse to the city. Maybe we can get him one that does not make so much noise when it rolls around..." Her idea falls apart as she realizes that would cost at least 100 bucks minimum.

Junior hmms. "We could check Banecruncher's junkyard - maybe we could put something together. Dunno, though."

Joey hrms, frowning. "And I can only hustle so much green at one time at the Pool Hall. This is more complicated than putting a bike together, and we'd have to dig deep at Cruncher's pad."

"Hope he doesn't mind," Yi nods, the idea of building a scooter forming around a foundation of greenbacks. "But it might work." Junkyard Wars, Scooter episode.

Junior hrms. "We could give it a try, I guess. At least look around." He frowns. "Not gonna be easy, though. THink there'd be anything he'd like more?"

Yi scratches the side of her head, rolling over possible ideas. "A date with Bernie," she blurts, then covers her mouth with a quiet giggle.

Joey takes a long pull of his drink. "True. Yeah. But...would it really matter? I mean, just so long as he knows we appreciate him, a hell of a lot, I'll be happy with it." he grins. "But, hey, teaming up for the effort is not a bad idea."

"Or how about carving something into the new church door, as tribute to him for all his help?" Yi suggests. "Have his name permanently there, or at least until the next cub decides to have their Firsting in the church doorway." Junior snickers.

Joey laughs. "Ok, I think that's going a bit too far. But...whatever. so long as we do something. He's already got free access to our public places, like this one, so long as there's no Tribal Shit going around."

Yi licks her lips, and takes one last bottle for her practice of Open Seal. This time, she pops off the cap completely, sending it an inch or so into the air and flipping around before clinking to the ground and wobbling to a stop. "Well, I'll still help him out with whatever he needs, and still pay him back for his generosity." This last drink she chugs down in a flash, her throat seemingly parched or her blood lacking in sugar. Either way, she finishes the three bottles, caps them, and stands up to bring them into the basement kitchen's disposal unit.

Joey drinks from his own bottle, and since there'e enough, he pops another one. "Ok, done. So, how about you, Yi? You know that gift about turning invisible?"

Junior grins. "Damned useful thing t' know."

"I do," Yi calls roughly from the disposal, coming back out in glabro form. Have to heal up those arms of hers. "It's almost like your gift of opening things, but it helps if there are some cooperative air and light spirits." She smiles, the slightly longer and sharper teeth showing in her grin.

Joey looks up, matching her grin with one of his own. "You willing to teach, Three-Blades?"

Yi's smile turns to a nod. With a quick flick of her head, she tosses away her wily bangs from her eyes and replies gruffly, "Of course. A gift is repaid by gift. I will teach you. Anytime."

Joey nods quietly. "Agreed. But, I had too much fun teaching. Feels like that's payment enough." He turns to Junior. "Need you to do something for me," he says.

Yi nods again, yawning along with the gesture softly. Shifting, she takes up her hispo form for some more warmth and trots towards the back classrooms to sleep some more. Patrols later tonight will have to be done in lupus it seems. With a short chuff, she bids the two of them good night.

Junior hmms. "Night, Yi." He looks at Joey. "What's that?"
