The rafters are pretty well dusted now, and becoming a regular practice arena with Yi atop them. At the moment, she's above, carefully balanced on her hands, with her legs nearly arched over her head.
Rotem emerges from the basement and opens the door. He smiles as he notices Yi. "G'morning."
Yi doesn't answer the cub yet, but something from her does indicate she's heard him.
Rotem moves over to the second pew, placing a foot on the backing and using it to launch himself up towards the rafters, gripping on with his hands and pulling himself up.
Yi bends slightly as the rafters creak with discomfort of more weight upon their supports. She flips her legs back over slowly, and brings them back around to sit onto the spot her hands were at.
Rotem moves upwards and sits down, looking over to Yi. "You like the w-weather up here better?" He asks quietly.
Yi tilts her head. "Just the view," she replies with a wan smile. "You?"
Rotem shrugs softly. "I like being able to kick Jarred's ass onto the floor." He motions downwards towards the pews.
"What do you do up here? You're the one who keeps cleaning the dust off these rafters?" Yi asks with a casual dangling of her feet off the side of the beam.
Rotem nods for a moment, "Well I've been practicing." He states simply, not explaining as he rises. "To fight."
The lack of explaination doesn't seem to affect her. As he stands up she arches an eyebrow at her.
Rotem bows at the waist, hands at his sides, immitating every martial arts movie he's ever seen. "Spar?" he asks with a smile.
Yi blinks slowly at the cub. "Sure," she says with an almost indetectable nod of her head.
Rotem nods and takes a step back upon the rafter. "Homid only?" He asks, bending his knees slightly.
"Don't want to break the rafters under more weight," Yi replies, still sitting.
Rotem nods softly, "We'll keep it light. We got that rite coming up soon."
Yi gives the cub another short nod. "I'll stop if the moon feels a little strong."
Rotem doesn't reply, stepping off the rafter and jumping to the next without looking to it, used to the familiar rafters by now. "Then come get me."
Yi only gives him another arch of her eyebrow and she rises to her feet on the rafters. "The challenger wants to fight."
Rotem smiles sagely, "First one to the ground loses." He waves her over with his hand. "Come on."
Yi reaches down and slips her shoes off, dropping them onto the pew below. Then she hops over one pew closer and waits, just inside Rotem's kicking range.
Rotem doesn't go for the kick, instead he waits patiently for Yi. He keeps his knees bent, and his arms out to his sides. "Well?"
Yi lowers into a crouch, slipping back in a fluid arcing glide. Then she strikes forward, her small stature lending speed as curled fingers go for Rotem's solar plexus.
Rotem steps sideways along the rafter, moving as Yi is in the air. He keeps his knees bent as he moves, keeping his center of gravity low.
As the cub moves to the side she plants her hands down onto the rafter he's on, bringing her feet up in a twin kick for both head and kneecap.
Rotem simply keeps moving along the rafter, putting more distance between them. Waiting patiently for an opening.
Yi cartwheels toward Rotem, each foot plant closing the distance a few more inches as she again resumes her stance before him. Now on the same rafter as he is, she waits, eyes glittering with intensity borne by her birthmoon.
Rotem approaches Yi swiftly, moving just within range before running into her rugby style, hopefully tackling her. He plants his shoulder firmly and approaches quickly.
Yi falls back onto her back in a smooth movement. As Rotem approaches with shoulder first, she snaps a kick out from the side in a hook intended to catch his leg and take him off balance.
Rotem falls down upon Yi, his larger body upon hers, groaning from the kick. "Arrrg." He growls out, grabbing onto Yi's shoulders.
Yi's head comes up in a quick headbutt towards the cub's nose, a hand coming up to grip at one of his wrists and press down hard on the pressure points along the hand's tendons.
Rotem holds onto Yi with his other wrist, rolling off of the rafter and taking her with him towards the ground.
Yi does roll along with the cub, letting go of his wrist and catching the rafter. Her leg hooked around one of the cub's, she dangles him head first and growls with effort at keeping them both above the pews.
Jarred enters the church and looks up at the noise, grimacing slightly.
Rotem hangs head down from the rafter, smilling as he waves to Jarred. "So? Gonna catch me?" He asks, seemingly amused by the situation.
Jarred shrugs. "If you fall, yes. If you jump, hell no."
Rotem pages to the room: Rotem is hanging, suspended by Yi's hold only.
Rotem shakes his head. "Well then g-get your ass over here then!" he smirks, waving Jarred over.
Jarred smirks and walks over beneath the Gnawer Cub.
Yi growls some more, and locks one arm around the rafter as she pulls up the cub, reaching down to grip him by the ankle before he does slip. As Jarred moves over, she grins down at the Shadow Lord wryly, and flings the cub to him. "Thanks," she calls as she pulls herself back up the rafter above.
Rotem falls.
The Shadow Lord catches the cub deftly in his strong arms. "What else are Shadow Lords for, after all, but to catch those who fall."
Rotem wraps his arms around Jarred's neck, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "My hero." he states, in an imitating voice.
Jarred blushes and drops the boy unceremoniously to a nearby pew. "Get off me, ya crazy cub." He smirks.
"I've only worked with fishing nets before," Yi replies, sitting above. "These are my rafters, Flying Wolf," she quirks her lips up. "But they're free reign to the furry public."
Rotem snickers and lays on the pew, the 'thud' of his landing is less then gratifying. "Oww." He mumbles, looking up to Yi. "You're just lucky I've only got one eye."
"One eye, two eye, red eye, blue eye," Yi chuckles. "It'll be awhile yet before you can fight up here. Concentrate on knowing the space around you. No action without reaction." To Jarred she waves. "Lucky you, eh?"
Jarred nods grinly, though he smiles.
Rotem rolls his eyes. "I could take you Yi, b-but it is your moon, and I don't want to hurt you. T-try me after the rite."
Jarred grins. "I think you'd find that Yi has unleashed only a small fraction of her potential on you, Rotem. She has been well taught."
Yi simply chuckles and smiles at Jarred's compliment. "I'm nowhere near Sifu's potential though."
Rotem doesn't move, looking up at Yi. "Well, then she'll just have to teach me."
Jarred says "She will if you ask her nicely, perhaps."
Yi rubs the back of her neck. "I'm still way out of practice," she says quietly. "So, Jarred, what're you doing here?"
Rotem smirks, calling up louder. "Yo, Yi? Wanna teach me how do to that shifty mojo? M-might help me."
Jarred says "Here to pick up the boy. We're going to dinner. Would you like to come along too?"
Yi tilts her head at the cub. "Shifty mojo?" She hops down, landing lightly on the pew beneath and puts on her shoes. "Guess I could go for some tea," she replies to Jarred with a grin.
Rotem nods softly. "Y'know. Fighting skills. The martial arts." Rotem hops up onto his feet again. "I'm kinda eager to learn that stuff."
Yi shrugs. "As much as I know, it's nothing compared to what you can learn from the ahrouns," she says. "And sometimes it doesn't really apply. Hard to find a kicking point on a bane." Once she finishes tying her shoes, she straightens up and rubs her neck some more.
Rotem cranes his own neck, looking at Yi critically. "What is wrong with your neck? You're rubbing it all the time."
Yi pauses. "Old injuries," she says softly. "From falling off high places."
Rotem snickers and rises up off the pew as well. "Yeah, well you didn't fall off an Owl." He turns to look at Jarred, "Where are we going to eat?"
Jarred looks over to Rotem. "KFC."
Yi blinks. "KFC?" It takes her a few moments before she connects the name to the initials. "Oh."
Jarred chuckles. "I'm kidding, of course. I don't buy Wyrm-in-a-bag."
Rotem arches an eyebrow, looking to Jarred. "Why not? I want M'chicken!"
Jarred says "Then we'll go where they serve chicken, not genetic mutations that look like chicken.""
Rotem says "KFC is of the Wyrm?"
Jarred nods. "Mostly."
Yi laughs softly. "And where would that be?" She glances over to Rotem. "You'd be surprised what the Wyrm has corrupted."
Rotem growls loudly. "Then we'll burn 'em down!"
Jarred says "Notice that we said Wyrm-Tainted, not wyrm-infested. I doubt there are any banes there. It's just icky. Not worth getting the authorities in an uproar."
Yi sighs softly. "Keep the Veil, Rotem," she notes.
Rotem turns around, hands resting on his hips as he looks to the two. "So you're gonna let the Wyrm just breed?" He asks, sounding rather shocked, and at Yi's comment he snaps back, "Fight the Wyrm, where it dwells and breeds."
You say "Only thirteen laws. But complicated enough to uphold."
Jarred says "Again, Rotem... there's a difference between Taint and Infestation."
Rotem sighs. "Does Taint turn into infestation?" He asks quietly, a little calmer now.
Jarred nods. "It can. But most of the time, it takes a lot for a bane or other creatures to infest. You see it more in heavy industrial zones, power plants, dumps, sewers, and large rendering plants and places like that."
Yi nods slowly with Jarred's reply.
Rotem sighs and looks to Yi, "What packs have room for one more, and have territory around the dumps?"
Yi leans against the pew backing she stands next to. "When you pass your rite, Rotem. Territory around the dumps... I don't know," she answers. "Ring of Fire takes the west, and Troublemakers take the other side and also help patrol the park. Fenrir's Teeth hold parts of the River and the Marina.
Jarred nods with Yi. "You'll want to concentrate on passing your Rite of Passage before you look into joining a pack."
Rotem sighs and moves out the door. "Okay, then lets eat." He calls out from the church steps, his t-shirt is ripped at the shoulders, but he doesn't seem to mind the cold too much.
Jarred turns to Yi. "So much work to do..." he sighs.
Yi shrugs softly. "It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it. I guess I shouldn't wonder so much about where the Nezumi went," she says.
Yi pushes off the pews and moves to the center aisle. "So where /did/ you have in mind for dinner then? I don't have that much money you know."
Jarred raises a hand. "Don't worry about that. I thought we'd go to the Rat and Raven again. Good food..."
Yi nods. "Haven't gone in there, but sounds like it's worth a try," she notes before heading to the doors.
