John lounges easily on one of the couches dragged up from the basement. His eyes are closed, and one arm supports his head, elbow on the arm of the couch.
Yi raps sharply on the door with her knuckles, before opening the door and entering with a swift look around to scan for inhabitants. "Kaz?" Tucked under her arm is a newspaper, slightly wrinkled but otherwise still folded rather neatly.
John doesn't even open his eyes. "She's not here at the moment. Join the queue." he murmurs, loud enough to be heard from the other side of the auditorium. His eyes flick open and he stares at her. "I expect her to be back, soon."
Yi shrugs and starts her exit, but stops. That voice didn't sound very familiar.. but. She turns back around and peers. "Who...?" Her dark eyes flicker towards the voice origin, and the man across the auditorium.
The tall Walker rises to his feet and starts to walk towards her, both hands slipping into deep coat pockets. "John Smith. We met briefly at the planning for that failure of a scouting mission."
Yi furrows her brow slightly at the mention of the scouting mission. "It was not so much a failure, as a minor setback. Do you always start off conversations with talk of Garou events?" Her smile, though small is somewhat genuine.
John nods briefly. "When it's the only thing I can associate with you..." He inclines his head. "Yi?"
Yi nods in acknowledgement of the correct name. "I'm sorry I did not recognize you sooner, Icewalker." She gazes up at the man. "You've been staying here, or are just waiting for Kaz's return?" With nothing to lean against, the Gnawer contents herself with simply standing there. Her posture perhaps, is a little stiff with formality.
As John walks closer, she can start to notice red welts and markings on his neck. Teeth marks? Superficial enough that he probably doesn't know they're there. He shakes his head minutely. "I've been staying here the last few weeks. I moved myself and my cub out, now. To the Walker safe-house."
Yi from her position can notice things others may not see, along necklines or otherwise. "I see. Well, I have not seen your cub I don't think, but this sept seems to be rather popular. Do you, ah..." she tries to find the words, or maybe just tries to point out the teeth marks with a motion of her hand to her neck while looking at him. "You look like you had a rough argument with a family dog."
John blinks for a moment, then frowns. Raising a hand to his neck, and touching it, his eyes suddenly widen, and the usually impassive Walker actually blushes. Clearing his throat, he murmurs, "It's.. ah.. nothing. Shaving accident. Accidents." he grunts, still looking a little alarmed.
Yi nods in acquiese to the explaination, though those marks don't look anything like razors. "I see," she replies, despite the man's rather obvious statement. "Well..." She tries to think of a different conversation topic, despite the sidelong glances to the red marks. Maybe it's just a rough training session's result. He had a cub, yeah. That's it.
John clears his throat again, and the hand at his neck moves to roll up the collar of his trench-coat. He shifts his shoulders a little, and swallows. Also trying to change the conversation topic. "Yes. Well. So what were you looking for Kaz about?" he asks casually.
Yi ohs quietly with a ring of her mouth, as she drops the newspaper tucked under her arm into her waiting hand and brings it forward with a short tap on it. "News has been rather active, lately. Murder of a student, who was found half in half out of a sewer manhole. And a missing man. And a bleeding Jesus." She laughs quietly at the last one. "Though I might know who was behind the last miracle."
John frowns slightly, the colour from his cheeks fading. "Student have a name?" he asks, quietly.
There's a jingle of a choke-chain collar that precedes the arrival of a dusty yellow mutt. He ducks in through one of the broken windows, trotting down the auditorium aisles.
Yi flips over the newspaper, turning a page to find the article. She takes some time, reading words not coming as easily to her as speaking. "Here," she points. "Susan. Susan Anderson. Went to the university nearby, and was found dead by gunshot wound." The chokechain jangle catches her attention and she grins. There's a short whistle from her, before it briefly switches to a short trill of Jingle Bells.
John sighs, and pinches the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger. He mutters, "9mm wound. Probably found not far from the hospital, I bet." The tall Walker spares a glance for the mutt, but is attention is elsewhere. "How did she get into the /sewers/?" he murmurs.
The wolf-dog flicks a glance over the two here, before he crosses toward Yi. He brushes against her leg once, then sits down, yawning dramatically. Who's this, Fortune?
There's a thump from downstairs, and then another one, on the stairs. "The fuck," growls Kaz, finally emerging. "Who the fuck left boxes on the damn stairs?"
Yi reaches down to scritch the yellow wolf's ears. "This is John, Walks-on-Thin-Ice. Walker.. fullmoon I think it was?" She turns as Kaz's voice floats up. "Yo, Kaz." Her eyes turn down to the basement, before looking back to John. "I don't know how she ended up half inside a manhole. But that's how they found her."
John turns to face Kaz, and gestures to Yi, and the newspaper in her hand. "The girl I killed. Susan Anderson. They found her in a /manhole/." he mutters.
Kaz blinks. "The fuck? I thought you brought her to the hospital."
Hatchet's eyes turn from Kaz to John and back again. He presses his weight lightly against Yi, splaying an ear.
John nods, scowling. "Lianne hinted there might be something funny going on at the hospital..." he muses. "I think I'll check it out sooner than I thought." he adds, darkly.
Yi shrugs, and holds the newspaper. There is no picture, but the article is there. "And a missing man as well. Another possible case of our problems. But I think Bernie is the one behind the bleeding Jesus." She flips to the front page of the social section, which shows a nice snapshot.
Kaz shrugs. "Dead folks die all the time," she mutters, but brightens. "She sure the fuck is. Ain't she a star?"
Hatchet chews on Yi's pants leg. Show him the picture. He wants to see what Books has done this time.
John looks down to the Hatchet, and tilts his head. "We haven't been introduced."
Yi turns the newspaper accordingly, while chuckling and pushing Nevada's head from her pants. "It's hard to clean dog drool, you know that?" Though her question isn't really with concern.
Kaz adds, after peering at the paper, "But I dunno that dead guy. Other dead guys, I know about."
John gives the mutt a brief nod. "Thank you. It was a gift. Nice choke-chain." he returns, then looks to Yi as she speaks. Shrugging again, he gives Kaz a quick look. "Other matters, I need to talk to you about, too, Kaz."
Kaz adds, on the heels of Nevada's introduction, "Parta Trouble, too." She tilts her head at the Ragabash. "Well, sheeyit, yeah, Yi. Think we maybe oughta start basically not treatin' it as a safehouse no more?" After a moment, she adds, "Oh, Bernie did the crop circles, too." Her gaze slides to John. "Mmm?"
John rubs his chin absently as he turns to face Kaz. "The sewers on Tuesday. I need more people." he says simply.
Kaz says, "Mmm. You want whackers, or scouters?"
John shrugs. "We're only installing lights, we shouldn't have too much hassle. But we want to get further than that miserable expedition last time. So maybe a bit of both."
Speaking of scouting. Hatchet should return to patrol. The mutt scratches at one of his ears, then turns a look to Kaz. He wanted to ask you first how it went last night. The kid.
Kaz glances at Yi. "You up f'r some sewer shit?" After a moment, she adds, "An' you wanna see'f any've them healin' an' fightin' packies could come?"
Kaz grins faintly. "Good kid, her. Got the right instincts. Got her some pizza, showed her Regan Hope. I'm thinkin' maybe we can get her some better crash space soon -- she don' trust shelters, even one's as good as the Hope."
Yi grins. "Salmon's Leap will be there, either myself or another. Were you planning on going into the Umbra, or staying on this side?" she fuzzes Nevada's head some more, just because.
Kaz shakes her head, quickly. "This side. We're installin' lights, see."
Yi's grin turns a little wry. "You're bringing Rotem?" She looks from Nevada to Kaz. Evidently not knowing who they are talking about, she leaves that question to be answered later.
Kaz says, dubiously, "Not unless we wanna cull him without havin' to take the angst for it. It's fuckin' dangerous down there."
Good. Maybe we can get her runaway butt back home. The mutt licks Yi's fingers, then brushes past Kaz as he trots up the aisle. Green put the lights together. That's enough. See you later. He jingles out the way he came.
John scowls. "We saw what one of those did to Banecruncher on his own. Forget it. I'm not watching a cub's back while I try to work. And I won't have that one watching mine."
John adds, grudgingly, "But he might be useful on the surface."
The no-moon's hand tenses atop Nevada's head before she lets go. "That I can prove, having been down there... three... no four times at least. It's not a pretty sight." She looks to John. "Good to know there's another who can set up the lights besides him." Yi's eyes turn to Kaz. "Last time Sepdet called a hunt down there, we didn't get very far. But they have wards. Black tentacles. Elan's sun talen froze them, but... they didn't stay put for very long. I think they are just detectors, for the main meat of the problem."
Kaz nods. "Probably. Which is Osprey Circle. But I figure if we got strong enough lights, we don' have to worry too much about bein' picked off." To John, she adds, "I ain't takin' no cub down there, no. Not if I want 'em to survive. An' Rotem..." She pinches the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes. "Is getting one more chance."
John shrugs a little. "Rotem has yet to show me how this is to be done. I'll be getting in touch with him." He gives Kaz another sideways look, dropping his hand from his chin, and returning it to his pocket. "Leave the culling til /after/ he's been useful."
Kaz snorts softly. "Works for me." She does, though, seem somewhat more protective of the cub than she did a week ago.
Yi rolls a shoulder, folding up the paper and tucking it under her arm. "He's impatient, the cub. But he's just eager. Maybe a little too eager, but willing to do what it takes." She looks back to John. "Swing by the church, as he's usually there. I'll be asking him how to set them up. Just need a few lessons about the wires. But... maybe he might need some materials. I'll ask him." She rubs the back of her neck with the free arm and hand. "How's your pack coming, Kaz?" Change of subject coming in a blink of an eye.
John folds his arms, and watches the two Gnawers.
Kaz brightens immediately. "Aw, we're fine. Been talkin' t' Bern'n Matt about maybe joining, but they might go with Joey. But we're doin' great with the Regan area. Kickin' some Umbral butt, an' really startin' to get to /know/ th' Realm areas. We ain't done a hell of a lot of findin' information stuff, but we're still gettin' settled, basically. It's a damn good bunch we got here, lemme tell you."
Yi smiles, nodding at the good news. "That's great to hear. We've finally picked a packname, settling on Salmon's Leap. Next time I see that fish in the shadow, I'll call her 'Silverscale' I think. Maybe she'll like it. Better than 'Fishhead' anyway." She chuckles softly. "Bernie's still thinking of the Park pack, or floating around towards your direction?" She turns to John. "And I guess if you have plans for this city's problem, you must be staying around too na?"
John pauses a moment before answering. "I'm staying." he says, impassively. "For good." He sends a brief look in Kaz's direction.
The metis grins faintly. "Salmon's Leap. Works pretty good. You really need t'have a leap've faith, t'join up with a buncha Wendigo weirdos..." This is said fondly. "An' yeah, she's wantin' an exclusively park pack, but that don't look to be happenin'. Anyways. I think we're officially Trouble, my pack, an' I gotta thank Sepdet, next time I see her..." John's news actually makes Kaz blink once or twice in a subtle double take. "For good. Really? What changed y'mind?"
John swallows, and shrugs, now avoiding Kaz's eye. "People tied me down, I guess." he murmurs, looking faintly embarassed. He hunches a little, and shifts his shoulders about.
Kaz's glance travels briefly to John's neck, and then back to his face. "Tied you down, huh?"
Yi smiles over at John, knowing the feeling of not wanting to leave because of others. "They're not that weird," she laughs at Kaz. "Just... different. So it's Trouble eh? Well, Rotem doesn't need that name anyway. Has plenty of others." At
Kaz's comment, she glances sidelong to the partly concealed red 'shaving accidents' on the Walker's neck, then looks away.
Matt pushes open the door to the auditorium with a sqeak, slipping through it before it's open all the way. "Oi!" he calls. "Anyone in the mickey?"
Sophia sticks her head in the door. "Um, Kaz, is it ok if I come in?
John clears his throat, and lowers his head a little. "Metaphorically." he mutters. Colour rises to his cheeks again, and he peers at the new arrival, changhing the topic quickly with a greeting nod.
Kaz calls, "Yo!" toward Matt and Sophia, welcomingly, and grins at Yi. "Yeah. I kinda figured he could just use the other ones. An', hell, /I'm/ weird, so it ain't like I got any call to say." She says, solemnly, to John, "Of course," and leaves it at that.
Sophia hesitates, and says. "Nevermind, I'll just go hang out at the park for a while. I'll be back soon."
Kaz gives Sophia a slightly odd look, but then shrugs.
Yi glances up. "Who's that?" she motions at the almost arrived-departed. And quickly changes the motion to a wave as well. "Hey Matt."
John tilts his head, watching Sophia leave, and takes a few steps backwards towards the couch he was on earlier. A sort of retreat, almost. He looks to Matt, and says gruffly, "John Smith."
Kaz says, looking between the two, "Y'both family, so no worries."
Yi carefully avoids any other queries about John's shaving skill, while tilting her head to Matt. "What did you mean by mickey? Mickey Mouse?"
Matt looks at the girl askance as she passes back out, but wanders toward the Gnawers down front. "'allo, 'allo. Fought Oi'd be neighborly." He offers a hand to the new guy. "Pocahantas. 's'a'pleasure."
John lowers one eyebrow, and his mouth twists as he reaches to shake the offered hand. "Hello Pocahantas." he says grimly.
Yi continues her query. "When did I step into Disneyland? First Mickey Mouse, now Pocahontas?" She blinks at Matt, then at John, and wonders, no..knows, that she must've missed something. Yet again.
Sophia pokes her head in again. "Me and Sam were just gonna go play in the park, but I think it would be better... not to."
John nods firmly at Sophia. "It's getting late. I don't want you on your own when it's dark."
Kaz calls, "Yo!" again. "These all're family, so hey, we're fine."
Sophia shakes her head. "It's not the dark, it's um... well, everything is falling apart, and the flowers don't seem to know what season it is. I'd just rather play ball somewhere else. But I figured since I'm finally here, I'd stick around for a bit."
Matt shrugs. "Aye, Three-Blades. Small world an' all. Oi'd 'oped ta catch Kaz, an' 'ere Oi 'ave."
John gestures to the cub, and her dog. "Pocahontas, this is Sophia. And Samantha." he says seriously. A slight twitch in his eye, but otherwise casual.
Yi tilts her head at Matt, but then shrugs that weird 'Ok...' feeling away. Between John and Sophia's exchance, she then comes to the conclusion. "You must be John's cub, then," she nods to Sophia. "I'm Yi." She extends a hand, stiff only because of lack of use. "Pleasure to meet you."
Kaz blinks. "Catch me for what, Matt?"
Beside Sophia is a medium sized golden retriever. The dog walks up to Kaz, wagging her tail, and drops a gooey slimey tennis ball in her lap. Sophia scolds, "Samantha, put it on the floor. Nobody wants to touch a ball that's all sticky like that." Samantha obeys. Sophia then turns to Yi, extending her hand. "Nice to meet you, too, Yi."
Kaz, on the other hand, grins hugely, picks up the ball, and tosses it towards the general direction of the stage.
Samantha licks Kaz's hand, and sits with a big grin. I'm not running after it. I thought you might want it.
Yi shakes, firmly gripping the hand for a brief moment before letting go. She looks to the dog, and blinks. "She just... another cub?" The Canto-Gnawer just seems overwhelmed with so many new faces popping up.
Sophia says "No, she's my dog. She's just... a weird dog."
John shakes his head minutely. "Possibly your kin, though. We're not sure." He looks to Samantha with a scowl. "Nice if she could remember more about her parents." he mutters.
Kaz snorts in amusement. -Don't blame you,- she tells the dog in Beast Speech, -I ain't much of a fan of running either,- and shakes her head. "She's Kin, I think."
Sophia nods. "I'm almost sure she is; like I said, she's a weird dog. She... she knows more than it seems like she should."
Matt shrugs. "Joost a few pack questions. Settle me loaf a bit on the matter." He offers a wave to Sophia. "Pleasure ta meet ye. Matt Fulton. Cliath Half-moon o' the Fianna."
Yi upon thinking of cubs, stumbles up onto another thought. She turns to Kaz, shifting the newspaper tucked under arm to the other side. "Rotem thinks he's found another cub. Talked to him a couple of times at the park. I don't want to jump to conclusions or anything, so, thought I'd ask if you knew any halfmoons who could smell this sort of thing. Of course, there's always waiting for the fetch."
John shakes his head dismissively. "Only to you, Sophia." he murmurs, then looks at Matt. "Finally. John Smith, Matt Fulton. Cliath Ahroun of the Walkers. Formerly of Grey Sky Caern." He looks to Sophia, promptingly.
Kaz keeps scritching Samantha, and blinks at Matt. "Ask away, definitely." There's a brief pause, and then she asks, "You got th' people detectin' Gift, Matt?"
Sophia extends a hand to Matt now. "Sophia Gudrun. Theurge glasswalker cub. Spot, to dogs.
Matt nods to Sophia, accepting her and John's introductions. To Kaz,he shrugs. "Nah. Oi'm 'opin' ta learn some fings after the Moot next week."
Kaz says, "Awright," and glances back at Yi. "Megan. Tecmessa an' that other Fury half moon. I bet Adam's got it, but he's stuck on Bawn." She finally flops onto the couch she's been standing near, and adds, "But how old's the kid?"
Max comes clunking up the steps that lead to the side of the stage, her hair much more a tangled mess than usual and her dark eyes full of sleep, that is, until she realizes how much of a crowd is gathered in the auditorium. She immediately pulls on the bleach splotched navy blue sweatshirt she was carrying on over her head to cover her tanktop and foreseeably keeper her warm and heads over to flop on her belly near the edge of the stage, her booted feet kicking up over her knees and swinging mildly there. "Let there be 'rou."
Yi finds a handy spot to lean on, finally. "Well, think Rotem said that he was a fifth-grader. I don't know how the schools here work, though, so I do not know how old he is. But I gather he must be young. Rotem's age? What did catch my thought, was he said the kids in school avoided him. And he goes to hang out at the park. Lives downtown, somewhere." Max's clunking gets her a wave and a smirk. "Yo, Max."
John shrugs a little. "Well. I think I've discussed all I need to." he says to Kaz, giving Max a nod as she enters. The tall Walker gives Sophia a look. "Feel like 'hanging out' here, or should I take you home?"
Kaz shrugs. "Way I understand it, before first change, he'll register as human. So even if he don't register as 'Rou, we oughta keep an eye on him." And then she calls, "Yo, Maaaax!" rather loudly.
Sophia looks at John. "Well, I'd kind of like to stay and hang out for a little while, if that's ok.
John gives his cub a nod, then takes a few steps back to a couch, and seats himself.
Max winks at Yi, then furrows her brows. "5th fuckin' grade? What's that? Like three years old?" Then she glances over to John she greets him with a much too ragabash-looking grin, albeit still sleepy. Kaz's loud greeting earns her a half a snickers bar winged her way, perhaps to stop the noise.
Matt perks. "Megan knows it? Bloody great. Oi can learn it from 'er, then. 'allo, Max. Still pencils in the Decadence? Lemme know if you need any fold fer paint. OI seem ta 'ave a knack fer findin' the Jimmy Hill when it comes to doors an' lumber an' the loike."
Kaz gets bonked on the head with a Snickers bar, therefore, and falls silent. She can't quite lose the grin, though, before her gaze slews back to Matt-of-the-questions. "So I'm told, yeah..."
Sophia sits on one of the couches, feet crossed beneath her. She tells Samantha to fetch the ball, and the dog obeys, not in any hurry.
Yi grins at Max. "I don't think that young... well, not physically anyway." She looks thoughtful, before half-stifling her snicker from the Snickers bar. Mention of the Decadence gets an eyebrow, but Yi decides not to ask. She watches Samantha fetch instead.
Samantha plods along with the ball in her mouth. She drops it by Sophia and walks away. She sits on the floor near John.
Kaz's attention remains on Matt.
John eyes Max warily, then swings his legs up onto the couch, folding his arms and ducking his head. He just watches the proceedings.
Matt raises an eyebrow. "You're waitin' fer me ta spill, aren't you, Kaz?" He sighs. "All right. Oi dropped by ta see 'oo all is a part of Trouble as of now."
Kaz grins. "Well. I was kinda wonderin' what was on your mind, yeah. As f'who's in it -- me an' Max there an' Little Tim an' Nevada. 's a pretty ok bunch, y'know?"
Yi tilts her head at Matt. Packtalks get her Interest, with a capital I. She shifts the newspaper again to her other arm and pushes off the wall. "I ought to go, have some work I have to finish up. I'll see you guys around though." She calls over to Max. "And if Nevada doesn't tell me about your rite, I expect you to. I miss all these good news." She shrugs, but smiles. "No one tells me these things... and I should find Bernie. She's one of the higher ups too na. I can see it on the front page or FOX now. When Ragabash Attack."
Sophia turns to John, and tilts her head. "It seems like there was something really wrong with the fountain. Any idea what that might be?"
John shakes his head a little. "Don't know. I only walk past the park, really." He jerks a head towards the others. "Ask one'f them. Like Max." He sends Max a small half-smile, then ducks his head onto his chest again, closing his eyes... perhaps going to sleep.
Sophia says "Max? Kaz?"
Kaz breaks off her grinning at Matt, and explains, "It blew up. The City's fuckin' lazy and hasn't done shit for it."
John smiles slightly without opening his eyes. "Isn't it nice when Galliards are brief and concise." he murmurs.
Max flickers a gaze to Matt, only now realizing he's there. She puckers at him then grins lopsidedly, "Dude. You can get that shit? I's been tryin' t'find it, but s'not the easiest t'scam."
Kaz snorts. "Enjoy it, it don't happen often, that's f'sure. T'be honest, I dunno /when/ it happened, or /why/. Just that it /did/."
Sophia frowns. "That's a shame... I wonder why they don't care."
Kaz ratchets herself up from her lying position to look at Sophia. "Because. It's in the Regan area. And therefore, no one gives a shit."
Kaz doesn't sound bitter, just factual.
John frowns, too. "Because the Walkers have been far too inactive in St. Claire. I should teach you about politics." he mutters. Flicking his eyes open, he peers at Kaz. "It's not a Gnawer's job to deal with the council. Just the bums?"
Yi chuckles quietly, by the door. "If anything, maybe it's because we hang around there. What is a shame is the sewers. Never know when something might just pop up at some executive's toilet and bite him in the rear. Then they'll be sorry." She sounds like she's actually seen it happen before. "Well, I have to jet. Later," she waves again.
