Two Eagles Bluff(#3332RJ)
To the northeast, the foothills climb upwards into the steep, snow-capped crags and mountains. Here, the tall summer grasses bend in sporadic waves as the wind dances on the bluff. The evergreens and aspens give way to an open field that lends itself to a panoramic and picturesque view to the south and east. A small stream wends its way unobtrusively through the eastern edge of the mountain's crags, the scent and sound of trickling water clear on the hesitant but almost incessant breeze. Wildflowers litter the green of the grass, coloring them with touches of violet and bright oranges, yellows and blues. Tucked in along the sloped wall of the forested foothills to the northeast is a well-worn section of ground.

Stream Cave Trail

Leonard is curled up, in homid for once, sleeping next to the fire on an old blanket.

Yi walks along some invisible path that rolls itself out before her as she goes. The quiet crunch of her boot on a twig is what announces her, though it could easy be just a crackle of the fire. She approaches the sleeping figure silently, thinking to move around him on her meandering stroll.

Leonard hears the footsteps and opens his eyes, listening for a moment before sitting up, frowning. He looks around until he spies the Gnawer, then relaxes, stifling a yawn with the back of one hand before rubbing his eye with it. "Morning."

"Sleep well?" Yi queries as she stoops down to her heels beside the Wendigo. A hand comes up to pluck a blade of dry grass away from his hair and cast it into the banked fire. Herself doesn't look like she slept much really, but rested enough to have made the trip here. "No angry ghosts come to haunt you yes?" The question, isn't jokingly said.

Leonard looks at your hand curiously until he sees what you're doing, and smiles, looking down sheepishly. He smirks at the question. "No, no thanks to your friend. Why is it white people always think they have the only right answers?" He sits up fully, stretching, then scoots over on the blanket enough to give you room to sit down. "How are you feeling?"

Yi sits down, crossing her legs in front of her in a similar fashion to the Indian. "Why is it that everyone thinks only they have the right answers?" she answers question with question. "I'm fine. Just, a little tired." She gazes about at the morning wisps of mists around the cool bluff. "Not angry anymore, at least. Just accepting. Accepting, and moving on." Her eyes turn to the low fire, a little duller in their shine than usual. "What about you?"

Leonard shrugs, that furrow between his eyebrows deepening as he watches your face. "Okay. Worried about you."

Feeling the eyes of the Wendigo upon her, Yi turns her gaze from the fire to watch him. "You worry so much, you'll get early white hairs on your head," she notes quietly with a vague smile. "I'm fine, really. Just have a lot of things happening, that's all."

Leonard nods, slowly. "I know. I just... I like you. There's a light in you that I haven't seen in anyone in a long time. And I'm afraid you might be losing that light, and I don't want you to."

Yi tilts her head, inquiringly. The curious glint in her eye sparks briefly as she arches her brow at him. "What light would that be?" A characteristic half-smile she has floats around her features.

Leonard smiles back, ducking his head. "That one. You have a light heart. You make me laugh. That's not something I do much."

"I have a light heart..." Yi rolls that around in her brain for a moment. "A light heart, for the darkest of moons." She smiles more genuinely. "I like seeing you smile. And Soulcatcher smiling. When my packmates smile, I smile. It is only natural." She pokes her finger at some invisible plastic saran wrap barrier between them. "And I like a challenge. You know how hard it is to make a Wendigo smile?" Her eyes dance with a little bright light. "It's tough, I'll tell you."

Leonard purses his lips, trying not to smile and live up to the image of the fierce, non-smiling wendigo. but succeeds only in looking like he just bit into a lemon. "Well, we have a reputation to live up to."

Yi leans in, almost putting her face up to that same invisible plasticwrap. Then, she makes the exact same face that Leonard is making, give or take some exaggeration. "Looking like you bit a lemon is quite a reputation," she says solemnly. And then promptly sits back and covered her mouth with a hand to hide her snicker. "Anyway, I'm sure you Indians laugh. You just do it when no one is looking."

Leonard grins in spite of himself. "We laugh when there's something to laugh about." He sticks his tongue out at you then pauses, thoughtful. "I have something for you, but its not finished yet. Do you want it now or before you leave?"

Yi again tilts her head curiously. "A gift...?" She looks taken aback, completely unexpecting. She blinks. "What is it?"

Leonard grins at the expression on the ragabash's face and scrambles to his feet, heading for the cave. He comes back a few moments later, one hand behind his back. "Now, its not finished..." He warns, flushing visibly under his tanned skin.

Gazing after the Wendigo as he scrambles into the cave and comes out sheepish, Yi's eyebrows tilt themselves up at angles. "You told me that," she says with a smile, leaning slightly to see if she could get a peek. Her curiosity is piqued too.

Leonard kneels on the blanket, holding out the token in the palm of one hand. Resting in it on its back is a reddish-blond unfinished wood carving of a stylized bear, realistic in detail if a little rough around the edges still. It appears to be sitting up on its hind legs, and held stiffly between its paws is a many-petaled blossom that you may or may not recognize. Leonard hurriedly explains, "It still needs sanding, and I kept messing up so I kept having to work it down and it just got smaller and smaller. You could maybe hang it on a string or something and wear it around your neck if you like, you don't have to, I just wanted to make sure you had something to remember me, all of us, by. You know." He shrugs, glancing down, embarrassed.

Yi leans in close, peering at the carving before actually picking it up gently to have a closer look. She turns the carving over and around, gazing at the details of the gouges as if it were fur, and the flower in its paws. She smiles and looks up at the Wendigo. "I'll always remember you, and the pack. Not something I could easily forget. But...thank you, Little Bear. For this little bear." She glances back down at the flower, and thinks. "That's a speetlum flower, or am I just imagining it?" Her eyes flicker up to the Wendigo with a smile in them.

Leonard smiles broadly. "You remembered. Yes."

Grinning just as broadly, Yi turns the carving over again and again like she can't finish observing the workmanship. Then she leans over and hugs Leonard tightly. "I don't have anything to give you in return, Leonard... but I do promise that I will return somehow. I'll always remember you and the pack." She murmurs a soft thank you, in her native language into his ear. "Thank you."

Leonard hugs back fiercely. "You come back and we'll call it even, okay?"

The hug lasts for only a few seconds, but it seems long. "Okay," Yi agrees and detaches. She smiles with a happy sort of sigh, looking at the small carving. "I'll have to find a way to stick this on a thin rope." She smiles at Little Bear. "The size it just right for it. I wonder how you got such detail on such a small piece of wood."

Leonard smiles sheepishly. "Small knife and lots of screwing up. Its not really that hard, just takes time." he motions to the back of the bear's head. "I can probably put a hole there with an awl or something, and we could get a string from somewhere. Maybe the farmhouse."

Yi hms thoughtfully, then uses a free hand to search around in her numerous pockets. String..string.. ah. She pulls out a decent length of twine, rolled up in a neat manner. "Need to be prepared for anything, right?" she grins. "What's an 'awl'?" Not the woodworker, she is.

Leonard holds out his hands, about six inches apart. "Its a tool, sharp metal usually, kind of looks like a big needle. You use it to poke or drill holes through things like leather. Works for wood too, just slower."

Nodding, Yi takes a look at the carving, then the twine. "Guess we could, try it now?" She gazes back from the wooden little bear to the actual Little Bear. "You have one around? One of those, awls...?"

Leonard blinks. "Uh... I don't think so. I might be able to improvise one with some bone..." He stands and moves towards the cave. Disappearing within its depths, he fumbles around, the sounds of his search reaching you faintly.

Curious even more now, Yi gets up and moves along to the cave entrance, where she stops and peers in. She's only been in the cave once, for certain. Spooky stuff, especially in the Umbra. "Well you don't have to trouble yourself over it, Leonard..." she calls in as the search continues. "Sure there's some needle I could use for it too."

Leonard's muffled, "Here we go..." precedes his exit from the cave, almost knocking heads with you as he crawls out, rib bone in hand. "Whoops."

Yi blinks and draws back quickly before knocking heads together. She straightens back up and chuckles softly, before peering down at the rib bone. "A bone, against wood." She looks as if she's trying to put the concept together, and offers the carving back to Leonard for his working. The twine remains in her other hand.

Leonard straightens, brushing off his knees, and takes the carving, stuffing it into a pocket. "well, we need to sharpen it first. Its not going to be fast." He moves back towards the fire, digging around for a suitable rock. "Here we go." He brushes his hair back over one shoulder carelessly as he bends to his task. "Trick is to get a little point on the end but make it sort of...go in, almost like a little scoop." He traps the ribtip between one finger and the basaltic rock, and begins rubbing hard, turning the bone slowly. "We'll use the knife for that and to get the hole started."

Yi watches the proceedings with simple nods, eyeing the awl and the carving while the galliard works it. Fascinating, in that Spock-like manner. Except she has more of a curious arch in her brows than Spock would.

Leonard smiles. "This is gonna take awhile." He admonishes the gnawer teasingly. "Told you it wasn't done yet. I promise it'll be finished before you leave, though."

Yi nods with a little curt movement. "I'll come back soon, then. But for now I have to go back to the city. We're having a moot in the evening, so there's things to prepare, na?" She glances up to the Wendigo. "Thank you, again. I won't say my goodbyes yet because, well... I'll be back tomorrow." She grins.

Leonard looks up from his work to flash her a brief smile. "Good. Its good to see you smiling again."

Yi gets up to hug Leonard again, careful not to squish any sort of pointy needle like objects while she hugs. "And it's good to see -you- smile, Lemonhead." She chuckles and almost dances away before he could jab any sort of pointy end into her. She's still grinning.

Leonard laughs at the nickname as she squeezes, careful of said pointy things, and gives the Cantognawer an amused, if quizzical look. "Lemonhead?"

Yi snickers. "I'll bring you some, tomorrow. They're pretty good, if a bit sour on the outside, sweet on the inside." She grins again and starts off, spinning about to wave. "See you around, Little Bear."

Leonard smirks at that, and gives her a nod and a brief wave, going back to his sharpening. He shakes his head, smirking. "Lemonhead. Hmph."
