Porch
A lathe-turned wooden railing runs the length of the porch save where the steps are, well-worn with use. To the right of the stairs, a wide swing is suspended from the overhang which shelters this area; to the left, a small table is the centerpiece for several chairs pulled around it, all of which face out to the front yard and the fields and trees beyond. The entire area holds an atmosphere of peace and comfort during these summer days, lending itself well to evening reading, small talk, or just watching the stars. Low shrubs snuggle up to the porch held back by the railing, their flowers filling the air with the sweet scent of greenery.
An aging screen door newly refurbished stands between the heavy inner door of the house and the outside air. Four steps lead down to the lane, a number of pots with small flower seedling carefully arranged alongside them.

Raeye
Obvious exits:
Front Door Lane

Raeye is lounging idly on the porch swing, one leg slung up near her chin, sketchbook on the swing that she riffles through.

Yi approaches from the barnyard, wiping off some sweat from a run and workout. Seeing Raeye upon the porch she stops to nod a greeting, eyebrow arched at the sketchbook with curiosity.

A dark, wolf-like figure had been lurking over by the barn, quickly darting inside the half-open doors and reappearing on two legs. Her laughter far proceeding her, Lyra runs up to the porch, breathless, and well aware that Adrian would be close at her heels. "Look, people," she gasps, although it's doubtful anybody heard or understood.

Adrian walks up from the woods. He's all smiles.

Raeye gives a slight nod of recognition to Yi, the trace of a greeting grin. She arches a brow at Lyra's comment, then shifts her gaze from the philodox to Adrian, and back again, questioningly.

Adrian looks around, "What did I miss?'

Yi turns around soon as she hears footsteps, her puzzled look not quite disappearing at Lyra's breathlessness. "Mm?" She pauses, looking at her philocub up and down. "Lyra. What's wrong?" When Adrian comes up, she nods once at the Get cub.

Smiling, Lyra half-collapses, half-sits on the last stair of the porch, body turned to look up at the two cliaths. "Nothing's...wrong, elder sister," she pants. Yes, definitely a philocub in need of a more strenuous workout. "Just...looking, for some elders. Found some." She grins and waves at Raeye. "Hello again, remember us?"

Raeye flips gently through her book, and props it up to show some penciled renditions of the two cubs present, Lyra in her wolf form. "Helps me remember names," she says simply, her grin still slight but present. "What do you guys need?" She glances now to Yi with a question still present in her brow.

Yi on the other hand, has to flip that question to Lyra. "Looking for elders?" The intonation of the question implies a 'what for?'

Adrian looks at the older Garou, "Well, Lyra has challenged me for Alpha of Gaia's Own. I need some elders to witness the terms."

Lyra cants her head, looking like she's about to praise Raeye on her art- because it's really good -but Adrian's explanation stops her for a moment. She nods, wordlessly affirming what he said.

[Raeye's (homid) desc
She has the air of a feline waiting out its prey, calm but unceasingly alert, as ready as sheathed claws. Her movements appear premeditated, every action and word chosen long in advance to when they're carried out. These habits mixed with her appearance suggest an age ranging from mid adolescence to mid twenties.
Built like a mongoose, her 5'4" frame is thin and wiry, covered entirely in an ensemble of black, starting with a slightly worn black leather collar around her neck. Her anti-fashion, who-gives-a-shit attire consists of sole-worn sneakers, jeans, and a t-shirt that reads "PHUCT" in small white letters in the center, sometimes accompanied by a logoless black jacket.
A casual glance may mistake her for some grunge-goth typecast, especially with the Eye of Horus tattooed around her right eye. That aside, her features are, overall, nondescript -- chin-length black hair, pale unblemished face, thin lips set either in an expressionless line or quirked in a smirk -- it's her eyes that mark her odd one out. With the black of the tattoo accenting them, the feral glint in her kiwi, frozen-grape green eyes is emphasized. Her gaze is serpentine, scanning in a manner that suggests that she's taking in much more than she's giving out.]

Raeye shuts the book and swings her leg around, so that she's leaning forward. Her eyes run over the two cubs as though weighing their worth, but only tilts her head and nods once. "All right."

Yi browfurrows, but once the challenge is said and accepted, well. The ragabash nods, glancing once at Raeye. Then her eyes go back to Adrian. "What's your conditions?" Adrian thinks a bit, "Well, fight to the death is right out." He smiles. He's not making fun of the challenge, just being good natured, "How about, the first one who can speak to each pack's Alpha here and get some advice on leading the Pack. First one to come to one or both of you with this info succeeds."

Lyra puts one arm on the next step, chin in the palm as she looks over at Adrian with a surprised little smile. "I -like- that challenge, a lot!" she exclaims, glancing up at Yi and Raeye to see what they think of it.

One of Raeye's brows slide upward again, then smooths back down just as quickly in a serpentine motion. Her lips thin together before they part to comment, calmly, "I'm just here to witness." There's a wry grin on her face. "To clarify, this would be an contest of who can collect information on being a leader and depositing this information to either Yi or I?"

Adrian nods, "Yeah, that's it. I think it is a good Challenge, no violence."

Yi glances over at Raeye's comment on the terms of the challenge. The Gnawer ragabash, though, quirks her lip in a half-smile and nods. "It sounds like a good, helpful challenge. I like it." She holds up a finger in brief, additive note. "However, I would like to suggest one More condition." She glances at Adrian and Lyra. "That instead of telling Raeye or me, only, that you also arrange a time with Garou elders and other cubs around. Then, you relate these pieces of advice you have gotten from the mouths of the pack leaders."

Adrian nods a bit, "I like that." He looks to Lyra, "Is that ok with you?"

Raeye glances away for a moment, mulling over Yi's suggestion. "Perhaps why you believe it's a good or bad piece of advice, as well," she murmurs quietly, though audibly. She nods in agreement to the ragabash.

Lyra nods to Adrian, smiling still. "And Quentin thought you'd try to beat me up," she teases. At Yi's suggestion, she looks over to the nomoon, expression getting thoughtful. "Um...if we did that, it wouldn't be a 'race' then. Maybe we could talk at the next moot, and have someone judge which one of us learned more?" She taps her fingers against the side of her face, thinking. "Then whoever learned better will be Alpha. And that'll be good."

Adrian shakes his head. "Are you kidding me? If Salem-rhya, for example, were to give me advice, I'm sure as hell not to say it's bad advice. Ya want Lyra or I killed?"

Raeye snorts at Adrian, the quirk on her lips suggesting amusement. "More important than learning how to recite words, Adrian, is learning what weight they hold. Some people can give an empty speech full of pretty words." It's more of an offer of advice than an admonishment.

The approach of the motorcycle is heard first, then seen, a flicker of light through roadside trees. The single headlight turns down the lane to the farm, and the bike comes almost to the porch steps before Chaser parks it.

Adrian nods, "OK, I do like the Moot idea. Hopefully I can make this next one."

Yi waves off the notion. "No. This should not be a race. This is a challenge amongst cubs, but a challenge all the same. If it were up to a race, I would simply say first one to the fields and back wins. But this is a challenge to learn from, for the both of you." The ragabash thinks a little, lips pursing. "I am not any Master of the Challenge, so I back that you go with the idea of speaking of what a pack leader is to be at the next moot. It will be even better if the pack leaders are present to here the words that they have said."

Chaser strips off the gloves with her teeth, and rakes one hand back through her tankgled hair as she climbs the steps. Her smile is thin. "Hey, look. Some of my fav'rite people."

Lyra's arms wrap about her loosely as she watches someone new, on a bike no less, approach the porch. Was she familiar? That question aside, she nods to Yi and Adrian. "I missed the last few too, never got to introduce myself to the Sept," the halfmoon murmurs ruefully. She smiles at the new woman, though.

Adrian nods, "Yeah, I like that." He looks over at Chaser and smiles a bit. He looks over to Lyra, "All right Lyra. Your Challenge to me as Alpha of Gaia's Own is accepted. The terms are set and at the next Moot we'll let the Master of Challenge decide."

Raeye momentarily gets distracted by the motorcycle which heralds Chaser's arrival. A slight jerk up of the chin to the Get woman, expression sobering slightly. "How's searching?" she asks.

Yi looks over as Chaser pulls up and comes. She nods her head once respectfully to the Get ragabash, before gazing back to Adrian and Lyra and smirking. "This way, the Garou will also have a feeling of what is it their cubs are learning."

Aubrey comes out the front door as she hears voices outside. Some of them are more recognizable than others. She rubs her eyes, blinking them rid of sleep. "Good evening," she mumbles.

Owen makes his way out the door, a Dixie cup of tap water in his hand. He lets the door slam shut behind him. He gives those here a cursory look-over before grunting a greeting before pulling a chair from the table and flumping down in it, resting his feet up on the porch railing.

Lyra pulls her knees to her chest, leaning back against the stair railing and smiling at Adrian. "See, and this'll be a -great- way to show them that a cub pack could be a really good thing." The ever idealist. Aubrey's arrival earns the Fianna a happy grin and wave, which ends up bestowed on Owen as well when he...appears. At his apprently grumpy mood, the Gnawer cub looks to Yi with a quizzical glance.

Chaser raises both eyebrows, bemused, and gives Adrian an odd look. "Someone Rite you when I wasn't lookin'?" Ironic, that Owen should walk out at just that moment. She slits green eyes at him. "Owen?"

Asking the question over Lyra's murmur, Chaser apparently misses it.

Adrian stands up even straighter when he sees Owen and Chaser both present. Something in him shifts to those who were present before the older Gets arrivals. He seems colder now, more serious. "Not Rited, Chaser-rhya. I got challenged as Alpha of the cub pack by Lyra."

Raeye's mouth tenses slightly at the repeated mention of 'cub pack,' but twists her lips into a mild smile. "Proof that you're drawing closer to being ready for your Rite," she says to both Lyra and Adrian, in agreement with Yi. The book sitting beside her gets swept up and placed protectively on her lap.

Chaser answers Raeye's question with a look, and a wrinkling of her nose. "Jack and shit," she murmurs, making her frustration clear with a quiet growl.

Owen leans back in his chair, his left arm now craddled behind his head. "T'ain't ready yet, Chaser. And if someone else went and Rited him, then we need to collectively break our feet off in someone's ass."

Yi explains a little more, after nodding at Owen and Aubrey as well, "So the challenge terms has come to speaking to all the leaders of the packs here. Then at the next moot, these two will tell what they have learned, and the challenge is decided then."

Adrian nods to Yi and smiles a bit to Lyra, though not as playful as earlier.

Lyra wriggles her nose a la Bewitched at Raeye. "I'm not anywhere near being ready to be Rited," she says softly, one hand plucking at the fabric of her overall-skirt. "I...er, well. I'm not a good enough Gnawer. Not yet." At the mention of her name, she looks around and half-salutes at Chaser. I'm Lyra. I Challenged. I need to wash this pink sweater...

Aubrey seems to try to sort people's conversations from one to the other as she looks to those gathered around the porch. "When has this place become a gathering place again?" she asks, looking curious. Then she waves to Lyra with a smile.

Chaser makes her way to the door and answers, over her shoulder, "Since I need a beer." Then she disappears inside, briefly.

Yi looks after Chaser, but then turns back to Lyra. "You'll be ready." There's a certain tone of conviction in there. "And Aiyana, as well."

Raeye grins at Aubrey. "When the Dancers ran away." She then tilts her head at Lyra's comments. "Maybe it's the believing in how ready you are part that needs some thinking." With that, she gets to her feet, book in hand. A deferential nod to the group of Garou, a word of seeing the two cubs at the next moot and good luck, and she's off.

Adrian looks at Owen, "When I'm ready, Owen-rhya, what happens then?" he sits on teh stairs, unconciously in a position of submission to Owen.

Lyra still doesn't look so sure, even after Raeye and Yi's comments on it. "I'll be ready eventually," is her compromised answer. She plucks a bit of leaf off the hem of her skirt, shifting a bit so that Adrian has more room. Yi gets a wondering glance. "I know I used to say I wanted to learn fast, and get Rited quickly...but I think I want to do things slowly, now. I want to make sure I understand -everything-." The last word is accentuated with a gesture of both hands, opening outward and encompassing the world.

Owen looks over at Adrian for a moment. "Once we deem you have learned what a ccub should and are ready to stand as a Cliath, we test you to see if you truly have taken what you have learned to heart. Prove your purpose in your auspice. Show that you are deserving to stand in the graces of Fenris."

Chaser comes out through the screen door, a Sam Adams in her hand. "Owen, here, stands in Unicorn's good graces," she says dryly.

Aubrey folds her arms across her waist. The Fianna quietly listens before she slips back into the house, probably heading towards the back door off to the bawn.

Yi glances at Owen, then at Adrian, and finally back to Lyra again. She tilts her head towards the fostern ahroun and smiles at the easygoing cub. "(What he said,)" she tops off as a note and squeezes the young philocub's shoulder. "But remember that being a cub for too long can be just as damaging." Yi takes her hand off Lyra's shoulder.

Adrian nods, "I just wish I knew what was expected of me, what I needed to know to pass so I could work harder." He isn't whining, it sounds almosr as if he wishes to make a form of attack or study. He leans against the railing of the stairs and thinks quietly.

Lyra blinks up at the Gnawer ragabash. "(It can be damaging?)" she echoes, waving around Yi as Aubrey slips away. "(Usually, the longer I study for a test, the better I do.)"

Yi nods, a more solemn look to her features. "Sure. Just as you can study -too- much. You'll memorize the details, but miss the idea that you were supposed to learn. And some things... you just can't learn being a cub."

Owen just nods at Chaser's statement. "The pack is everything." He takes a drink of his water. "Adrian, I could order you around. I could cram books into yer head, physically if need be. In the end, you're the one to figger it all out."

Chaser finds herself a quiet spot of porch rail, sitting on it and sipping at her beer. She is silent for a time, her face set in its usual grim, hard lines, the narrowed green eyes resting on Owen.

Lyra grimaces, elbows on knees and chin in palms. This was a girl who studied for days ahead of a calculus exam. Being told some things would just click, and click when they wanted, was a new notion. But she'll accept it...not much choice. "I don't want to be Rited until I've really done something with Gaia's Own, though," she says softly, but determinedly. "I think this pack is one of the most important things I've participated in. Ever. I don't want to just leave it unfinished." She sneaks a smile over at Adrian. "And it was all his idea, too."

Chaser raises an eyebrow, and gtlances over to Adrian. She doesn't say anything--just smiles faintly, and drinks some beer.

Yi returns the smile, though faint. "Well it is a good way to learn. Experience can be a great teacher." The smile fades a little more, as she fails to add 'and also a harsh one'. The ragabash though, forces a bit more of the smile out. "Well, guess I should go warn Sepdet about you guys coming then. I'll see you around and back in the city."

The philocub bites her lip at the mention of the city, visions of Yi opening the door to the apartment dancing in her head. "Okay (elder sister)," Lyra murmurs, scooting a bit out of the way so that Yi can head down the stairs if she likes. "I can come visit you, if that's okay...the house is a mess." True enough.

Adrian looks up at Owen, "No thanks, I don't want to eat books, Owen-rhya" He smiles a bit.

Yi pauses when she's down the steps, turning to the halfmoon cub. She thinks for a bit, and then nods. "Sure. But the apartment's a mess too, so I guess that will give me a bit of time to clean up eh?" She smiles a bit more fully, and then gives Lyra a wink. "Don't stay out too long." After that, she's off and trotting down the trail that Raeye took earlier.
