Jermantown Avenue, Industrial Sector
From warehouses a few blocks away from the river, across a chunk of city more than a dozen blocks wide, factories brood over the streets like dark dragons over their piles of treasure, greedy and all-encompassing. Huddling around the factories are smaller, less imposing buildings that are probably warehouses, or storage locations for trucks. The factories spill fumes into the air, darkening the area and blanketing it in a stench to mark humankind's domination over the world. Some of the warehouses stand empty, some are boarded over, and some, on the northern and western fringes of the area, have been converted to bars, with bizarre lighting, frequent brawls, and music that blares loudly at all hours of the night. There are no residences here for anyone to complain, and the factory workers populate the bars thickly. Throughout the area, trash and oil mingle together on alleyway streets, impeding the paths to the dumpsters at the ends of many of the alleys.
Obvious exits:
Filthy Alley East West
Trying to walk along and hide her limp in her right leg, Yi is taking the time to check out the Gnawers' marked hideout. 319 Finch St. is right on the outskirts of the nighttime populated bars, though this one building seems to be closed in the day. Regardless, the ragabash pulls her hood around her head and keeps a ducked down, furtive posture.
Yi isn't the only hooded person venturing down the street it seems. Another figure wearing a zipped up hoodie briskly walks down the street, hands tucked in their pockets as she glances from side to side. While it's a little difficult to tell, judging by the way they walk the person's either female or a very effiminate male. Most like female though. Pausing occasionally to look for addresses on the buildings, the girl seems to be searching for something.
Yi remains a good distance from the building itself, staking it out for now. From her pocket she pulls out a handheld notepad, along with a pen and flips it open to write notes in it. Leaning against the neighboring building's edge, she spares a brief glance at the hooded figure.
Aiyana stops after a bit more searching and huffs to herself, shaking her head in frustration. Spotting some concrete steps nearby she walks over to them and sits down, eyes squinted and peering out from under the shadowy covering of the hood, while she mutters to herself about what to do next. She hasn't noticed anyone else in the area, either that or she just doesn't seem to care at the moment.
Yi continues to write notes, seeing the figure sit down. What she doesn't notice is the face. A moment of wanting to adjust the set of her own jacket straighter, she pushes her cover back and turns her face skyward. Hm. A nice day out today. Pity her leg is still healing, else she'd be up on the roof of this very building she's scouting out.
Aiyana finally lets out a sigh and decides to take a break, pushing the hood back away from her face and unzipping the jacket part in order to remove it. Taking it by the sleeves she stands up long enough to tie it around her waist before sitting back down again, when her eyes spot something in the distance. Squinting in hopes of getting a better look, the Ahroun's face lights up once she recognizes who the person is. A grin spreads across her lips and she hops up to her feet, walking in Yi's direction to greet the other woman.
[look Aiyana]
A girl in her mid to late teens, around 5'6" in height and of slightly muscular build. She appears to be of Hispanic/Italian/African heritage, judging by her facial features. That mixed blood represents itself in the color of her skin, which happens to be almost caramelish in hue. The color of her eyes are a mix of amber with chocolate brown flecks scattered about in them. Her right eyebrow is pierced with a single metal hoop, as are both earlobes. Her tongue is pierced as well, decorated with a solid metal stud right through it. Some things are a little different about her now, such as her clothes and the aura she gives off. While not aggressive, she tends to have a 'you really don't want to mess with me' vibe going on around her, but still manages to keep a friendly, warm look in her eyes. She wears her dark brown hair, which is about mid-back length, done up in hundreds of pencil-thick braids that are normally held in place with a plain black scrunchie. A white bandana's been tied around her forehead.
Her clothes are nothing fancy, and look fairly beat up. She wears a pair of torn, ripped and faded black jeans, with a black belt to hold them up. It doesn't quite work, as the waistline of the grey boxers she has on underneath the jeans is quite visible. A red hooded sweatshirt is worn, unzipped, over an extra large football-style jersey, colored red, grey, and black. '00' is displayed on the jersey in big, white embroidered numbers, standing out against the darker fabric surrounding it. Her shoes are just a regular old pair of black worn in sneakers. Nothing fancy.
Yi isn't so out of it as to notice that she's got someone on the approach. Looking back down to earth, her eyes focus on the ahroun. An ever so brief passing of 'huh?' crosses her face, and then the brain circuits kick in. The ragabash's face also brightens and she lifts her hand with pen, waving it. With a slight notion of her head, she makes her way to a part of the sidewalk that's more off to the side.
Aiyana waves back, grin widening and she breaks into a slight jog while heading for the suggested meeting area. Once she's there she looks as if she's about to give a hug, but instead offers a friendly expression and a tilt of her head. "Yo. Long time definately no see, sis. Glad to see those fuzzballs didn't kill ya, right?" She winks, remembering the story she heard the other day. "How've you been?"
Yi bears a look of surprise when Aiyana mentions the spirits. "Where did you..." she cuts off, a heavy throb of her hidden bandaged leg shooting up. "I've been whole - for the most part. But you-- when did you return?" She smiles warmly, in rare expression. "I wondered where you had gone. One would think the Gnawers travel more often than the Striders here." Her words are carefully moderated, to discourage eavesdroppers.
Aiyana chuckles and gives a shrug of her shoulders, hands turned palms up. "A little birdie told me. Nah, I stopped at the farmhouse, and...Trevor, I think it was, yeah, told me about your guys' little adventure. I gotta admit, I'm jealous I missed out on all of the fun," she adds, smiling. "Good t'see you're doin' well, though. He looked like he'd met the business end of a steamroller." She pauses, then shrugs again, "Got back into town the other day. Olga filled me in on a bit of stuff, I became babysitter to a couple of new recruits, and now I'm here to hunt down what may or may not be our new crashin' spot. I had to run down to LA to help out an old friend get his ass outta trouble." The Ahroun pauses, the faintest of blush creeping into her cheeks as she holds up a hand and shakes it. "It ain't nothin' like that, though. Gaia knows I already had Olga grill me on that subject."
Yi arches her eyebrow in a suspicious curve. "Oh?" But she puts that subject aside. "Trevor did indeed get chewed out. I couldn't help but think that maybe we should have worked back to back instead of going in different directions." She nods at the building of the prospective hideout. "Who do you mean the new recruits?"
Aiyana blushes even more and shakes her head, rolling her eyes a bit but she's still smiling. "Yeah, poor guy looked bad, but I'm sure he'll be back on his feet in no time. Least he still seems to have a sense of humor, though. Means he's not gonna get all mopey and stuff. Last thing the Sept needs now is to lose someone to depression. Ugh." Glancing over at the building to get a quick judge of it, she turns back to Yi and hmms softly. "The new kids. Ah, dang. Met one the other night, but I can't think of their names. Todd and...Joey? Yeah, sounds about right."
Yi ahs and nods. "Yes, those two." Depression? Heh, well, if Aiyana had but seen Yi not too long ago. She smiles wanly, remembering. "It's good to see you back. A lot of the older faces have been disappearing. And I take it you might have a go at watching Squeaker?"
Aiyana chuckles softly. "Good to be home. Less bullets and crazy folk after my ass," she admits. "Couldn't exactly take care of business the standard way, so I had to do it like any other normal person might. That was a rush. And I'd be glad to watch the little pup. Need to give her a refresher course on manners anyhow, I'm sure. How's she been, ever since movin' her out to the farm?"
Yi winces, but not with the pain of physical wound. "She lacks discipline, and knows little about the way our family works. But perhaps I expect too much from such a young mind. Still." The hand holding the notepad squeezes. "Mm, well. Good you are back. You can help teach Todd and Joey about fighting in a... quicker way." She smiles again, looking to the building. "While there are not that many bullets to fly our way here, there are plenty of other things. Especially in the shadows. I have a feeling this place is going to need some cleaning."
Aiyana hmms a bit. "Yeah, sounds like she's gone back to her old ways. That oughta be a ball to deal with," she idly comments, quirking a brow. "Fightin'? I'd be more than glad to. It'll give me a chance to work the rust outta my system, and in the same turn help out the next generation. Sounds good to me." Her eyes trail to the building again and she frowns, just a little, "Yeah. Not the best of hoods, but then, home is home. Need any help clearin' out the place? I've got some time on my hands to deal with, and better fill 'em with family matters than bein' lazy and sleepin' all day."
Yi nods slowly, pondering the building and what it must be like in the Shadow. "Maybe a quick scouting soon, before the moon is too thin to be safe," she murmurs, before gazing back to the ahroun. "And we will always need Guardians. This recent moot, there have been too many bad things crossing the line."
"After all, the freaks -do- come out at night," Aiyana mutters. "Sorry to hear I missed a Moot. Gonna have to be at the next one, for sure. I just hope all of these nasty things ain't a sign that the place is about to be slammed by...-them- again," she hisses, her eyes narrowing for a second. "That's the last thing this place needs, y'know? But about this Guardian thing, what all's that about?"
"Hm? Oh. Well, Seeker had wanted to form a pack, to be watchers over the territory. But, being a Guardian means your duty is to stay there. For us, that would mean little coming and going to the city." Yi explains, her notepad flipped to a close. "Our monthly rotation is also not running smoothly, I believe. Our defenders, too few, even if Crescent Wing and Scourge keep themselves close by."
Aiyana nods, "Sounds like a rough job, specially the not visitin' the city much part. Though I do need to get my lazy ass into a pack one of these days and put myself to good use, y'know?" She manages a grin, then shoves her hands into her pockets. "But if I can do anythin' to help, let me know, all right? I need to start actin' like a Cliath and not a cub. Lay down some responsibilites and stuff, help out the family more."
Yi hms then. "Scourge still needs members," she hints rather obviously. "You can ask Jamethon about it. I feel that you under Wyvern would be a good match." The ragabash looks directly at the ahroun, a smile playing her expression.
Aiyana lifts her brows, looking slightly interested. "Really? I'll have to hunt around for 'em then, also see if any other packs might need a new member. Gotta have options, right? But I gotta know, what's that look for? Are you sayin' Wyvern and I are some kinda psychos? Is there somethin' about that totem I should know, sis?" Taking a hand out of her pocket she places it on her hip instead, getting a mock look of offense on her face.
Yi shakes her head. "No no, not like that. Scourge has a great spirit, and one who is fierce and strong to fight our enemies with. I simply meant, you are looking for things to do. Wyvern guides his pack to find things and return them to Gaia." A lot is implied in that last statement.
"Ah, sounds...interestin'. Y'mean like, findin' fetishes and lost cubs and stuff like that? Sounds like it could be fun. Well, not fun, but, y'know, somethin' to keep me busy with. So all my time doesn't go to waste," Aiyana replies, wrinkling her nose as she attempts to word what she's trying to say properly.
"Not just that. Finding what is of the Wyrm, and returning -that- to Gaia is included," Yi says, a half-smirk, half-smile lighting on her features. "While you won't be tied down by territory, either."
Aiyana grins wickedly. "Oh yeah, now that's somethin' I could get into. My kinda line of work. Aside from bein' a bouncer, but how many family members d'you know what own night clubs?" she asks, laughing. "Though that would be kinda cool..." Shaking the thought out of her head, the Ahroun shifts her weight, then nods. "I do like the sound of it, though. If you see Jamethon before me, give 'em a mention, okay?"
Yi nods firmly, ignoring the crinkle of pain that comes with the action. "I will." Eeeexcellent. "He should be pleased to hear it." The raggie then looks back to the building. "You think -- tonight, tomorrow -- we should see what this place is about, on the other side."
Aiyana smiles at that, then nods in response to Yi's question. "Sooner the better, after all. In case we do get the place here, we can't let cubs go wanderin' about in some spooky old buildin' that might taint 'em. That's the last thing we need. Though, y'think we'll need more people? I mean, how bad do you guess it is over there? A couple of banes, or full out evil?" She keeps her voice low, just in case.
Yi eyes the vicinity as well, though in a cool manner. "Not sure," she replies lowly. "Which is why I was thinking of scouting it. This city's shadow has grown very dangerous, though, and maybe we will need more people. I hope to heal my leg quickly, but it may not be in time. If that is so, next moon maybe. Have any ideas?"
Aiyana hrms and rubs the back of her neck. "Scoutin' first, then maimin'. Best to know what you're about to dive into before bad shit goes down, after all. I mean, takin' a quick peek shouldn't be -too- dangerous, but y'never know. As for ideas, none honestly. I'm not really the sneaky type. I just hit things," she answers, trying to hide the devious expression that's creeping onto her face.
Yi chuckles at that, seeing the eagerness of the ahroun. "I meant, for people to find. Maybe the new Walkers who have come. There was one, an ahroun I believe. He fought well at the Revel." The ragabash looks thoughtful. "Then again, scouts first." Her mind runs through the ragabash she knows of. And theurges. Shrugging, Yi places the notepad back into the pocket it came from. "It will be a bit of work, trying to clear this place."
"Hey, I have no idea who most of the people are anymore," Aiyana says with a wry smirk. "But why not just snag several people, maybe some Raggies, and a couple of Ahroun to back 'em up should things get rough? Never hurts to come well prepared. Maybe even a Theurge, if we can find a spare one, just in case someone needs a healin'. Don't wanna lose any people on something that's supposed to be simple, like a scoutin' mission, y'know?"
Yi casts a knowing glance at the ahroun. "As expected from an ahroun. Battle strategy." She grins, lifting a hand to place on the shoulder. "Mm, then, I leave it to you yes? I will look for no-moons, and you look for backup."
Aiyana's eyes widen and before she can stop herself, she's stammering and looking a bit panicked. "Battle s--no! It was just ideas! Hell, I haven't even been in enough battles to be considered a real Ahroun!" the girl exclaims, trying to figure out how she got herself into this one. "I, aw crap. I ain't gettin' outta this one, huh?" she finally comments, smiling and running a hand through her hair. "That's what I get for actually thinkin' for once."
Yi purses her lips and quickly looks about when the girl blurts out 'ahroun' audibly to passerbys. Good thing they're off to one side, with no real spies around. "Hey, I ran your test, and you passed it. This is what you get for your good grades," she comments, her pouted expression widening to a smile. "I have confidence in you, Aiyana."
Aiyana sighs, but she's still smiling, and she doesn't seen to be too upset about the whole ordeal. "A'ight, a'ight. I'll do my best. Boy, who'd think that anyone would put -me- in charge of anything?" she wonders, boggling at the concept. "It's a sad state of affairs when people gotta rely on me to do stuff."
Yi psshts, nudging the ahroun. "The day the Gnawers can't rely on their own is the day we should crawl into our holes and wait for the Apocalypse. This will give you the opportunity to show your true skills! As Megan and the rest of Resonance said to me the other night, 'Brag about yourself and stop being so down.' I take their advice to heart."
Aiyana mms. "Well, I do need to work on those leader skills, I guess. Stop bein' such a baby and waitin' for others to hold my hand and walk me through everythin'," she answers, mulling over the idea. "Just hope I don't screw up, y'know? Last thing I want on my head is the thought of me leadin' a buncha people to their deaths, and goin' down in history as the one who royally screwed up."
Yi once again purses her lips. Then, in careful aim, swipes a fist at Aiyana's shoulder.
Aiyana yelps and hops back out of the way, her eyes wide and her hands raised in defense. "What was that for? Y'know, for someone who's injured, you sure are pretty fiesty!" The Ahroun keeps a careful eye on the other woman as she goes to move back to her place again.
Yi straightens back up to a calm, collected self. She looks happy that the ahroun dodged her attack. "That, was for doubting yourself and others. Don't think that everyone you find is going to be a complete idiot and get themselves killed, and neither are you going to get us killed. Besides, I'm almost finished healing." She hops lightly in place, but grits her jaw together on landing. "You see? Be fine in no time."
Aiyana hmphs, but she's smiling. "Yeah, suppose I did deserve that. And I hate to see what you're gonna be like once you're up to full health again. I won't get a moment's rest with you around!" she jokes rubbing her shoulder like she'd actually been hit there.
Yi laughs softly at the ahroun's words. "I'll be as troublesome as ever," the ragabash admits. "But come. I haven't begun to plan out what to bring the cubs for dinner. Maybe you can help me decide, mm?"
Aiyana smirks, "That's an understatement. Yeah, though, I'll join ya. And if they're good, Gnawer cubs, they'll eat anythin' you give 'em. I know I was, and still am like that. But..pizza? Usually pizza goes over well. I haven't met a kid yet who hated pizza."
Yi mms softly, and nods - even if she was thinking along the lines of a healthier meal, like say, salads and sandwiches. Just kidding. "Pizza then." Her pen is slipped into a pocket, and she motions for the both of them to start walking towards Bridge Street. No way she's going to walk all the way to the farmhouse with a stack of pizzas! They'll go by car.
