Currently the moon is in the waning No Moon phase (18% full).

The Sept Compound(#2075RAM)
Sweeping branches of trees form a sort of natural roof overshadowing most of this clearing, no more than an open space of grasses and beaten earth in the heart of the forest. Some pains have been taken to keep wear and tear on the area to a minimum, so the firepit tends to shift from time to time. The firepit, several sawn logs polished from use, and a stack of firewood discreetly piled up at the base of an old spruce under a tarp, are the only signs of constant occupation. However, a student of such things might think that some minimal landscaping or planning has been done, for the meadowlike profusion of grasses and other plants has an unusually high concentration of brilliant flowers, which attract a number of bees and butterflies.
A faint trail leads off to the east, and a bit north.

Forest

Off to side of the clearing is rather largish hispo, curled up next to the little Crinos ball that is recognizable as Squeaks. The scent of blood and rabbit is thick in the air, as if some had just been eaten. Squeaks is still, but the hispo's ears are flicking about, listening.

Hispo ears would easily catch the sounds of human footsteps, no matter how silent Yi tries to be. The scent of the cliath floats into the vicinity, and it's not long before she steps into the clearing of the compound. Seems she is here either to check up on the metis, or to switch off. Seeing the hispo, she nods to him and heads that way, being quiet to not disturb either of the two.

As the footsteps approach, the hispo's ear swivel in that direction, and one eye opens to peer over at her. As she gets closer, the hispo rises up onto his almost abnormally broad paws and steps up between her and the metis protectively. He doesn't snarl or do anything particularly threatening, though his fur bristles a bit at the woman he doesn't recognize. Who are you?

Yi lifts a brow as the hispo steps between the metis and her. "You must be... Todd," is what she answers with, allowing him the opportunity to scent her. No doubt her presence has been left behind for those of keener smelling sense. "I'm Yi."

Paws flares his nostrils, catching her scent, his tail beginning to wag a bit as she introduces herself as Yi. His shaggy head nods as he relaxes himself, ears flicking. I am sorry. I have a message for you. He glances back over his shoulder to Squeaks, who is still soundly sleeping. Over there? He begins to trot a bit of a distance from the metis not wishing to wake her.

Yi's gaze flicks to the sleeping form of the metis before she clears her throat quietly and follows the hispo. What message, she wonders, does he have for her? Walking along until the cub chooses a spot, she sticks both her hands in her pockets and waits for him to deliver it.

Paws cocks his head, growling out softly as he pulls himself out of Hispo, up into Homid. He looks a bit haggard in his human-skin, drawing his hands together, cracking his knuckles. "Sorry about that, Yi-rhya. I just got Squeaks to fall asleep...she's a handful." He looks over to her as he speaks before turning back to his Elder. "Alright, this is what Olga told me to told you. Find that reporter with those pictures of Squeaks. None can go anywhere. She said you'd know what to do. Then go find Olga. She's got us some kind of new setup on Wharf street, a warehouse or something. She's also looking for a cage, and busting Renee out of where ever she is. Make sure you've got the cash. Uh. There is this loose brick in the back wall. Go three up, and then five from the right. Put the notes and shit there if Olga can't be found. The reporter's name is.." After a slight pause, he reels off the information. "Also, she said you've got the authority if you want me to stay here with Squeaks or whatever."

Yi nods, nods, pauses, and nods a little more at lumped messages. Before Todd goes on, she holds up a hand. "The reporter's name I am sure I can figure out. Actually finding the pictures would be... a little difficult." There's a brief but obvious glance back towards the metis. A near undetectable flicker of anger crosses the ragabash's face, which just as quickly dissipates. Sucking in a breath, she wets her lip and looks back to the cub. "What did she mean, 'make sure you've got the cash'? And what back wall are you talking about?"

Todd rubs the back of his head nervously as she speaks, glancing back over at the Metis from the corner of his eye. "I don;t know what she meant by cash. That is just what Olga said. The loose brick is in the back wall of the warehouse. The drop point it there."

"Tche," Yi grunts offhand, turning up her gaze to the sky for a moment. "So troublesome." She looks back to Todd then, eyeing him up and down. "So... you're Todd. What is your story?"

Todd shrugs a bit at her pointed question, looking just about anywhere but her face. "I don't really have one. Just one more cub is all."

Yi hehs softly, taking her critical eyes off the cub. "Everyone has a story. If you don't, then you are nobody worth remembering." She hitches a shoulder, hand returning to its pocket. "So let's start with an introduction, mm? Your name. What do you like? What do you not like? And... what is your goal? Your dream?"

Todd smirks a little, letting his lanky arms hang down by his sides. When he speaks, his voice is soft, and colored by some Eastern European accent, Russian or some other Slavic dialect. "I'm Todd Brooks. Hands-faster-than-head, Ragabash cub of the Bone Gnawers, under Olga. I like magic and god food. I can't stand jackasses, or rich people that show off. I did want to be the most famous, most influential close-up magician. That, however, seems unlikely now."

Yi looks at Todd again, face level as he introduces himself. "Mm, well. I am Yi. I too, am a no-moon, a Gnawer, and not from around here." Quite obvious, from the lingering foreign accent of her own. "I like food, and I don't like not having food. And, my goal is for now, none of your business." She smiles slightly. She turns away, pacing a few steps towards the metis. "How old are you, Todd?"

Todd watches her as she steps towards the metis, answering her quietly. "I'm 15, Yi-rhya." He scuffles his foot a bit, nervously.

Yi turns at his reply. "15? Really?" There's a moment of pausing, as if she were hesitant to continue closer to the metis. "You're tall for your age," she comments. "Well, you have any sort of questions for me?" She walks the few more paces until she's beside the sleeping metis, looking down upon the crinos cub.

Todd smirks a little. "I've got big hands too. And yeah....I kinda do. Do you think you could spend some time to tell me about the Litany? I really think that might be important."

Yi gazes from cub to cub. "Of course," she answers him, hands shifting in her pockets. "How much do you know of it? The Litany is the rules by which the Garou who recognize it, follow. And, ask any Garou who knows the laws to explain them to you, and you will no doubt receive different answers. For example..." The ragabash casts her gaze down at the crinos sleeping. "This metis is a violation of the first law. Garou Shall Not Mate With Garou." She withdraws her hand from a pocket, a switchblade gleaming as it clicks out. "And by some Garou's opinion, should have been destroyed." The knife lowers as she squats, bringing the blade close.

Todd watches her as she approaches the metis, responding softly. "The first two have been explained to me. And it is not her fault." As the switchblade come into view he begins moving toward her, flowing down into hispo. He's across the clearing and within striking distance by the time she finishes with the squat, his lips curled back to expose his fangs. That is why I am here to protect her.

An off-center smile alights Yi's features as the now-hispo cub faces her. The switchblade is awfully close to the crinos cub's neck. Technically, a couple of stabs would at least wake her, but not necessarily kill her. With a sigh, Yi shakes her head. "The fault lies nowhere but in the cruel destiny this cub will experience," she says plainly. The blade turns a little, catching the light and sending it towards one of the hispo's eyes. "You really think you could stop me, if I were to make an attempt to kill this cub? What impression do I give you?"

Paws narrows his eyes and moves his head a touch to the side, keeping out of the way of the reflected light. He keeps steady and tensed, lip curled back. I must try. She is family. I have orders. I would do the same for you, if it were another way. His tail is curled up over his back, and his broad paws are well placed in the ground.

"So, you said earlier I have authority," Yi continues along, calmly shifting the light away from the eyes of the hispo. "What if I ordered you to leave me alone? There is one of the rules of Garou as well. Submission to Those Higher in Station. I am the cliath, and you are the cub. If you didn't obey me, you would be breaking the Litany." Perhaps she is testing the hispo. Or perhaps she is serious.

Paws flicks his ears, looking confused for the barest of seconds before resuming his quiet snarl. Fat-Ripper leads the tribe. Her orders are most important. His paws flex against the ground, keeping himself ready. Twice I was told to watch and protect her. I will.

Yi finally takes the blade away and points it at the hispo cub. "Then remember another two rules of the Litany. The Leader may be challenged at any time of peace, and cannot be challenged in times of war." She closes the blade, slipping it away into her pocket. "So as you are a questioner of the ways, know that between you and me, right now is a time of peace. You challenged my actions -- good." The cliath stands slowly, brushing off her pants. "Which brings me to another rule. Respect those beneath you, all that are of Gaia. I respect your decision, Todd. Tell me, do you know what The Veil is?"

Paws relaxes as she puts the blade away, moving to settle back onto his haunches. His perked ears remain directed at her to take in her words. He allows himself to wag a bit as he is praised for his actions by the elder. He nods at the question, ears flicking. We must keep hidden from the humans. Should they find us, we would be hunted. That is why the..the...things must be taken. From the nosy human.

Yi nods. "The photographs. More importantly," she starts to say, "Whoever took the photos, must be found." Her low tone implies punishment as well for the offender, but she leaves it out. "The Veil is very important to keep regular people from hunting us. They are scared of us, and so you know people do stupid things when they are scared. 'The Veil Shall Not Be Lifted' is a fancy way of saying 'Don't shift forms when someone who is not a Garou is watching.' But there is also the meaning of Why we must keep this curtain over the eyes of humans." She motions with a head back to the crinos cub. "This is one of those reasons why we have the first law. But let's move on. What about the Wyrm? What do you know?"

Paws nods to her, listening carefully. His fur bristles a bit at the breeze, ears flicking. He nods to her final question about the Wyrm, snapping his jaws suggestively. Chew and bite. Rip and crush. The insane one and his minions must be destroyed to save Gaia.

Slowly Yi brings her gaze back up to the sky. "The Wyrm was... is, the Balancer. It is the one who destroys. Depending on whichever galliard you ask, the story of what happened is different. But, the result is the same. For whatever reason, the Wyrm has gotten out of control, and it is destroying Gaia. We were created to protect Gaia, and so it is our duty to do so, against anything. The Wyrm happens to be our 'enemy' in a sense. But, you may sometimes find that other Garou... if they can be called Garou, support the Wyrm. They think siding with the Wyrm is the right way to go. If this corrupted life can be destroyed, then the wheel can turn again, and pure life can be created again." She eyes the cub thoughtfully from the corner of her eye. "What do you think?"

Paws makes a wolfish shrug to her, letting his tongue loll out. I know enough to know that I don't know enough. Until I learn more I cannot say.

Yi hms quietly. "Well, know that within you and I, in everything, there is the Wyrm. The rage that eats at our hearts, that can also be the Wyrm. So what do we do when we say, Combat the Wyrm wherever it dwells and breeds? What does that mean?" She looks back to the metis cub. "Some say that metis are of the Wyrm, so they kill them. And it's in some ways true. But fighting everything of the Wyrm we came across would only lead to our fool's deaths. So before you decide to chew, bite, rip and crush the Wyrm between your big paws... remember to pick your battles." She takes a couple of steps away from the metis cub now, stretching her hands up to the sky. "What remains? Ah. Respect the territory of another. That should be easy, mm? Also, don't eat humans. I hope I don't have to explain that. Do not make others suffer for your weaknesses. And finally... do not do anything that will let the caern be violated. Do all these make sense?"

Paws nods in his agreement to her words. Yes. They all made much sense. His ears tuck back though, the cub looking confused. What is a caern?

Yi arches a brow at first. "The caern? You've never been there?" The cliath shakes her head. "Well, we can go sometime. A caern is the reason why we Garou are still here. It is a place of power, watched over by totem spirits and Garou both. We protect these places because if we were to lose them, we would lose Gaia. It is where... mm..." she pauses, thinking of how to best explain it, "It is where we can go to feel like we are home. "

Paws nods, his big paws well, pawing, at the ground a bit as he nods, listening to her. Fat-Ripper spoke of our Totem. Rat. I think I understand what a caern is now. Thank you very much for helping me. He wags his tail a bit at her, moving up to give her an affectionate nuzzle with his nose.

Yi is hesitant when the cub draws close. Though she pats him on the muzzle and gives a bit of a scratch on its massive size, it's clear she doesn't particularly feel comfortable with the closeness. Eyeing the metis cub still asleep, she sighs softly. "Well, until the next shift comes to watch this other cub, we can't go to the caern. How long has it been since your First Change?"

Paws keeps a careful eye on the little metis, drawing away when he notices how uncomfortable he's made his elder. He takes a step back from her ears flicking. Many days. I have been here since then. Why?

Yi watches the cub step back, and her manner relaxes just slightly. That was awkward. "I ask because then I would have an idea of how long you've been here - and when to set your Rite of Passage." Before he can start inquiring, she holds a finger up. "Don't think it'll be tomorrow though. You'll need some more training before that." She smiles again faintly.

Paws had indeed opened his muzzle to ask about that, but the finger silences him. He nods silently, ruffling up his fur. He looks a bit anxious from the mention of his Rite of Passage. Mostly from his ears and tail, the wondrous mood rings of hispo and lupus.

Yi smirks then, and actually reaches out to scratch between the ears of the hispo. "Well, I'll go check to see if I can find one of these other babysitters to give you a break. Before I go though, take a look over there." She points towards the north, northeast direction. "If you keep heading that way, the caern is not far." Well it is, but not for a lupus. "We'll head there soon."
