Farmhouse: Hallway and Living Room
All doorways in the front part of the house lead to the front hallway, a J-shaped area with the short tail starting at the stairs, the front door hitting the bottom curve, the doorless opening to the living room halfway up the long side, and the also doorless opening to the kitchen and dining room at the very top. The hall has a simple wooden floor, and decorated with a generic print of soft-colored flowers hanging on the wall to the right of the front door, and a tall table sitting under the print which serves as a place to toss keys. A closet under the stairs serves as a place to hang coats or to toss shoes.
The doorless opening to the living room is halfway up the side of the hall's J, and the word cozy might spring to mind when looking into is, as it seems to radiate comforting vibrations. A long couch sits against the south wall beneath a large bay window curtained only by sheers that manages to obscure the view in but only filters the day's light. A variety of out-of-date magazines are strewn atop a low coffee table; more neatly presented are the plethora of books filling the small bookshelves which line the eastern wall. Three chairs sit about the room, focused inward, to allow group conversations. Large floor pillows are stacked in one corner of the room, except one, which lies carelessly in the middle of the floor, apparently left out the last time it was used.
An opening in the northern end of the hallway allows access to the kitchen and dining room at the back of the house, while carpeted stairs twist up at the other end of the hall, leading to the second floor. A door at the base of the J lets out to the front porch.

Kitchen/Dining Room  Front Door  STairs

Kevin is sprawling in his chair idly doodling on a tatty piece of paper. He looks up as Yi enters.

Yi nudges the door open. Her arms are laden with a couple of brown grocery bags that look rather crinkled. She glances back behind her briefly at the Mystery Mobile, and steps in before she even sees Kevin. "Oh, hello." The ragabash glances about again, just in case she /did/ miss someone. "Could you..." she trails, motioning with her head to the bag that she pushes in with her feet.

Kevin slides off his chair and strides to the doorway, scooping up the remaining bag. "Been grocery shopping?" he queries. "We're getting a bit low on stuff..."

Yi bobs her head in reply. "With so many mouths, it is only expected." Most of the groceries are basic stuff, but there are a few indulgences. "How are you? I imagine it must be very boring with no television here."

Kevin gives Yi a long heartfelt look. "No television, no internet, no x-box, no phone, no newspapers even. This place is driving me nuts. I've read every magazine and I'm even starting on the books just to stop myself from sleeping eighteen hours a day. Is there any chance at all I may be allowed out before Doomsday? I swear I'll be good." He walks sadly towards the kitchen door with his part of the groceries.

Yi winces, remembering just how difficult it must be. No television! No radio! The ragabash moves after the cub, balancing the groceries she has. "No cubs are allowed on the bawn without an elder," she repeats by way of rules, "but for those cubs with no tribe... it must be even more difficult." She shrugs a shoulder, musing on some thought, and then looks back to the cub. "Where do you think you want to go?"

Farmhouse: Kitchen and Dining Room
Homey is the first word to come to mind when looking at the farmhouse's kitchen. Dark, wood-paneled wainscoting covers the walls to about waist height, dark beige wallpaper continuing to the ceiling. Twin refrigerators occupy the north wall, facing the large six-burner stove on the south. The kitchen counter runs the length of the eastern wall, broken only by the double-basin sink. Cabinets run above and below the counter and a twin-pane window is set in the wall above the sink. A small pantry is set into an alcove alongside the refrigerators, presumably holding the deep freezer as well as shelves of dry goods.
Some twelve feet above the floor, a large chandelier hangs from the ceiling, lighting the dining room and casting long shadows over the bar to the kitchen. A long table occupies the center of the dining room, three chairs setting along each side, and one on each end. On the west wall, a large window looks out on the trees alongside the western pasture. Set into the north wall is a large cabinet, its glass doors closed on shelves containing a full compliment of fine china and glassware as well as a few decorative nicknacks. On the east, a wide bar separates the dining room from the kitchen.
An opening in the southern wall allows passage to the front entryway of the house, while a sliding glass door in the kitchen opens to a clearing behind the house.

Hallway/Living Room  Back Door

Kevin strides through to the kitchen, plonks the bag down on the counter, and starts unpacking it. "How should I know?" he asks. "All I know about this place is what I can see through the windows. I don't know what's outside, I don't know where I am. I assume I'm still in the United States. I suppose I can't be all that far from St Clair. Apart from that... I know zippededoodah. And perhaps now you can see why I'm getting so damn frustrated. Hell, I'd go out wearing a collar and leash if it meant I could get to stretch my legs a bit."

"Then it is about time that you learn," Yi replies, sliding in some of the meats into the freezer. She packs groceries with not one ounce of rushing. "We are near St. Claire, but not within a ready distance... that we couldn't catch a cub if they tried to run." She gives the lost cub an impish grin, complete with teeth. "And as for the rest of the world... today is the 6th of February. It is almost Chinese New Year."

Kevin gives a long sigh as he packs jars and tins into the cupboard. "Run away? Me? From what I hear I'm about the only cub who hasn't tried that one. I knew it would be pointless, and would just get me sat on even more than I am already. 6th February? Hellfire. I've been here more than six weeks now. How long, how long?" Another tin is slammed down on its shelf with more than necessary force.

Aubrey steps in as she catches Kevin's comment in through the kitchen door. She chuckles. "Perhaps the only one in recent times, cub." she replies. Then she looks up to see Yi. "Yi," she greets.

Yi pushes the crisper drawer shut, now fully loaded with greens and fruit. That done, she straightens up with a slight wince, rubbing at her leg. The ragabash glances over quickly towards Aubrey, having been off guard. "Aubrey, hello," she replies with a quick dip of her head. "Just putting away groceries." Back to Kevin she turns, and this time imposes a question to him. "Have you chosen a tribe?"

Kevin colours a little as he recognises Aubrey and recalls his last encounter with her. "I've narrowed it down some," he replies to Yi, his eyes however remaining on Aubrey. "To two main choices, one long shot, and a fourth where I've still never knowingly met a member to get the lowdown on their ways and aims."

Aubrey nods her head as she looks to Yi, nodding slowly. "What is the news of the city?" she asks. "I heard that Havoc had a little problem." The Theurge frowns a little and steps in to the kitchen further as she looks towards Kevin once again, squinting her eyes at him. "Ke... Kelvin, right?" she asks, having forgotten the cub's name.

Tenzin pushes open the door quietly, and almost immediately upon entering, ducks his stubbled-head in a half bow hurriedly, "A thousand pardons, if I have brought any interuption."

Sticking a small half-gallon of ice cream into the freezer as well, Yi glances back to the cub curiously. "Kevin," she corrects before realizing, and looks back to the theurge. "They are... taking care of it. But so far, there are power changes on the streets." The succinct report given, she looks back over as Tenzin steps in and smiles. "Come in. You are not interrupting anything." To Kevin she indicates the monk. "Have you two met?"

Kevin looks at Tenzin. "No," he muses, "but at a guess you must be the new Gaian cub who was mentioned to me. Yes, Kevin's the name, and no, you weren't interrupting anything more than me whining on about not being allowed out of the house."

Aubrey blushes at her mistakes. "I'm very sorry," she says, blushing slightly. Then the woman looks to Tenzin, giving another confused look to the unknown cub.

Tenzin nods politely to the other young man, this time placing the knuckles of his right hand into his left palm, and bowing thusly, "Tenzin Dawa." He pauses a moment, and regards Kevin evenly, "When you look to what you cannot do, you reject all the things that you /can/ do."

Yi ahs, finally finding out Tenzin's name. The Gnawer smirks slightly at his proverb, but nods to its wisdom. "Indeed Kevin. I admit I am curious to hear which tribes you've decided upon." Then she explains for Aubrey's benefit, "Tenzin is one of the Children of Gaia. Dakota and I brought him from the city, though I'm not sure if he has changed yet."

Kevin's eyebrows go down as he looks at Tenzin suspiciously, mentally chewing over that cryptic remark. "Well," he grumbles, "I can run up and down the stairs, and make myself sandwiches, and do the washing up, and talk to people --" he gestures to Aubrey and Yi -- "when they happen to come out here. But just /you/ wait till you've been kept here six weeks without feeling the sun on your face or the ground under your feet and we'll see what tune you're singing then..." He turns to Yi again. "The Get and the Glass Walkers are front runners presently." He fishes the last two cans from the bag, stashes them, and shuts the cupboard with a bang. "Still to meet any Shadow Lords though. Do they never come out here?"

Aubrey looks to Yi, then looks to the young boy and blinks a few times. "For once there is a cub who knows of wisdom?" she says in astonishment. "Do you know your auspice, cub?" she asks. Then she looks to Yi, nodding her head. "The Get," she grumbles, sounding as though she has developed a headache from the name. "There are some of the Get of Fenris that I hold in respect, there are others who I would warn your against, particulairly some of those young Cliaths. They know nearly nothing, yet they say that they have been to the edge of the world and back again." she rolls her eyes.

Tenzin rests his arms in the sleeves of his robes, and nods respectfully to Aubrey. "I know /of/ it, but I am afraid that even meditation has not revealed all the meaning of its truth, yet. The one who has been teaching me, who is called Dakota, spoke of the crescent moon."

Aubrey lifts her eyebrow up as she looks upon the young cub. "Crecent moon seems about right," she replies with a smile. "Have you had your first change, Tenzin?" she asks, curiously.

Yi leans against the counter. "Nothing against the Bone Gnawers, right?" she asks Kevin, though seemingly like she wouldn't be offended if he did. "Considering your liking of technology, maybe the Walkers would be a tribe for you." Her tone modifies slightly though, as she remembers just who comprises the Walkers. "I have respect for the Get," her subject digresses, "and as for the Shadow Lords... Jarred-rhya does not come to the farmhouse often. Not since his cubs were rited. And what was the fourth tribe?" Between Tenzin and Aubrey, she looks and nods to something the Child cub said. "The theurge, or crescent moon, is probably your calling. Seeker of knowledges and wisdom in all things, but also a special calling to the spirit world."

Kevin looks from Tenzin to Aubrey, with a look that comes altogether too close to comfort to being a glare, before he looks back to Yi with a less bitter expression. "All I know," he says, "is that the Get know honour, the Get can fight, and the Get were responsible for making me feel the least wretched I've been since I was brought here. That's a lot to go up against. Oh! The fourth tribe was the Striders. I've only met one of them and she was a metis..." he gives a little shudder at the mere mention of the name... "but being an athlete and all myself, I'm not going to count them out till I've got to speak to them properly and learn more."

Tenzin shakes his head, gaze lowering even as he does so. "It is... difficult... to overcome my beliefs about anger, then to release it. It is one of many things I am having to rethink."

"The moon is small," Aubrey says to Tenzin, but it does not always need anger to bring on the wolf. "My first change was done without rage, but with concentration."

"The Get are also the first into every fight, and the last to fall back," Yi says with a small nod to Kevin. "As a ragabash, the Get expect no less from you than from their ahrouns. And the Striders, well, our Warder is one of them. They are prone to travel though." The Gnawer wets her lips. "Haven't you been to the barn even, Kevin?" She glances back to Tenzin and Aubrey, but allows the theurges to converse.

Kevin says "Oh, I've been to the /barn/," Kevin clarifies, "but I'm not allowed out there without a chaperone, even. That's where the Get have been teaching me shifting, and letting me burn off energy by kicking my furry arse in sparring practices." He grins for the first time. "You feel like you've been run over by a truck afterwards, but it still feels damn good...""

The boy-monk nods faintly to the Fianna's words. "Yet sometimes it is better to empty the mind, rather than fill it with 'concentration', yes?"

Aubrey nods to the cub, "It is." she replies. "The elder I was working with did not realize just how much more difficult it was for me. When the time comes, when the moon is bright, you will either begin to feel it within your very skin or you should seek an elder to guide you through the transformation."

Yi gives Kevin a quizzical look. "The Get seem very interested in you," she notes, "but the Get are not the only ones who could 'kick your furry arse' in a sparring practice." The Gnawer grins again, as if she were welcoming a challenge to prove her words. She looks over to Aubrey and Tenzin as well. "But as I said to you before, Tenzin, you might want to find someone to bind your clothes to you before that happens."

Tenzin looks at Yi, now, curiously. "How does that work?"

"I could do that," Aubrey replies with a smile. "I would just need duct-tape."

Kevin casts a slightly envious glance at the other cub. "Some folks have it /made/..." he mutters before turning back to Yi. "Oh, pretty much anyone could murder me, I'm not kidding myself. I need much more practice before I'm ready to face anyone... or anything... for real. If you want to help out..."

Yi points to herself and Aubrey. "We both know. The spirits in your clothing become one with your spirit. They change with you." The Gnawer looks back to Kevin. "You too. We can work in the barn," she mentions.

Tenzin bows towards both women. "I would be in your debt. Either of you. Both of you."

Aubrey walks over to the junk drawer and looks around, finding some duct tape and then a salt shaker.

Yi looks curiously at Aubrey, head tilting to one side. "It seems our ways of performing the rite are different from each other," she notes, but looks back over to the two cubs. "Some how I doubt you need to follow the no barn without a chaperone rule so closely, Kevin. As for finding things to do... well, one of those things can be self training."

Kevin gives Yi a wry look. "All very well for you to say but I'm not giving Trevor a chance to come down on me like a ton of bricks!" He sighs. "Well, scuse me, you guys. I need to go do some... self training." With a grin to Yi the tribeless cub leaves the room.

Yi waves her hand like Trevor's wrath is nothing to worry about, but turns it into a short wave. "Be well Kevin. I will try to come by some time and show you how a Gnawer fights a Get and survives." The ragabash laughs softly and then turns to Tenzin. "And how are you finding the farmhouse?"

Tenzin shrugs narrow saffron-robed shoulders. "It is what it is."

Aubrey finds the materials that she needs, coming back to the kitchen table to set them down. "You have everything that you want dedicated on you, Tenzin? Or if you have anything that you do not which to have dedicated, you will want to take them off now."

Yi nods slowly, though the knowing glimmer behind her eyes tells of her expecting there is more under the boy's surface. She glances back over to Aubrey shortly. "I admittedly have not tried to perform this rite when the moon is so small, Aubrey. Are you sure there will be success?"

Tenzin tilts his head curiously at the Fianna. "I have few possessions, and since attachment is the root of suffering, we are not allowed to grow too attached even to our meager possessions. Yet, I do confess it would be cold, were I not to have my robes."

Yi smirks. "Even the Awakened One found that shedding all things from him only resulted in a talking stomach and fevered mind."

"It was Raul who had taught me the rite," she replies to Yi belatedly. On the table Aubrey places out the duct tape, knife, and salt shaker in that order. The Theurge takes a breath before she pulls out a length of the tape and slices it with her teeth as she places it down with the stick-part sticking up. "Give me your palm, cub." she says to Tenzin.

The boy-monk nods to Yi, even as his eyes watch Aubrey. He, perhaps surprisingly, lays his hand out before him, towards the Fianna. "When one is hungry, one should eat, when one is tired, one should rest. Is it when we deny these things, or or overindulge, that suffering comes."

Yi smiles softly when Aubrey mentions Raul. "It's been awhile since I saw him. Raul is almost as wander loving as a Strider." The ragabash then turns that smile on Tenzin. "The wolf side of you will be happy to know that."

Aubrey rips off several more pieces of tape before she takes the boy's palm in her hand and then takes the knife in the other. "This will hurt a little," she says as she draws a cut from his palm, causing it to bleed. Then very carefully, she takes Tenzin's palm and drops it across the tape, making sure not to drop it anywhere except on the tape. When she is done, her hands glow with a blue light as she heals the boy's wounds. "The tape will bind, the blood tells the spirit of what you wish to dedicate that the possesions are your own, and the salt..." she says as she sprinkles it on top of the blood, "takes away any negativity the spirit might have about being bound." Then she takes the strips and tapes them to his robes and what else he wishes to bind. "Do not worry, it won't stain your clothes." She then mumurs something under her breath and closes her eyes. Afetr a moment, she opens them again, peeling away the tape. No blood or salt remaining. "Done." she replies.

The young boy-monk's face betrays no pain or surprise at the cut. He does, however, seem to be fascinated by the ritual itself, almost even losing the fact that his cut has been healed, more interested in the 'how' than the actual effect.

Yi watches on, also curious at the fact that Aubrey's performance of the rite is very different from hers. When the Fianna announces it is done, Yi looks back over Tenzin's face. "The only way to truly test it, is to change. But..." she trails, "I don't know if it is wise to go beyond the reach of your tribe's elders."

Aubrey nods her head and places her hands into the pockets of her jeans as she looks around. "Has there been anyone else around lately?" she asks, curiously.

"I have encountered a few persons," the boy says, "... but I know little to tell you of them."

"Dakota and Alicia usually should come by," Yi notes thoughtfully. "Since I think Auggie and Karl have been in the woods, it will be a bit more difficult to say. But, Dakota is a crescent moon too, so she, I presume, would be your teacher."

Aubrey shuffles on her feet. "If Karl does not already know, I will tell him to stop by to meet you, he is my packmate." she explains.

Tenzin nods quietly. Then, pauses a heartbeat before asking, "What, exactly, is meant by a 'pack'?"

Yi glances sidelong to Aubrey, and then explains. "It is like... having siblings. A smaller family inside the large one. A pack is bound together for a common reason. All its members seek out the favor of a spirit as well, and together they perform their duties."

This answer seems to satisfy the boy-monk, at least for now, as he yet again folds his arms into the sleeves of his robes. "I am wondering. What needs doing around here, that I will be able to get food?"

Aubrey nods to Yi's reply. Then she looks to the boy, "There should be a lits of chores around, or Dakota might find something for you to do if Tevor is not about. As for food, we are easy around here. There is food in the pantry, the fridge..."

Tenzin smiles enigmatically, "Begging your pardon, but all of us are taught from the moment we set foot in the monastery, if we do not work, we do not eat."

"Then consider your learning to be your work here," Yi applies logically. "Although the housemasters here must be intent on keeping the cubs busy with chores, there is only so much one can do." The ragabash looks back out towards the sliding glass door, beyond to the fields.

Aubrey chuckles. Then bobs her head to Yi, then looks back to Tenzin. "It is good to have been taught that way, because when you learn of the wolf, you will realize that a wolf must work for their dinner as well." she winks.

Tenzin moves towards the cubboards, "Lama Yeshe says that Western children grow up with something called a "sense of entitlement", and that they are bitter and childish when the world then disappoints them. How much better to grow up expecting nothing, and gaining everything."

Yi laughs and then gestures to the fridge. "But if you are hungry, then eat. If you are tired, then rest. And if you have something to do, then you do it." She turns to both the theurges. "Which, after saying, is where I must leave you two. I must return to the city, and make my rounds. There are some people who are... not expecting me, but will find themselves with nothing soon enough." A feral grin later, the ragabash steps out.
