Farmhouse: Kitchen and Dining Room
Homey is the first word to come to mind when looking at the farmhouse's kitchen. Dark, wood-paneled wainscoting covers the walls to about waist height, dark beige wallpaper continuing to the ceiling. Twin refrigerators occupy the north wall, facing the large six-burner stove on the south. The kitchen counter runs the length of the eastern wall, broken only by the double-basin sink. Cabinets run above and below the counter and a twin-pane window is set in the wall above the sink. A small pantry is set into an alcove alongside the refrigerators, presumably holding the deep freezer as well as shelves of dry goods.
Some twelve feet above the floor, a large chandelier hangs from the ceiling, lighting the dining room and casting long shadows over the bar to the kitchen. A long table occupies the center of the dining room, three chairs setting along each side, and one on each end. On the west wall, a large window looks out on the trees alongside the western pasture. Set into the north wall is a large cabinet, its glass doors closed on shelves containing a full compliment of fine china and glassware as well as a few decorative nicknacks. On the east, a wide bar separates the dining room from the kitchen.
An opening in the southern wall allows passage to the front entryway of the house, while a sliding glass door in the kitchen opens to a clearing behind the house.

"Ah already'ave." Aaron slurrs and he picks up the hem of his shirt and puts it to his nose to make sure that everything smells fresh. "Ah smell like a newly bloom'd flora in springtime..." he murmurs. "Ah'd bet t'ladies would love t'at." The Texan smiles charmingly and piles sandwiches in with the rest of the belongings he has packed into a grocery bag.
Basil chuckles as he takes another bite from the dwindling peppered meat stick, then reaches into one of his pockets. He pulls out a wad of dough and dolls out a twenty with a spec of blood on one corner, placing it on the kitchen table. "Take it. Use it to buy yourself something later or whatever." He stuffs the cash into his pocket. "Just don't tell anyone I gave it to you. It'd give them the impression that I'm not an apathetic asshole, and we wouldn't want that, would we?"
For all the peace and quiet given towards the Gnawer ragabash's nature, today there is little of it. Yi appears at the back door of the area with an icy cold darkness in the void color of her eyes. It darkens further as she spots Basil and Aaron sitting contentedly in the kitchen, eating. The glass door slides open with a bang. "You two." The ragabash steps in, and shuts the door with just slightly less noise. "We need to talk."
Aaron blinks for a momet at the twenty and then takes it and stuffs it quickly into his pocket before anyone can catch side of it. "Ye'd 'ave ta show me how'd y'd be doin' t'at." he mutters. "What're ya, some sort o'pick-pocket-eeer?" Aaron scratches at the stubble on his chin and then reaches for the fridge door and pulling out to colas. "Ah should show ya..." he suddenly goes quiet as he hears Yi. "Uhh-oh," Aaron whispers quietly towards the other cub.
Basil says "No, I pulled it off those guys we iced." Basil half murmurs, sliding his gaze over towards Yi, the faintest traces of a smile he had quickly disappearing. "Of course. We always have time for our Elders. If it's about being out of the city so much, I'm sorry, but I heard one of my friends got hurt and I had to check on him."
"You two," Yi growls out, jaw working with a tight restraint. She doesn't seem to have slept last night either. "Have much to explain." Her eyes pin Aaron with a clear and commanding look to start. "Tell me, why have I heard that there was an attack on the Bawn... in which you two did Nothing to help the Garou who were in danger?"
"Ah wasn't supposed t' be 'ere in d'first place. None of y'ave given any ok t'be out'ere and if you'd heard ah'd gotten hurt, ah'd be in m're trouble." Aaron replies as calm as he can while shooting looks at Basil for talking him into the bawn in the first place. "Ah was usin' m'best judgement and gettin' out of th'way."
Basil frowns at Yi, letting his hand holding the food drop to his side. "I was out in the woods with Aaron, when we heard the sounds of the attack. We didn't know what to do, so I shifted up and Aaron did too. We ran into Tamara, and when we spotted the pigs, she ordered us to stay where we were and wait. She said she was going to drag some pigs back for an ambush. We waited for her, and we couldn't really see her or the pigs. We thought they were coming. If, *if* Tamara had said 'Attack!' or we'd seen her run off, or knew she wasn't coming, I'd have gone after the pigs tailin' her, or the other ones."
Yi snaps her eyes off of Aaron, shifting to pin Basil with the same look she'd given the other ahroun. She stays that way for some time, cranking the testimony through her head. "And what about the others?" she questions afterwards. "Andy, and Michael."
"Ah'd not seen 'em." Aaron replies blankily and looks to Basil. The teenager looks blankily at the other Ahroun, waiting his response. It appears that Basil is doing the talking, and Aaron is going to stand there with a dumbstruck look on his face.
Basil says "What about Tamara, if we ran off to fight with them, and she suddenly came back and had to fight the two pigs alone?" Though Basil tenses and his eyes drift down to look at Yi's neck, he doesn't move from his spot. "I also thought that the others were doing OK. I couldn't really see them that great, it wasn't like we were close, and it was startin' to get dark. If I knew they really needed my help, and Tamara didn't, I'd have attacked."
At first, there is silence from the Gnawer ragabash. The air thick with tension then cracks with her voice like thunder. The words, however, are not English. Yi turns her eyes from both cubs, stalking off to a different part of the kitchen as a cadre of curses rattle out from her throat tight with rage. Then she whips back around, staring at the two cubs. "If we didn't need your help, then why do we ever bother teaching you anything at all? Idiots!" She starts back towards the cubs. "Starting to get dark? What are you, afraid of it?" A thick six-inch blade appears from nowhere, slammed down point first into the wooden table, left their gleaming in the afternoon light. "What does the Litany say? Combat the Wyrm wherever it dwells and breeds! What else does it say? You shall not take any action that causes a caern to be violated! This /includes/ Standing Dumbly while your fellow Garou are fighting for their lives!"
Aaron widens his eyes and stares at where the the knife has settled into the table and the Ahroun watches it waver for a moment with a furrow of his eyebrows. His nose wrinkles up and his muscles stiffen to Yi's voice.
Basil looks promptly over towards the knife, then looks back to Yi, watching her carefully for a few minutes before speaking very, very slowly and in a low voice. "You know how I see the city." He murmurs quietly. "And it was you that first took me to the Caern, remember? I know Andy, and I think he's a good guy. I also hold Silver Fangs highly. I've been working on their house. Do you think that I would stand by and watch one die?" Basil gestures to himself. "I and Aaron recently risked our lives at Olga's orders to save a human. I'd do the same for a Garou." Basil swallows, pausing briefly. "The Litany also says to not question our Elders in battle. Tamara was my commanding Elder, and she gave me an order."
"If Tamara told you to bloody your head on the nearest tree would you do that too?" Yi roars, her anger spilling over. "What were you going to do? Wait until the Wyrm farts out the bones of the Guardians before you decided to do something?" She lays a hand on the knife handle and jerks it out of the table, pointing it at the cubs. "I ought to cut your balls off for your cowardice! You don't deserve them!" She turns away, a fresh tide of anger sweeping over her. "This isn't about saving any stupid human. This is about the caern! The lifeblood of the Garou, of Gaia. You cannot tell me that you just stood there and did nothing. There is no excuse." She wills down a gutteral snarl, the knife fading from her hand. "I thought I taught you better than that."
Aaron remains quiet, his back rigidly straight. He looks directly at Yi and looks uncomfortable as the knife is pointed at him and Basil. The Ahroun now senses how much trouble that he is in and remains as still as possible in hopes that perhaps Yi will think that the Ahroun is thinking really hard about what sort of trouble he has caused.
Basil folds his hands up in front of him, ducking his head towards the ground but still keeping an eye on the armed Ragabash. "I'm sorry. I thought I was doing the right thing. I didn't run... " He murmurs out.
Yi's anger crests and crashes full on into the banks of the apology. She doesn't turn around immediately, though when she does her eyes are still hard, still angry and still disappointed. "I would have understood if you had run. But you did not." Her gaze travels back and forth between the two, weighing down. "You are ahrouns. Warriors of the warriors of Gaia. When your friends, your family, is in trouble you do not sit there and watch them bleed. No Matter What some elder says to you! Because there will be a day when you will have no elder to hold you to your duty to Gaia."
The Ahroun being the most silent nods his head sharply. Aaron completely agreeing with Yi, knowing now what he did not understand before. The teenager pinches his lip between his teeth. "It won't happen again," Aaron says in a slightly choked voice and sounding completely serious and confident in himself.
Basil says "I didn't run because I thought Tamara was coming back with the pigs!" Basil's voice raises back up to a normal volume. "I didn't run because I'm not a coward! I love the friggin' Caern! I think it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire life. I wouldn't just sit on my ass and watch it be taken over by bacon with legs! If I was going to do that, I wouldn't train. I wouldn't bother at all. But I *do*. Earlier in the day, I accepted Touch Deer's offer to train me, and I'm gonna be in his pack if he still wants me. Yi." Basil stops, lifting a hand to brush over his forehead. "I thought Tam would know what to do better than me. I didn't know... I was scared, and I couldn't think. I trusted her to make the right choice, because I couldn't."
"That," Yi says, her voice wavering still but significantly calmer than before, "is lack of experience." Her gaze softens from its diamond hardness, but not enough to any level of warm comfort. Still it's clear she is not quite so angry at the cubs anymore.
Aaron remains standing upright, probably due to some type of miltant upbringing. It is clear that this Ahroun is more of a follower than a leader, although he's still also an Ahroun. He bows his head slightly to Yi and remains very quiet and at the elder's attention.
Basil lifts up his pepperoni stick and takes a big bite, looking slightly agitated. "It is. An Aaron there couldn't see. He ran off towards the end of the fight though, looking for something to fight. And I followed him. Whoever told you we were just sittin' in the bushes fuckin' around should have gotten all the facts before spreadin' that all around. I may not like Olga all the time, but she gave me the best home she could. I wouldn't shame her by sittin' with my thumb up my ass while the Wyrm marched all over the Caern." Basil turns and opens the fridge, fetching a soda for himself, and offering one to Yi. "So, when are you going to teach me to cook like you do? I'm dying to learn."
Yi takes the drink, but looks at it a moment before setting it down on the countertop. "You should focus on your fighting, not your food."
Aaron nods his head to Basil, agreeing to what the other Ahroun is saying about sitting around and not doing anything. The comment from Yi is not directed towards him, but he goes on to comment about the event last night. "Basil s'tellin' t'truth, we'zz wasn't sittin' around. Ah twas lookin' around fer other threats an' all."
Basil smiles at the Ragabash, reaching into his pockets, the boy pulls out a pair of mismatched knives. "I am. Which is why Touch Deer is teaching me how to fight, along with others." He puts the weapons back away. "See? Even got some knives, just like you. Can I ask you to teach me something else, then?" Basil glances at Aaron and nods, and looks back to Yi. "Been a while since I've spent some time with you. I just wish it wasn't like this."
Yi looks contemplative, and then exhales. "I think... you have much to learn still before the blade." As Aaron finally speaks again, she looks to him. "There are always other threats. We are surrounded by enemies. This place, you see, is the last of the caerns around here. Maybe some time I can find a talesinger to speak about Gaia's Tears. They were the last one in this area to fall. Now it is only us left to defend this place, and even so, we have our own problems with the hospital destroyed."
Aaron nods to Yi, then asks, "May ah now be excused?" he asks. "Ah've t'pack s'other things before Basil an' ah go back t'Odeon."
Basil opens his soda and takes a drink, going quiet as he considers Yi, his body posture easing into a relieved slump. "Mm. Olga will be expecting us before long. I stayed too long as it is... Kevin was wounded. He's a good friend. I wouldn't have felt right leavin' before he got up."
Yi nods slowly, and then turns for the door. "Olga will be talking to you both about this as well. Be prepared. And don't give her any excuses," she warns, showing an invisible tooth in her tone. "I do not forgive you yet for what you two did. But that doesn't mean I don't understand." The ragabash slides the door open quietly this time. "And I leave you two with this note - you are not Bone Gnawers... yet." She nods to them both curtly, and then slips out, the door shutting again behind her.
