Brownstone -- Basement Apt.(#3328RJ)
The basement of the brownstone has been split into two sections. The stairwell leads down into the northwest corner section, which contains the boiler room, furnace, and the elevator shaft. The rest has been converted into another apartment, and Signe's made it into a rather fortified one at that. The only entrance is through a re-enforced steel door with no less than three dead-bolts. There are absolutely no windows at all in any of the four concrete and brick walls. It's a rather stark but functional space. Overhead, the air ducts and plumbing pipes are exposed, while the cement floor is covered by a ragged dark wine and gold Oriental throw rug. A makeshift shelving unit of two-by-fours and cinder block has been erected along the length of the wall with the door, and it houses a stereo, tv and old vcr. Directly opposite this is a beat-up leather couch and two mismatched recliners. The kitchen is small but functional, with a round wooden table and four chairs. Half of the back end of the building has been walled off for a private bedroom, while the rest is open to the living area. This space has been converted into a home gym--complete with wrestling mats, weights, and a full weight boxing bag.

Out Bedroom
A couple hours after she called, Yi arrives at the front to the Brownstone building. Her voice was clear enough over the buzzer from the occassional traffic on the street outside. And when the Gnawer arrives, the elevator creaking to a stop at the bottom basement level, she juggles a brown paper bag in hand. The aroma of Chinese food wafts from it, greedily pushing in through the air of the living space. "I thought I would bring some lunch," she makes as her excuse, offering it over to be peeked and picked at.
Emma might be in a serious mood and state of mind, but the smell of hot food is something that easily sways her. A grin tips into a full smile, "Thanks Yi, smells great. I've got soda or beer in the fridge, if you wanna help yourself." The Gnawer is waved in and the door shut behind her. "Thanks for coming so quick too."
"No problem - I simply had to take care of a few things before I came, or else I would have come sooner. And, (The worst of news is made better with food)," Yi intones, her voice affecting something of that of a homely Cantonese grandmother's. Sounds like she's quoting someone too, until she translates the four-word idiom with a smile back. "Which would you have, the soda or the beer?" As per invitation, she strays towards the cooler to extract a couple of drinks, herself choosing a beer.
"For Chinese? Soda please." Emma looks to the other and then begins setting up the food on the coffee table, arranging it so both can eat from the small area. "I hate to get straight to business, but I got a plateful Yi. Thought that taking Havoc would be a nice, ease into it kind of thing. But now I've got two packmates clearly missing, and even Vex couldn't sniff them out. And Vera wants Havoc taking care of the tire fire, of which I have kept my nose clear out of."
Yi brings the soda and beer to the table, setting them both down with a nod. "And with the Nexus Crawler still loose in the city, location unknown, things here are not getting better. I do not even want to think about what goes on underground here," she adds, sitting. Utensils have already been provided as well, for the meal, and yet the dishes are tucked into cheap disposable tupperware. Must have been the Gnawer's cooking, with a couple of sides and a main of fried noodles. Quite standard fare. "Havoc is the largest pack for the city right now, though. It is only expected your pack will be called upon. But, what do you mean two packmates missing?"
Emma sighs, "Clemency and Grey just *vanished* - not a trace of them. They didn't tell me they were planning on leaving, or even going someplace questionable. Not even Vex could tell us where they were, and he always knows. Vera said that Kenneth and Abraxas, are likewise missing. And whether it was creepy hooplah or connected, the Fury cub is having nightmares about people disappearing, until everyone is gone, and *then* something bad happens." The noodles are poked at with a fork, an eager but heavy eye upon them.
Yi gestures towards the food, cracking open the beer first and taking a sip. "Chimera is the caern's totem," she comments, her tone subdued. "Perhaps the Fury cub's dream had truth. Have any theurges been asked?" There's no small bit of concern, but the ragabash is keeping calm to an extent.
Emma shakes her head, "The cub is a Theurge, and apparently has always been a dreamer, but Laura was there when she spoke of it and we both had the same thought cross our mind." The noodles get stabbed then, and slowly brought up to her mouth. For just that moment, her eyes close and a look of comfort crosses the Ahroun's features. "So I've got to find them. And I've got to plan this attack on the fire, and I know nothing about it yet."
"So, Clemency, Grey, Kenneth, Abraxas..." Yi ticks off, breaking a pair of wooden chopsticks apart. "Well, the fire I can tell you about. And your cub... Maggie, she was lost to it. It should give reason, at least, for vengeance." The chopsticks pluck up a piece of chicken dripping with sauce, popping it into the ragabash's mouth. "More important, we need to fight the source. That fire burns still. I am not sure if its source is the Shadow or the Realm, but both must be put out. The longer it burns the more the fire and smoke spirits there are tainting the land and life."
Emma remains tight-lipped during the explanation, not so much as even flinching at mention of the fallen Get cub. "Have we seen the source? Other than a heaping pile of old rubber?" The noodles get brought up more urgently now, as if she were starving and only just realized it.
Yi gives the ahroun some time to chew and swallow, chew and swallow. "I have seen it, on both sides of the mirror, yes." She in turn takes another gulp of her beer. "On our side, the tires burn in piles, the biggest of it in the center. I am surprised, the security of the area is not vigilant. And that makes me wonder. On the Shadow's side, you cannot see inside because there is a ring of smoke spirits guarding and watching. Only sometimes, if you can split them, will there be a hole to run through. Helen and Rusty worked as the splitters, getting their attention, and I ran in to look." Her chopsticks pause over the chicken. "It was not pretty, inside."
Emma frowns, stabbing a bit of meat now with the fork. "I imagine not, but what did you see? What are up against here?"
Yi breathes in deep, plucking up more from the dishes. "Fire. Fire elementals, shaped like giants. They walk over the ground, drawing energy from pillars of burning fire that looks green and orange. They breathe fire like dragons, as I was unfortunate enough to find out. The spirits of the forest do battle with them, but they lose terribly and are eaten the same way we eat these here. I have no doubt the area will need the strongest of cleansings. But, I am also thinking, if the fires they draw their energy from can be put out, then we have a chance to weaken them greatly."
Emma looks up a little uncertainly now. "Fire... elementals. Giant ones? Um Yi.." she frowns at this, setting the fork down completely as her voice takes on an unsettled and softer tone, "How do we fight something made of fire? I mean that's like, trying to have us chew through a giant silver rabbit." She lets out a snort then, "Why can't things just be meaty and .. solid, and bleed?"
Yi actually manages a chuckle, though it is quite blackened in its humor. "Fire elementals are still spirits. And fire is still fire. What does one do to kill a fire in the Realm? We use water. We use earth. We call the spirits of both to help us fight."
"Is anyone working on getting their help yet? I mean, short of us moving a mountain on top of the pile, we're going to be at a heavy disadvantage." Once more, Emma picks up the fork and begins twirling her noodles onto it. "How big is the circle of smoke sentries? How tight are they together?"
Yi takes a couple more gulps. "Big. The whole yard," she answers. "And tight enough you cannot see through them. But they seem to only be a ring around them. The fires inside burn freely, but they match the same places as the fires on this side, I imagine. The center fire is the strongest." As she chews on a mouthful of noodles and swallows, she adds after, "I have not heard one word about those working on asking the spirits. Since Dakota left... we have been weakened." She sighs softly, disturbed by that statement. "I think Vera-rhya had said Gunnar was working on talens for her hunt against the Great Hunt bane." At that, her grip on the chopsticks tightens.
Emma grunts as well. "Who are the most active Theurges we have now? Laura.." she pauses, "Why can't I think of anyone else? Gunnar, Laura, goddammit." Her fork finds a similar fate to Yi's chopstick now, and with a sigh, she sets it down altogether to take a long sip of the soda. "This Crawler business, how near does he come to the fire area? Can we get a big group of us in on the fire without risking the chance of running into both?"
"From what I was told," Yi says with a quick shake of her head, "the Nexus Crawler has not gone out of the city often. It moved north to the Financial District. My new forming pack will find it. The tire yard fire is further south from here, so we should not need to worry about the two mixing, I think. As for theurges... Gunnar, Laura, Jamethon. There is also the Fury fostern, the metis with the.." She wiggles her fingers in that manner of Shield-Bearer's hands. "And I have heard that there is a new Silver Fang metis, also a theurge. Lune-Calmer, the Alpha called him."
Emma nods her head, "Alright. That's helpful at least. Do you know where the newcomers are put up? And if they have provided chim yet?" The eating becomes a little less aggressive now, and the young Get seems to be relaxing somewhat into the conversation as she contemplates each new bit of news.
Yi shakes her head, slower this time. "Thyra should be a member now, but the others I am not sure. Laura could tell you more, since she is the same tribe. Even though your packmates are missing, Emma... if Vex has not felt their leaving, then they should still be around. Perhaps they have disappeared together, and so they can support each other."
Emma looks to Yi and sighs, "Then what about the two Shadow Lords?" She shrugs, "I can't relax till I find them, it's not right. Clemency would not just up and take off, and neither would Grey. Despite what the Septs general feelings for him are." She forks up some more noodles. "I just don't know how to go about finding them; gone without a trace and with no clues for what direction to start the search. We need to find the missing sept members before we can set a single foot toward fighting the fire."
Yi nods in agreement, tipping back her last dregs of beer. "I know of Grey's habits, a little. He is not the type to disappear without good reason," she assures quietly. "Clemency, the same. There is a good reason, and I am sure they are fine." She pauses, contemplating the can top. "Even the Shadow Lords." The ragabash stands up to bring the can to the recycling bin, saying along the way, "I would ask Chimera. And the moon is small yet, so we should use this time to plan. Use this time to scout the Realm of the fire again. If the humans have not found a way to put them out, then we should look for a way while we wait for the others to return."
Emma nods tersely, looking not at all pleased with at least some part of the Gnawers recent comments. "Next time you go to scout it, let me know. I want to come with. As for the disappearing members, lets see if we can't get Jamethon to poke his nose around this. It's up his alley after all." The sound of fork hitting container bottom is heard as Emma looks up to Yi, "Thanks for the grub."
Yi waves it off. "The least I can do, even as a Bone Gnawer. Sometimes I wonder if you younger cliaths are eating enough," she says with a smallish laugh, again a little dark. "I have an idea to go see what the owners of this tire yard are doing about it, as well, so maybe you would like to come on that. Greenpeace certainly would not be happy." The faint, tight smile turns wry at its edges.
Emma nods her head with a slight grin, "That sounds exactly up my alley. Just say when." The Ahroun gets up to fetch her second soda then, and looks back into the front room. "Stay awhile if you'd like Yi. We can catch up on non-business too. Been a while."
