Bawn: Western Forest(#3018RA)
Tall Sitka spruce and sequoia crowd around and above you. Many of the trees are old, their branches twisted into impossible shapes, trunks broad and draped with lichen, mosses and creepers. Tendrils of moss hand down from them like green spiderwebs, snaring the unwary with cold, ghostly fingers. The patches of younger growth are dense and pale, needles tinged with silver. Matted undergrowth huddles sullenly in the occasional small clearings, clutching with thorns and burrs at the legs of those who would pass. Deer seldom venture here, but the forest is full of rustlings, and tiny glints from wary, watchful eyes.
The forest spreads out to the east, bounded on the west by Sunrise Road. From farther to the west, one can occasionally hear the distant sounds of the town of Kent's Crossing.
Obvious exits:
Southwest Highway 22 Overgrown Path Sunrise Road Farmhouse Caern of the Hidden Walk Creek Central Bawn Southern Bawn Northern Bawn
From the direction of the farmhouse, Yi makes her way through the forest. The fostern is trying to keep quiet, but at the same time, remains vigilant and moves with a purpose underneath the trees. She's out looking around some of the more obvious animal paths where the Guardians might have crossed. By all respects she hasn't changed visually either, since she was last seen at her punishment rite.
Stacey is walking in the opposite direction, making her way from the bawn to the Farmhouse. The young Guardian has shifted into her birthform, and although she'd keeping an eye out for any that might be around, she seems rather set on her destination.
Stacey has long, light brown curls that frame her oval-shaped face. The preteen's features are soft and childlike, with a small nose, slightly prominent cheekbones, and large hazel eyes. A fading tan and a few freckles color her otherwise fair complexion. This slender girl is wearing blue jeans with a black short-sleeved shirt that reads "PEACE" across the front in bold, white lettering and "...or else" across the back, along with white tennis shoes. A leather thong necklace with a pendant of a dove carved of smooth white shell with bits of mother-of-pearl on either side is tied around her neck.
Eventually their paths do cross. It isn't too hard to spot the Gnawer walking her way caernwards. That, coupled with a twig cracking underfoot, signals the ragabash's passing. Same thing goes for seeing Stacey, and upon spotting the ahroun, Yi waves her hand.
Stacey spots Yi and waves back before heading to intercept the Gnawer. "Hey, Yi-rhya. Did ya get Kaz's message or...?" She pauses with a slight frown. "'Cause I've been needing to talk to ya."
Yi at first starts to answer, but stops herself and just nods instead. The ragabash glances off to one side, brow furrowing and frowning a little in reluctance to speak. Her gaze returns quickly though, looking upon the girl expectantly.
Stacey takes in a deep breath. "There are at least six spirals north of the bawn, been using a trebuchet to throw heads into the bawn. At least twelve humans with them. We're preparing fast and then gonna go take the fight to them."
Yi lifts her brows at the news. It's still a little bit shocking to hear. But the ahroun can see the intensity of the hatred towards the Spiral Dancers that rises inside the Gnawer, just by the darkening of her stare. She looks to the north, then back to the girl, and nods. A single phrase, as quiet as she can make it, is spoken. "Who goes?" It's extremely high pitched regardless, and coupled with the jackal's voice, strains like nails on a chalkboard. Even Yi hates the sound of it, and it's written all over her expression underneath the present ire for the bad news.
Stacey winces at the sound of the Gnawer's voice, looking surprised as well, never having heard it before. "Um, well, so far I've talked to Kaz, Morgan, Jamethon-rhya, Helen, Ethan-rhya, and Clemency. Kenneth knows as well. And Cole, who is talking to his kin about silver weapons. And, oh, Vera-rhya knows. Jacinta and Circle Keeper are going to fight. I /might/ be going, but I might be guarding. Horace is guarding."
Yi nods slowly, letting the far more pleasant forest sounds ease back in. The fostern eyes northwards again, as if considering something. Her eyes eventually return to the ahroun once more, perhaps evaluating. And reluctantly, she asks, "Should I scout?"
Stacey takes in another breath and shrugs. "Well, Jacinta and Circle Keeper have scouted there. And Val as well. I was gonna ask the bird to check out the other borders, see if there's something we're missing elsewhere. There's a chance this could be a trap, and if we send too many in, we could leave ourselves wide open for an invasion from another direction."
Yi frowns even further, teeth gritting at the mention of 'invasion'. The Gnawer is stock still, and stiff with restraint. Then she turns and shifts to her lupus form, smoothly transitioning and sniffing the air testingly when she's done changing. Find me here, when it is time. I will guard, if you go.
Stacey takes a step forward as the Gnawer starts to go. "Yi-rhya? I know I'm not the most seasoned warrior. Although, don't get me wrong, I'm as eager to fight as any. And I will. But... I recognize that this is a great threat, and you outrank me. If you feel that the battle will better be served with you in it, I have no problem guarding either. I... guess I'll let Jacinta-rhya know you're willing to help and have her decide or something?"
Runner cants her head to a side, nose lifting and sniffing at the girl. Then she eyes down her own body, taking stock of the scars that riddle it. The fostern afterwards turns back to the young ahroun and drops her jaw open in a mild wolf's smile, tongue slipping out. Tell Pierces Ice. She is Guardianpsck Alpha. And the Warder. They decide who goes, who stays. Her forepaw lifts and then sets lightly on the ground. I will scout the borders. See if there are traps.
Stacey nods and smiles. "I'll let her know. Thank you. And be careful out there." She glances toward the Farmhouse. "I think I'd better move on and find the others. We don't have much time left."
Runner brushes her tail side to side in reassurance, and a bit of hope written in her body. All will be well. Then the Gnawer dips her head in a farewell and trots off through the trees.
