Bawn: Southern Forest(#3017RAJ)
Evergreen trees spread their overhead branches wide across the forest floor. Each tree limb interlinks with its neighbor, forming a thick overhead canopy of pine needles that leaves the forest floor dim even at noon. An apparent tenseness seems to permeate the air here, and there is a somewhat less than subtle feeling that perhaps something is watching. The behavior of the wildlife in the area betrays a certain wariness that suggests the presence of predators nearby.
The southern edge of the bawn is marked here by the railroad tracks which run from St. Claire and Kent's Crossing to the west, towards the mountains to the east.

She stands at roughly five-seven, lean and fit, even for a woman well into middle-aged. Her ginger-red hair is streaked with strawberry blonde highlights and falls just past her shoulders in a simple, uncomplicated wave. Bright blue-grey eyes produce a rather piercing gaze, full of ingenuity and acumen, while her bearing can be at times almost facetious. The one sober and glaring feature about the woman is a scarred right-arm, completely missing below the the elbow joint.
She wears a pair of faded Levi button-fly jeans, a black long-sleeved shirt, and a pair of scuffed, old sneakers. Overall, a black canvas duster that has seen better years is worn to protect against the weather.
Ferret is in lupus as she wanders the bawn picking up scents. She's out on the advise of the other Gnawers looking for her fellow ragabash. The bawn is alive with the smells of various garou, but she finds the one she wants among them. Settling down, she offers up a howl to call the other Gnawer ragabash to her. Once the call goes out, she shifts to homid and crouches to wait.
An answer doesn't come in any return howl, but instead in the rustling of some bushier area to intrude upon the silence. The one Lefty seeks appears not long after her call, ears pricked forward and tail swept out straight behind her. As they meet, Runner slows to a stop and peers at the homid, head tilting and nose sniffing. What is it?
Lefty spends the time drawing in the dirt of the worn path while she waits. Hearing the other Gnawer, she looks up, and the question elicits a wide grin. "Hey," she says, standing from her crouch and kicking clean the marks form the dirt. "I had a question for you."
Runner plops her hind end onto the ground, sniffing at the drawing from afar as well. An ear on her head twists to a side, listening to the rest of the forest, while the other remains trained on the other ragabash in homid. She waits, looking expectant.
Lefty goes on to explain. "The Gaians have a new moon named Aja. Do you know her? Well, it doesn't matter. The point is, she has a small mystery on her hand. An encounter with a spirit. This spirit--and, um, it was a bat by the way--told her a sad story about being bothered by wyrmy things. Including, perhaps, some Dancers. The point to all this is, we thought we'd scout things out, see what we can see, and decide if a war party is needed. But I'm not comfortable just the two of us going. We thought, an extra pair of ears, and another nose, would be a good thing."
Runner has heard of the Gaian new moon, the ragabash replies with a bob of her head. She went with us when we looked at a house of a human with the Black Spiral Dangers sign marked Weaver people carriers. The ~busses~. Yi shakes out her fur for a moment before backing herself up, reverting to breed form and combing a hand through her hair. A light cough and throat clearing, and she sniffs again. "Where was all this?"
Lefty shakes her head. "I don't know. I'm still new to the area, and I only know what the kid told me. We'd have to backtrack from where Aja found the spirit, I guess."
Yi shakes her head as well, the knuckles of her hand moving up to rub at her chin as she thinks. "I have promised Guardian duties," she says then with a disappointed sigh. But then she glances back. "Masao - If you find Masao, she could go as well. Or, I can find someone to stand in here. That has been done before. Did Aja tell you if it was in the city, or the woods?"
Lefty shakes her head. "No. I will get Aja and come find you again. Let her explain it herself. I was thinking of bringing her friend, the other Gaian, along as well. It wouldn't hurt to have someone around with a little more rage should things go wrong."
The hand at her chin falls lax back to her side, but there remains a line of tension in Yi's shoulders not just due to the moon. "A bat spirit. How do we know this isn't a trap?" asks the Asian no-moon, looking doubtful.
Lefty nods. "My question exactly," she says, a certain amount of approval in her voice for the other fostern's concern. "Just one more thing to check out. But, something in what Aja said made me believe the thing was Gaian. Call it gut, or intuition. I don't know."
Yi's tone slips out from underneath the tension, forced lighter. "We will have to see then. I will see about finding another to take my place, and go with you if I can. If not, Masao would go, I'm sure."
Lefty agrees. "I'll speak with her. Either way, your advice would be good. I'll come see you again with the others, once we know what we're doing." The Gnawer pauses, looking Yi over a little more carefully. "You like playing the ranger? Being out here, I mean?"
Yi shrugs her shoulders, but the smile she gives back in genuine. "I have been in this caern for quite some time," she answers with a look around. "To tell the truth, this is like my home now. Some times it's good to be away from the city."
Lefty does not argue the point, but she shakes her head. "I don't think I could be away /all/ the time. I envy you that. This place seems like a good home, though. I feel grateful to be allowed here." She grunts, feeling like she's said too much. Brushing dirt from her knees, she adds, "Well, I should go. Talk to you again soon."
On that point, Yi nods and steps forward. "Oh, I did have something I hoped to ask you too, before you go. That I have asked most of ragabash who come to auspice moots when they are called... if you can teach your wisdom. Gifts, Rites, to others of our moon. It would not be a bad thing to learn a new trick or two." And so indirectly, the question is laid out about teachings. Yi looks hopeful.
Lefty blinks, then flashes a grin. "Sure. I wouldn't mind trading tricks with you. Anytime."
Yi grins back, looking pleased at the response. "Perfect. Then, I will see you and Aja. In the meantime, I will be here around the bawn. One thing at a time," she notes with a nod.
Lefty chuckles quietly and nods. With a wink, the Gnawer slips back to lupus for an easier run back to the woods close to the farmhouse.
