Burial Mounds(#3207RJ$)
This wide clearing in the midst of short, dark pines is rough with wild grass and bare stone. The air is a bit cooler up here in the foothills than below, and the majestic peaks of the nearby mountains rear up over the eastern treetops. There is a vine-covered boulder standing under the edge of the somber evergreens to the east. The air here is prenaturally still and the grass waves not at all for there is no breeze that blows through the pines. It is silent, no call of bird thrown from the treetops to dance gaily in the open spaces. Occasionally chill fingers run up your spine.
                           There are +views here.
A faint path leading downhill to the west is the only exit from the clearing.

Forest

Found is sleeping among the burial markers, the lupus flopped out and enjoying some rest from time spent reading the runes. Tail curled up to be along his side with his chin on his paws.

Making her way through the wood, Yi comes walking along with nary a sound despite her homid form. She walks softly, taking a moment to work around a set of old stones before coming to a pause as she spots the cub there. The bird's wing and sage in her hand is slipped into a jacket pocket with a rustle, and the Gnawer clears her throat loudly.

Found suddenly perks his ears as the throat is cleared, the wolf waking up and giving a surprised yelp, before facing Yi and giving a low growl, Who? His ears being raised up and tail raising, showing dominance over the possible human.

An undersized lupus with brown and cream fur, it looks to be the runt of the liter, no doubt an omega by it's physical stature alone. A thick bushy tail seems to be the healthiest part of the wolf as the rest of his fur seems a bit duller, less healthy or clean.

Yi furrows her brow at the young wolf, looking obviously unintimidated. She takes steps forward towards him however, in a counter-show of dominance by virtue of invading his space. "If you don't know who I am, wolf, then your nose needs clearing. Take a good sniff."

Found pauses and begins to sniff Yi, sniffing all over before returning to sit in front of Yi and folding his ears back in submission. He looks up to her and regains his composure. One has scented you before, but never met. One is sorry.

Smelling of the sage and sparrow's wing, and the bawn's scent masking heavily, Yi gives a shrug to the wolf. "I am Yi, Runs-the-Gauntlet, fostern ragabash of the Bone Gnawers and Guardian. And you must be... someone's cub," she introduces and guesses, drawing back out the wing and sage.

Found gives a quick yip, agreeing, before he seems to regain himself. Calming, the wolf looks to Yi ~One is Lost-and-Found, of unknown tribe. There was a challange last night over me.~ he keeps both front paws next to each other, trying to look 'regal'. ~Galliard, born to two legged bitch.~

Yi rubs the bits of sage between her fingers in idle thought, nodding to the cub with his introduction. She, however, isn't buying into the ceremony. Then she recalls and gestures with the wing to the cub, "If I remember right, you were at the moot. You introduced yourself there, yes?"

Found gives a woof and nods. One was brought to moot. One has changed much, and done much since then.

Yi lifts her gaze away, looking towards the various stones. When it returns to the cub, there is further recognition. "Ah, You were the one who attacked Alesia."

Found keeps his composure. ~If you steped between a crinos and the object of his frenzy, does he attack you?~ he keeps his tail curled around his side, ~Things have changed since.~

"But why," Yi asks after another moment taken to stare right at the cub, "would a cub have reason to frenzy on another? Have things /truly/ changed since then, or do you only say so to convince yourself?"

Found licks the back of one paw as he brings it up to rub against the side of his muzzle. ~One now runs with the object of one's frenzy. Leaps-From-Dens works with One together.~

Yi eyes the cub a little longer, but shrugs and nods with the explanation. "So you are claimed by the Get of Fenris then, from the way you say it," she concludes with a walk towards a particular row of stones.

Found gives a quick negative. ~One only runs with the Get cub. Moon Otter-Rhya has challanged for me, and Hunter-Rhya has awnsered the call. One awaits to know the results. One does not sit idle for news, as One strives to be the best.~

Those two names give the Gnawer pause, and she turns back to the cub. "I am afraid I do not know Hunter," she replies slowly with a furrowed brow at the galliard. "But. You want to be... a Shadow Lord?"

Found pauses and looks to Yi. ~There is something wrong? Hunter-Rhya is a cliath of the Glass Walkers.~

Yi blinks a few more times, seconds of silence ticking by before she shakes her head. There's even a feeling of disappointment in the gesture. "Nothing," she answers the cub. "I have not met this Hunter, as you call him." Still, she's holding back as she turns back to what she had been doing. Rubbing the sage beneath her fingers to crush it, the fostern allows the bits that escape to drop upon a couple of the markers bearing names of those fallen.

Found looks at Yi longer. ~There was no objections before, and noone else had steped forward to challange for me. Do not be disappointed that One acted to serve gaia.~ he pauses a moment, ~Do you seek the passing news?~

Yi doesn't reply immediately, apparently taking some time to honor the names and spirits. Digging into a pocket, she extracts a lighter with which to light end of the sage bundle brought with her. Three swipes with the bird's wing, directing the pungent smoke towards the stone and sky, and /then/ she turns back to the cub. "As I remember, at moot you introduced yourself as a cub of the Glass Walkers. But you say Moon Otter challenged for you. I would be interested to hear what the result of that is too. But more importantly... yes, news. Go on. What have you heard of the bus in the city that bears the Wyrm's sign? Or the Black Spiral Dancers that attacked our warriors during the failed Great Hunt?" As she asks, there is a clear line of tension, like a withheld curse, from the Gnawer.

Found sits there and looks at Yi ~One has not returned to the city, as One was never ment for it. The Walkers speak that they took me in, but I was never one of them. They are the ones that cared for me and cleaned me. Without them, I would not be where I am, though Luna speaks to me to follow a different course then the city.~ He pauses, ~Instead, One had been told a story by Ears-to-the-Ground-Rhya, about the bones of the Bone Arches being buried. This story has been dismissed by Moon-Otter-Rhya who claims the bones were destroyed, and was there then. During the time when they were thought to be buried, Dragons-Fire-Rhya produced the antlers of the great stag spirit Ciancarw. There were originally to be placed on the rebuilt Bone Arches, but with the bones destroyed, One seeks to find a new place to dedicate to the great spirit stag.~

Yi watches the cub carefully, apparently the good audience when it comes to listening. Her reactions to each name are visible, with a nod in acknowledgment about Kaz, another neutral blink about Moon Otter, and then... then she straightens slightly at mention of Ciancarw. Her eyes narrow and she looks even more intensely at the cub. "I was one of Ciancarw's pack," the ragabash notes with a thinlipped mention. "I will not ask how Cole came upon Stag's antlers, seeing as he is Fianna. But why are /you/ so concerned with Stag, cub, if you are seeking the path of Thunder?"

Found pauses and looks to Yi, ~One seeks to be the best. In everything one does. One does not waste time, and One seeks to improve oneself. To find a place of honor and respect for the spirit of stag would go towards the maturity One needs to be considered for the rite of passage.~

"Your respect is noted," Yi says evenly, "but you do not yet understand." It's an enigmatic phrase, but she motions to the cub. "For example? Shift to your breed form." She gives this command, and waits for him.

Found pauses, but is quick to comply as his bones grow, and shring, fur becoming thick and then disappearing, muscles growing before they leave the very thin Matt. "Yes Yi-Rhya."

Yi looks this Matt up and down, a finger going to her chin. "Just Yi is fine, for now," notes the Gnawer as she conducts her visual inspection. "And what is your name? Not Lost-and-Found... but the one your mother named you." There's a special emphasis on the mother part.

Matt pauses and looks at Yi, "Matt Spackleheimer, born of the ronin ahroun mother and get kin dad." He keeps his hands by his sides as he looks to Yi, not challanging in his stare, but very very formal.

"A /Get/ Kinfolk?" Yi remarks with an uplift of her brows. "And how do you know your father is Kinfolk? How do you know your mother is Ronin?"

Matt pauses a moment and looks at Yi. "I used to live on the western edge of Saint Claire. Mom killed dad for being a fucking bastard. He deserved what she did to him. And I know, because she taught my brother and I, knowing it was only a matter of time before I firsted, and because a smart kin son, my brother, is what she needs."

Yi quirks her head at the cub. "What was your father like, to deserve such angry words? To deserve death, at your mother's claws? And... your brother, another Kin. You aren't afraid she might kill him one day?"

Matt shakes his head, "My brother Jacob is currently at the safe walker house. I was worried, but they brought him home." he pauses, "When I was born and branded, dad didn't like that I was branded a ronin instead of a get like him. So, he lied to the get elder, and the pair of them plotted to steal me from my mom, and run her off from her sept. Of course, she found out, because she was smart, and killed that bastard kin, taking me and my older brother with her."

"You said your mother taught you," Yi slowly notes with a nod. "And so you do not wish the Get of Fenris to be your tribe, because of your father's actions. ... You do not think your mother was wrong for killing him?"

Matt looks at Yi, "Him, and the Get elder, were obviously lying thieves. No honor between them. The shadow lords would prove to be a much better fit, with honor and strength to thier numbers. It is why the sept alpha is a Shadow Lord Yi-Rhya."

Yi tenses quickly, lips drawing thin for a moment before she schools her composure back. "The reason Vera is Sept Alpha," the ragabash says slowly, "is because she is an adren. Not because of her tribe. And you speak of numbers? Honor and strength? Those are different in every tribe. My own, we honor our family. Our friends. The Bone Gnawers too, find strength in numbers as Rat would have us understand. As for the Get of Fenris... I hope you do not judge the entire tribe by the actions of two alone. That would be foolish indeed."

Matt pauses a moment, "It only takes two to show there's something wrong under it all. But, I'm willing to give them a chance to prove me wrong. For gaia."

Yi's features go even more grim than before, as she turns back to the stones. "And it only takes one lost cub's pride to destroy what was built by many," she utters, more to herself but audible.

Matt looks to Yi, then says "Then I think it's time for us to part ways Yi-Rhya." he says in a decently cold voice, keeping his hands at his sides. "Goodbye." taking a step away and looking to leave.

Yi doesn't yet move to stop Matt until he's taken steps to leave. But as he does, she looks up from the stones and over in his direction. "If you go to the Storytelling moot, Matt," she calls after him, "perhaps you should ask about Malachi."

Matt pauses and looks at Yi, and says "It will be asked." Before he stalks off, disappearing into the forest and a lupus moments after he's left sight.

Yi watches as the cub slips off, her brow furrowed as she looks after him. In time, she too slips down to lupus after setting the sparrow's wing down upon one of the stones, and resumes her patrols.
