The Clearing Formerly Known As 'Bone Arches'
This clearing stands deep in the forest, hidden by tall trees, and feels strangely ...empty. Though it's a perfectly normal clearing, there's the haunting feeling that there should be something here, beyond the grasses and small shrubs that stand sheltered from the wind by the surrounding woods - but those are all that can be seen.
Winding through the underbrush, a number of trail-like impressions can be seen in the dirt. The most prominent of these leads southwest.

With the sun still high in the sky, the day finds the Gnawer ragabash, Yi, sitting amidst the quiet clearing. In truth she isn't easily spotted, reclining as she is beside a scrubby bush and tree on the edge of the clearing, but is heard. The fostern carefully pronounces some words to herself, sounding much like she's reading something. "It was a winter house, such as some field mice move to when food becomes too s-car-ce, scar-ce, and the living too hard in the woods and pa-, past, ur-es. Past. Pastures. Pastures! In the soft earth of a bean, potato, black-eyed pea and aspar-a-gus patch there is plenty of food left over for mice after the human crop has been... ga-thhh-er-ed. Gathered."
Having followed the Guardian's trail, Walks-Middle steps into the clearing where the bone arches once existed. Her ears perk forward as she catches the sound of the Gnawer's voice, and she makes her way closer to that location, chuffing softly to let the other know that she is there.
"Mrs. Frisby and her family were e-special-ly lucky, in the house itself. It was a s-light-ly, slightly, damage-d cee... cin-der, cinder block, the--" Yi's reading to herself pauses when a chuff alerts her to the wolf nearby, though her senses have to focus out. The ragabash slips a small leaf into her place on the book and she looks about, spotting the Gaian elder after a few minutes. "Oh, hello. Good afternoon," she greets the ahroun with a warmed smile.
Walks-Middle moves closer, sniffing at the book that the Gnawer holds before straightening again. Hello, she chuffs respectfully, her tail waving slightly at the sight of the smile. This one has been looking for you. You are well?
Yi holds on to _Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH_ and shows the title of it over. "It has mice and rats in it," she comments as her excuse for reading such an elementary looking piece. Her head angles to a side, though, curious is her expression towards the Gaian elder. "You were looking for me?"
Walks-Middle tilts her head as she examines the book, then backs up a step before shifting into her birth form. "I know of that story! I saw a movie based on it once. Secret of NIMH." She sits down on the ground, crossing her legs. "And yeah, actually. It's about my cubs."
Yi looks from the book to the elder, brows arching in surprise. "There is a movie?" she queries. But, she looks back down to the binding, looking at the mouse in a shawl sitting atop the crow's neck. "Ah, but... I must practice my English reading. And writing. I am not so good at it." Admitting so with a touch of sheepishness, the fostern shrugs. Then she gazes back to the Gaian elder. "Your cubs?"
"I'm not the best at it either," admits Stacey. "Since I didn't really finish much of school and all." She then nods, smirking. "Particularly Coriander, since she's the one who's most likely ready for this one. See, I've given them a few tasks, and it'd be great if you would be willing to help with one of them. Without letting her know I spoke to you."
Yi shrugs lightly, admitting, "I did not finish my school either. Or you could say, we are still in school, but learning different subjects." Setting the book aside for now, Yi folds her hands in her lap as she looks to the younger ahroun. "Coriander?" she echoes of the name, a finger scratching behind her ear as she tries to place it. "I don't think I've met her. What task is this?"
Stacey smiles. "She's a good cub. Theurge of my tribe. I've been sending her on tasks dealing with the different Auspices. She had to learn a story of the Septs history from a Galliard, a tale of Glory from an Ahroun, a re-telling of a judgment from a Philodox... Each geared toward her learning both what the Auspices are about and how they are unique. And now, her task to find a Ragabash," she grins, "and inquire about their roles as tricksters."
Yi's roaming finger comes back around to tap on her chin thoughtfully. "I see. A good way to learn, asking the sources," she approves with a double nod. And then she gains a foxish smile. "And you wish for her to learn about the auspice of the ragabash, from a ragabash. Me?"
Stacey's grin widen. "Yep, I'm trying out a method of primary source learning for this batch of cubs. I'll also be giving them tasks concerning the tribes, but Auspices first. And Yi-rhya, I would /love/ for her to learn about the Ragabash from you."
A counter-grin springs to Yi's face. "You sound as if you have some great expectation of my skill," remarks the no-moon. "Or you have seen some kind of example from me that you would like your cubs to know. But... I am not much of a trickster, Stacey."
Stacey chuckles. "Likely more of a trickster than /I/ am. But you're right, I do admire you, Yi-rhya, as a Garou and a Ragabash. You've been a part of this Sept for a long time, and even in this small task, I believe my cubs will learn something valuable from you."
"Mm. Still, my talents have always laid more on the grounds of scouting," Yi insists gently. "But, thank you for such praise. It is all I can hope to be able to teach any who come to me some lesson they may remember. So on that light," notes the ragabash with a glance to the book beside her. There's a consideration, and then she turns back to the ahroun. "What can you tell me of your cubs you wish taught?"
Stacey smiles and nods to Yi's words, accepting them, but apparently not swaying in her decision. "Coriander, named Tenderfoot, is a sweet girl. She is a fast learner, tries hard to fit into this world, but she is uncertain about her own place within it still. She was raised a pacifist, to the point that they did not even eat meat. She wants to be a good Garou, but worries about what battles she may face."
Yi nods slowly with the description given, smiling at the name. "Ah, she was at the moot. I remember. Her brows arch slightly in question to a word. "She does not eat meat?" she asks, though it's more curiosity than oddity.
Stacey nods, smiling. "Yes, she was. And again, yes. My tribemates were a bit concerned about that, but since we are as much humans as we are wolves, I've ruled that it is her choice whether she continues to not hunt or changes her ways."
Yi uncrosses her leg to stretch it, rubbing off a bit of pain and stiffness in it. Her own smile fades just a touch because of it, but she continues. "Maybe that is a good thing, maybe it is not. You could explain that it is the most natural and freshest meal around, a fresh rabbit or a young bird." The ragabash laughs lightly then. "Still, that is not what I am meant to teach her, right? A trickster's trick... it seems too little to just tell her a story of a trick once pulled."
Stacey smiles as she stands. "I trust your judgment, Yi-rhya, on what will be appropriate for this task." She pauses then before adding, "I ran into a visitor yesterday. A former Sept member. Brian Blade-At-Twilight, Athro Ahroun of the Fianna. It is possible he will be in the area for another week or so."
The ragabash stops rubbing at her leg as the ahroun stands, blinking up at her. Then she stares, and almost scrambles up to her feet. "Brian?!" Yi's face swings close. "What... what did he say? Where is he now?"
"You know him?" asks Stacey, her brows lifting. "He's visiting from California, and he asked about meeting with the Gatekeeper, which he may be doing now. Said he might remain to help with the cubs for a bit, as I mentioned we had a good deal of them around. He also mentioned having some business to take care of on the island, the one Andrea had taken care of?"
Yi brightens a great deal more. "Oh, I was only a new cliath when Brian was Sept Alpha here. By then he was already almost a legend. I have had the honor of fighting alongside him, but, this is amazing to hear he has come." There's a brief pause as Yi takes in a deep breath, containing that visible excitement. "The island, yes I remember it. My pack that I told about during the story moot, we were going to claim it as our territory until Bitter-Cup-rhya returned with Ouroboros." She furrows her brow then, wondering aloud, "I hope I may be able to meet him again. Perhaps he has news of the Western Eye sept, and others down south."
Stacey looks even more surprised and impressed. "He was Sept Alpha here?" She laughs slightly. "I ought to dig deeper into the past, so that next time I am not as taken off guard. I imagine he led this place well. Perhaps sometime you might tell me more about those days."
"He was," Yi affirms with a small nod, "And before he wasn't called Blade-At-Twilight." She can only just contain herself from launching into more of the past, but nods at the young elder. "If you see him again... learn from him. He is a great leader, and greater Garou." Letting out a breath, the fostern runs a hand through her hair, coming off such a rush. "I suppose I should seek out the Gatekeeper too, to let him know of our old friend."
Stacey smiles. "I will, Yi-rhya. Should I run into him again. I ought to go check in at the Farmhouse, too, make sure my cubs - or tribemates - aren't causing trouble. Thank you, Yi-rhya, for your help with the task."
