Farmhouse: Kitchen and Dining Room
Homey is the first word to come to mind when looking at the farmhouse's kitchen. Dark, wood-paneled wainscoting covers the walls to about waist height, dark beige wallpaper continuing to the ceiling. Twin refrigerators occupy the north wall, facing the large six-burner stove on the south. The kitchen counter runs the length of the eastern wall, broken only by the double-basin sink. Cabinets run above and below the counter and a twin-pane window is set in the wall above the sink. A small pantry is set into an alcove alongside the refrigerators, presumably holding the deep freezer as well as shelves of dry goods.
Some twelve feet above the floor, a large chandelier hangs from the ceiling, lighting the dining room and casting long shadows over the bar to the kitchen. A long table occupies the center of the dining room, three chairs setting along each side, and one on each end. On the west wall, a large window looks out on the trees alongside the western pasture. Set into the north wall is a large cabinet, its glass doors closed on shelves containing a full compliment of fine china and glassware as well as a few decorative nicknacks. On the east, a wide bar separates the dining room from the kitchen.
An opening in the southern wall allows passage to the front entryway of the house, while a sliding glass door in the kitchen opens to a clearing behind the house.

Hallway/Living Room  Back Door

Hunched over a counter with his jacket on a chair nearby, Brendan is setting out a nice array of food with a Boston Market bag nearby. Container after container is piled about neatly, and the man is currently spooning a good helping of potatoes and gravy onto a plate for himself.

It's past sunset and the night's dropped rather quickly when Yi materializes out of the darkness at the farmhouse's back glass door. The ragabash squints as she looks inside, spotting Brendan. Her hand hesitates at the handle, but eventually the Gnawer makes her way in with no attempt to conceal her entry. "Good evening," she greets him, eyes roving to the Boston Market bag before sweeping their gaze back up to him. "Brendan, yes? Your name?"

Brendan looks up when someone enters, looking somewhat alerted for a moment before he spots Yi. The man's shoulders slump back down and he sighs heavily, his tall body slouching forward. "Yes, yes I am. I didn't think after the last meeting you'd forget. I'm sorry for the way I acted at the time, I hope I didn't give you a bad impression."

Yi peers at the Fianna kin in an almost puzzled manner at his demeanor. "It is ... ok?" she answers, though her intonation is a fishing query. "I did not think there was anything to feel bad about. No, I should apologize myself, if I made you uncomfortable."

Brendan shakes his head at the woman and smiles warmly, bowing his head to her with a laugh. "I did not mind at all, it's always flattering when I get to flirt with a Garou. That one of Gaia's warriors would find little old me interesting is always a boost to my ego. Would you like to sit and eat something with me, uh... Yi, wasn't it?"

Yi shifts her weight on her feet as she regards the kin, bowing her head slightly when he does as if on reflex. She then looks at the food again as it is mentioned, taking in a long whiff. "I will," she accepts of the offer, though she circles towards the cupboards to grab herself a plate and the fridge for a drink. There's a pause as she reads what notes are left on the refrigerator door - a long one, seeing as she stares particularly long at a few of them and sounds things out softly to herself. Once things are read, Yi slips herself into a seat at the table. "You were right. My name is Yi. Song Yi-Ling," she tells him using the Mandarin pronunciation before switching back to her accented English. "Have you made plans with Helen, yet? About the wedding?" she inquires curiously.

Brendan walks over to sit at the table with his food, nudging out a chair across from him for the slight woman to sit in. The man starts to eat, chewing and swallowing his mouthful of food before he speaks again. "Ah, well Miss Ling, it would be nice to eat with you." Brendan looks up at her when she mentions the wedding, his happy expression instantly dropping away. The Kinsman looks down at his food, then murmurs quietly. "We... Split apart, a month ago. I did something rather stupid, and I won't lie or blame anyone else. It was entirely my fault."

"Please, call me Yi," the Gnawer fostern notes as she sits. At the drop of his happiness level, up rises the level of concern in her expression. "Oh, I'm sorry. What happened?" she can't resist asking. Curiosity drives the query, even though she sounds like she's pulling back on those reins.

"I got drunk." Brendan murmurs without looking up at the Garou, moving some food on his plate around with one of his utensils. "And from what I heard... A Fianna girl somewhat less drunk than I was dragged me off to satisfy an itch she had. Laora, if you've met her. I was told that I might want to keep it a secret, but I told Helen and asked her to forgive me. She hasn't called me back in a month, so I've... Let go." Brendan looks up at her and sets down his silverware, folding one hand over the other. "Go on, call me a stupid pig like most everyone else has. I deserve it."

Yi listens to the confession without too much change on her facial expression; there is a twitch of her brows up at the name of the Fianna, signifying her non-recognition, but it ticks up higher as she tilts her head. "Satisfy an itch? I am not sure I understand," remarks the Gnawer eventually, looking down to her own food as she ponders. "Helen left because someone scratched your back for you?" she asks, her tone doubting.

"An itch between her thighs." Brendan starts to explain to Yi, then he pauses and simply sighs. "She was horny, she dragged me back to her place and used me in a way that would make Stag proud of me. She is a large and tough woman, but very passionate." Brendan explains further, looking up to eye the Ragabash curiously. "Surely you've been at a bar before? Generally, when a man gets dragged off by a woman... "

Yi glances up again as Brendan begins to explain. It's clear when the understanding dawns, though, as Yi's expression changes completely. "... Oh..." she utters monosyllabically. Then her hand raises and she waves off the rest. "I have, and I know what you mean now." The ragabash furrows her brow next as she pushes thoughts aside, tapping her fork lightly on the end of the plate. "Did you love her?" she asks bluntly.

"Helen? Of course. She's a sweet and beautiful girl, and I wanted nothing more than to have children with her." The Kinsman smiles warmly again, then shakes his head at Yi. "Now Laora has given me a sort of... Order, if you will to remain open. No attachments or relationships that are 'declared' except for, ah... Casual things. Basically I can do what I please as long as I remain open to her to use, or else she'll raise a stink."

Yi shakes her head slowly, lifting her gaze again as she comments, "She is a brave woman to challenge a Black Fury for a mate. But I have been under Stag's eye before. I know the feeling." Pursing her lips into a thin line, Yi gets to finally eating the food she's taken. After some more time, she looks back over to the kin. "Is having children enough for you? Was it enough for her?"

"I can have children with any Garou that will spread their legs for me. That is the way that that it works, and I accept that. Gaia needs her soldiers and I provide them, or at least, try to. But... I'd rather have a mate, someone to have a life *and* children with, though that's limited to the lower spectrum of the Garou. The Theurges, the Ragabashes." Brendan lifts his hand and sighs wistfully, gesturing at nothing. "But with Laora in town, I can not do something like that just yet. The only thing I can do for now with any Garou is pull them aside, and make them forget about how bad things are for a few hours."

Yi turns her gaze to look directly at the kin now, evaluating him in her scrutiny. "Why do you say such things?" Her fork is set down, and an almost pained look crosses her face as she regards him. "You talk like you have no life now. But that is not true, is it?"

"Oh, I have a life. I have a Garou that may want to have a child by me, but not mate me, and another who may want to be my wife someday... But I still miss Helen. And I wish that I could do more for you guys, besides giving you money, and pulling you into my bed." Brendan bows his head to her, then runs a hand through his short red hair. Looking at her with a somewhat pensive expression, he states simply enough. "I just get a little sad sometimes, when I think about how she's gone now."

Yi picks up her fork again, stabbing into the piece of chicken on her plate. "You have done more already," notes the Gnawer as she looks down to the piece of meat. "You remind me what it is like to want more. More for myself." She glances up afterwards, blinking slowly. "What date is it?"

Brendan reaches across the table with one of his hands and touches the woman's forehead, using his fingers to brush some of the woman's hair from her face. "You should always want more, even if sometimes reaching for it will leave you with less." Brendan sets his hand down on the table again, chuckling under his breath. "There is a difference between greed, and want."

Yi goes very still as he reaches towards her, eating utensil pausing on its way up from the plate. Her eyes track until they can't follow, and then look back to Brendan and blink. "So there is. And there is difference between want and need," she comments once her hand starts moving again. After a small swallow of food, she too sighs and glances away from him.

Brendan rises up from his seat with some degree of slowness, then walks over to the Ragabash and pulls out a chair beside her. The man sits down beside her, knee to knee and asks. "I am a little deep in my own troubles, but I am not so deep that I can't help a Garou with some of her's." Brendan lifts his hand and gently touches Yi's shoulder, squeezing it affectionately. "Speak, and I'll listen Yi."

Yi looks back to her shoulder at the contact, and up to the kin. The glance is brief, and quickly averted. "It is nothing," she murmurs. "I was reminded of another who came here once, but our contact was so brief. Had I followed him..." And she trails there, head shaking afterwards. "And it is a foolish thought. He was kin of the Silver Fangs, would you believe? A Bone Gnawer and Silver Fang kin?"

"I have seen many strange romances in my time, and I have had children by Furies, Get, and a Gnawer among others. Nothing strikes me as strange. When two people want one another, things such as Tribes at forgotten." Brendan smiles at the woman, keeping his voice low and his eyes on her face. Though he doesn't look her in the eyes, he looks at her cheeks to lend the impression without the risk of irritating the beast within. "How long ago was that, that you felt love for that man?"

Yi presses her lips together again, feeling those eyes on her and not yet matching gaze. "Too long," she answers in time, rolling her opposing shoulder in a half-shrug, attempting to dismiss. "Years." But she suddenly looks up, eyes widening. "But that isn't to say I haven't-- I mean-- never mind."

"Had sex?" Brendan guesses, attempting to fill in the blanks for the poor bewildered Ragabash. "I feel sorry for you, if you have not had someone to be close with in *so* long. That is a shame, and no one should be as lonely as that." Brendan lifts his hand and brushes it through her hair again, though this time the gesture is somewhat more significant. Rather than a quick pass, the Kinsman runs it through right to the back of her skull, avoiding any knots less he rip one out on the full moon. "What is it that you think that you want? From a man, I mean. Love? Children? A family?"

Yi starts to frown, but the brush of his hand through her hair pauses that expression before it finishes. "I wasn't meaning that. I /have/ been with other men," she covers, "but as you say, there is more. What that is... I..." She reaches up with her own hand to take ahold of the one behind her head and bring it around to the front again. "I just have not thought about it for some time. The child was lost a long time ago as well - my fault for going into battle."

"Sometimes, Gaia demands tough decisions be made. It was not your fault, it was the fault of whatever called you to battle." Brendan assures her, squeezing the Ragabash's shoulder. "Nothing more than human men you couldn't really see more than once or twice before they were gone? Ah... Well. And you say I've set you down the path of thinking about these things again?"

Yi takes in a slow breath, letting it go in an equally slow, if laborous exhale. "These are not things one like me has in her future, Brendan. One with my... mm... background?" She fishes for the word. "You believe in destiny?"

Brendan lifts his hand up and touches the side of her face, turning it to have her look up at him as he rubs at her cheek with his thumb. "You can have it, if you want for it. I believe in fate and destiny, but if you believe you *know* your own, it might become a self fulfilling prophecy Yi."

"And what is your destiny?" Yi asks softly, looking over at the kin. "Sweet words only fill empty hearts for a short time." Her gaze lowers back to the relatively untouched plate of food before her. Before he answers, too, she adds another bitter statement. "And I have had my fill of those lies for quite some time."

"I do not know what my destiny is. That is for Gaia to show me, but it is my hope that it is with someone I love and someone that wants a child." Brendan smiles softly, continuing to rub at the Ragabash's cheek softly. "Someone that wanted a destiny with me would have to claim me, and fight Laora for that right. But even after I told you that I was being... Used by her, and taken by another, I... Ended things badly with Helen, you still are interested in a man like me?"

Yi's eyes widen again at the kinsman, and her expression fills with a quizzically surprised look as she finishes processing. "Brendan," the ragabash utters slowly, "you are a handsome and smart man. But I am not about to fight someone I have not seen or heard of, not for a single night's company and pleasure." Reaching up to grasp his hand, she smiles gently at him. "As for me... you could do better."

Brendan smiles at the girl and closes his eyes for a moment, then takes her hand and gives it a firm squeeze. The large Kinsman hunches over the tiny Ragabash and looks her in the eyes, murmuring to her quietly. "I was talking more serious than that, but if it is just for company and pleasure, you don't have to fight anyone. I have free reign to lay with ladies of any Tribe that I please, just not to be claimed, Yi."

Being loomed over that way, Yi appears a bit smaller in the 'shadow' still. "As you please," she echoes thoughtfully, but then her expression changes to something more rueful. "I don't know, Brendan. Someone who is so free does not sound like he is ready to do any settling." Gradually she stands from her seat, slipping her hand from his grasp.

"I do want to settle, with whomever proves themselves that they will be a stable mate that will have my children." Brendan murmurs, rising with the girl and standing right in front of her. "If you are interested in something like that... Then maybe someday, the two of us will be somewhere. And if not, then maybe- " Brendan lifts his hand and smoothes it through her hair again, leaning in to look the woman in the eyes. "I can remind you of that want again, if only for a night or two. None of Gaia's warriors should feel an empty heart, for it'll fill with so many terrible things."

Yi cranes her head back, matching gaze for gaze. "If only it were so easy," she replies quietly. "But it is not." Wetting her lips, Yi averts her gaze again and this time steps back, turning away to take that long breath in and out. This time, her own hand runs through her hair at a quick run. Her head shakes as she utters something to herself in her native tongue - whatever it is, the tone of it is as obvious as plain English, telling of her attempt to get over herself.

"It is that easy. If you want me, all you have to do is tell me, and I will do my best to please you." Brendan murmurs, reaching out to touch her shoulder with a somewhat light grasp. "You Garou, your brave warriors of Gaia give so much for the Earth, for your Kin and every human on this Earth. It would be an honor for a humble servant of the mother like me to take care of *you* for a little while, as you take care of everything else."

Yi's shoulder tightens beneath that touch, the fostern not daring to turn around. "Thank you," she replies quietly, tone contemplative but distant, "for your kind words. And I will keep them in mind." She glances back over her shoulder at him briefly, and then slips away back towards the screen door by a few more steps. The physical movement is stiff with reluctance, forced. "I... must return to my patrol now," she resolutely utters. "A Guardian's work is never really done." Another glance is sent back at the kin, and a wan smile given.

"Even the brave must rest eventually. If you decide you would like to rest with me, or just talk to someone that you know won't betray your secrets, feel free to come and talk to me." The Kinsman brushes his hand through his hair, then smirks just a little. "Of course, if you also decide that you would like me to teach you more about removing fancy underwear as well, I will show you that I'm just as hung as Father Stag." Brendan winks at the Ragabash, adding his cell phone number quickly before he tells her with sincerity. "Take care of yourself, miss Ling."

Yi stops at the door, looking at her muted reflection there along with the kin's behind her. The flush that comes to her cheeks at his words can be seen as she turns around quickly. Then she walks towards the kin at a fast clip, only to swerve to a side and reach for the drink and the chicken she'd left on the plate. A quick bite is taken of the drumstick right in front of him, and she gives him a rather crooked smile. A skip of a beat after, she turns again and heads back for the glass door, this time not stopping on her exit.

Brendan takes a step towards the Ragabash when she starts to walk towards him, with his hands at level with her hips before she slides past. When he sees her turn and take a bite of the meat in front of him, the Kinsman smirks and makes eye contact again, murmuring a quiet something before he adds. "I'll be here for another half hour, if you change your mind Yi. You might be a woman, but I could make you moan like a girl." Brendan promises with a laugh, turning to walk off towards the living room as she heads out the door.

[And for the next half hour and on through the rest of the night, Brendan gets to think about things... Alone!]
