Logfile from GarouMUSH.
[This takes place prior to the beginning of Fianna cub Rites of Passage.]
Grotto(#2863RJ)
The woods part suddenly, here, amidst the quiet roar of falling water. A wide stream spills over the edge of a rocky face that is the western edge of a hill some thirty feet high. The stones are worn smooth with the passing of time, and are slick with moisture and soft mosses, but a climb up the drier rocks would not be impossible, and there is a sense of space behind the falls.
A wide pool has been carved into the earth by the rushing waters, and the tall trees have grown out around it, sheltering the grotto in a pleasantly-cool shade. Rocks, hewn from the cliff face and shouldered along the path of the stream, form a rough ring around the edge of the pool and guide the flow of water further westwards, again deeper into the woods. All manner of animal tracks are visible in the sandier areas of shore; the trees crouch close against the edge of the stream again as it passes further west, muting the dull thunder of the falls.
Faint trails, between the trees, lead off in all directions, while a determined climb eastwards would crest the rock face.

Forest Up the Cliff
A sharp trio of yips and a howl announces Yi Runs-the-Gauntlet at the edges of the Fianna territory. The Gnawer, as she waits for an answer, trails up and back into her breed form. There she adjusts a black satchel at her side and takes in a deep breath of the wilderness air.
The calm night carries almost no sound on it, so Mind-Breaker's answering howl can be heard clearly over the chirping of crickets. Enter the land of the Fianna and be welcome, Runs-The-Gauntlet!
Yi jogs in after she hears the howl, coming into the borders of the grotto and being careful where she actually sets her feet. It's as if she doesn't want to make too much of an impression on the area, even though her shoes are undoubtedly going to leave behind the scent of their rubber synthesized soles. She approaches the area where the pool would be, eyes scanning for signs of the Fianna who'd answered her. "Hello? Cole? Jason?"
"Hey! Up here!" Jason is sitting on a rocky outcropping halfway up the cliff in homid, feet swinging and grinning. "Was just meditating for a bit, speaking with the spirits and all. Well...speaking /to/ them. They haven't really spoken back at all yet...anyways, what's up?"
Yi looks up at the Fianna ragabash at the call. "Oh, it's you," she calls back up. "You have time? I brought some things for the Rite of Passage rituals." She indicates her bag down by her side.
Even at this distance, it's easy to see Jason's eyes light up at the mention. "Yeah, totally. Hold on..." Slipping off the outcropping, the Fianna slides down the side of the cliff-face , shifting up to Glabro as he falls. The ragabash kicks off the sides of the cliff as he nears the bottom, hitting the ground at a jog and slowing as he snaps down to homid, grinning broadly at Yi. "Neat! Lay it on me."
Yi waits off to a side as he jumps down, watching and not even wincing as he shifts and comes over. "You know, you can't shift in the city like that," comes her statement in thoughtfulness. That is her only note however, since she's then digging into the satchel and extracting four wooden bowls to hand over to him to look at. But not to take. "I will use those for the rite. Two I need to fill with water from the Grotto, as it is where your tribe's lands are claimed, and the others I will use to mix the ritual paint. Do you know which cubs are to be offered to the test?"
"I know, sucks huh? Well, there are always dark alleys and our blur..." Jason brushes his knees off, giving the Gnawer a half-joking smile. He takes the bowls thoughtfully, giving the first a solid once-over and glances at the others, stacking them up in his hand before offering back to her. "Devlin and Gareth. I assume the Rite will be done here, in the Grotto?"
"Rely on the Gifts and you'll get sloppy when you don't have them," chides the fostern ragabash. The wooden bowls are quite nicely carved, though they remain untreated with anything to keep them from rot or stain. She takes them back, placing them back into the satchel. "Yes, this is perhaps the best place to bring them when it comes time. I will need to ask you to help bring them. And... I believe they are at their best awareness when they are not told. But, if you wish to tell them, that can be done to prepare them." She looks appraisingly over the other ragabash. "You... seem nervous."
Jason mmmms at Yi's advice, seeming to agree with her comment. When the bowls get taken away, hands go in his pockets and the boy hunches up against the cold. The Fianna looks thoughtful, eyes turning towards the pool for inspiration. "I think...I'll make that call when I'm bringing them over. Heh, yeah a bit," he admits with a crooked smile to Yi, "I had all of these cubs to take care of for the longest time, and then, all of a sudden, they're all gonna be cliaths? You realize that this'll double our ranks as Fianna here at Hidden Walk? When--/if/ they succeed in their Rite." At this last note, the smile falters a little.
"Any good Bone Gnawer knows the strength of numbers," Yi says with a nod. "And perhaps I can help put your energies to good use. I still have some items that I need to search out before the ritual's preparation is complete. Would you care to help?" She tilts her head in the asking.
That catches Jason's interest like a flypaper catches flies, and his head cocks at the Gnawer, a grin fills his face from bottom to top. "I'd be enthralled," he says with fervor, clapping his hands together, "What do ya need?"
"Well," Yi answers him as she sees that grin return, "first a couple of good potato sacks. And some rope. Could never go wrong with some rope." The amusement in her own features gains a rather fox-like slant, but is quick to temper itself down. "Also some herbs and clay for the paint mixture. Also..." She waves for him to come with her, and continues listing off a number of ingredients. Maybe she's only just brought the bowls.
"Potato sacks? Rope?" Jason asks, glancing towards the deceptively deep pond before turning back to Yi with a sly grin. "Do you want me to get you some rocks to put in the sacks as well? You know, there /are/ better ways to get rid of problem cubs around here..." He follows after her though, repeating the list occasionally, trying to commit it all to memory.
